Celebrated Musician Lokesh Anand Receives Ustad Bismillah Khan Award

New Delhi: A memorial concert titled “Yade-Bismillah” was held on the 17th death anniversary of the legendary Shehnai maestro Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan. This concert was organised at Sanskaar Bharti auditorium in Mandi House, New Delhi by Sanskaar Bharti and India Heritage Art and Culture Trust. This event featured magnificent performances by Padma Shri Dr. Shoma Ghosh and santoor maestro Dr. Bipul Ray. The prime attraction of the evening was the conferral of the prestigious Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan Award upon renowned Shehnai artist Lokesh Anand. Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale graced this occasion by presenting the award to Anand in recognition of his outstanding contribution to music, especially his mastery of the Shehnai.

The event was attended by many respectable and prominent guests, including former Home Minister of Maharashtra Kripa Shankar, former MP from Mathura Dr. Raja Manvendra Singh, India Heritage Art and Culture Trust founder Shool Pani Singh, National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma, and Prasar Bharati Board Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal.

Anand’s musical journey began at the age of 8 under the guidance of his father, Shri Kalicharan, and later, Pandit Anand Lal and Daya Shankar. His association with Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj polished his skills, allowing him to develop a unique style that blends traditional and vocal nuances. Throughout his marvellous career, Lokesh Anand has attracted global audiences by performing at various esteemed events such as the Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan, Tansen Music Festival, Hariballah Music Festival, Saptak Music Festival, and Sankat Mochan Music Festival. Moreover, he has also represented India on international platforms, including the G20 Summit in New Delhi and the “Zurnazen Festival” in Turkey, where he was the first Indian artist to represent Shehnai. Apart from this, Anand performed at the Ram Lala Pran Pratishtha Samaroh in Ayodhya and received a nomination for the “GIMA” Award for his track “Swan-Lake Op20 Lokesh Anand”. His all of these achievements have helped him in solidifying his position as a leading Shehnai artist around the world.

The “Yade-Bismillah” tribute concert was a very appropriate celebration of Ustad Bismillah Khan’s legacy, and Lokesh Anand’s award is a well-deserved recognition of his endeavour to preserve and promote India’s rich musical heritage. To promote Indian musical heritage Anand is committed to spread the art of Shehnai globally, that’s why he is set to tour internationally, with concerts scheduled in Turkey and the USA in September and October 2024.

The three expos are the 8th edition of the Hyderabad International Machine Tool & Engineering Expo (HIMTEX). It will be run concurrently with the India Process Expo & Conference (IPEC) and the Eco Sustain Expo from August 16th to 18th, 2024. These events provide a platform for showcasing the latest innovations and developments in the manufacturing sector, offering opportunities for networking, collaboration, and growth.

Success of CMAI FAB Show 2024 Beckons a Bright Future for India’s Textile & Apparel Industry

Mumbai, April 19, 2024: The Fabrics, Accessories & Beyond Show 2024 (FAB Show 2024), hosted by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), wrapped up its 4th edition on a successful note consequently boosting Textile industry sentiments with exceedingly high business prospects. The three-day event, which took place from April 15 to April 17 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, outperformed industry expectations with an estimated business generation of more than 2,100 crores.

The trade show successfully attracted 10,200 trade visitors from 320+ cities across India which included over 1,500 elite platinum buyers. Moreover, overseas buyers from 16 countries mainly Bangladesh, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Russia, Hong Kong, USA, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Nepal also visited the show. The presence of sourcing heads from renowned brands and retail majors like Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail, Bestseller, Gokaldas Exports, Kora, Mufti, Pepe Jeans, Reliance Brands, Shoppers Stop, Soch, Stori, Spykar, Westside and many others further boosted industry confidence thus reflecting the event’s importance as a prime sourcing platform.

This year’s FAB Show was a focal point for industry Innovation and Sustainability, showcased by over 200 domestic exhibitors, including major names like Grasim, Arvind, Siyaram’s, Gokul Print, Jindal, Banswara Syntex, Ruby Mills, Bhagwan Enterprise apart from many MSME’s. Noteworthy participants from diverse sectors such as fabric suppliers, accessories manufacturers, and software developers demonstrated their latest offerings and services to a discerning audience.

“FAB Show 2024 has set a new benchmark for success in the textile & apparel industry, reflecting our commitment to driving growth and sustainability,” said Naveen Sainani, Chairman FAB Show, CMAI. The Sustainability zone was a major attraction at the fair which showcased fabrics crafted from waste, recyclable materials and educated about benefits of waste water management promoting innovation & circularity which is a cornerstone of CMAI’s holistic strategy to engage, educate, and inspire the garment industry. He further elaborated “Our environment is changing and if the world can’t avoid deforestation, we need to invest in reforestation. On behalf of the 2876 visitors who pledged to voluntarily become earth warriors, CMAI will be planting 2876 tree saplings to create a healthier environment, fight climate change, and protect biodiversity”.

The Surat Pavilion organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SGCCI) showcased over 40 leading fabric manufacturers for the fourth consecutive edition of FAB. One of the key reasons for the popularity of the Surat pavilion amongst the visitors is their ability to present the latest trends and understand the needs of the garment industry. Speaking about the current business landscape, Siddharth Dhawan, Director, Gokul Tex Print – a leading fabric manufacturer from Surat, expressed, “We have seen a steady growth over the last year, which slowed down in the last few months due to the MSME payment amendment that came in. This year, we are confident that starting June till December, signs of growth will become evident as we deliver the merchandise to manufacturers, which they will provide in the market.” Another participant, Ritesh Patel, Director, Surbhi Textile Mills from Surat said “We received an extraordinary response for all of our products and the presence of buyers from all across the country gave us a great exposure. We are looking forward to participate in the next CMAI show”.

Speaking about their business outlook, Murugan Thenkondar, President – Marketing & Global Head – Business Development, Aditya Birla (Cellulosic Fibres) stated “The export market is facing a lot of turbulence currently and our domestic market has been growing steadily which is the reason we are exhibiting here. CMAI has been highly successful in presenting the textile value chain to participate mainly in cloth manufacturing brands, yarns, weavers, knitters, spinners and fibres thus offering a one-stop-destination to meet sourcing requirements. Distinguishing from other fairs, FAB is an excellent annual platform for the domestic customers and we are seeing a lot of positive energy at the show”.

It is heartening to see that consumers are getting more environment-conscious by the day and are preferring eco-friendly fabrics such as ours. Our main markets have been Punjab, Haryana and Delhi; however, we have started receiving increased demand through our distributors from Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Indore too.”

A lucky draw contest was also held on all the three days of the show wherein Rupees 10 lacs worth of scooters, gift cards and holiday vouchers of leading brands were handed out to visitors and exhibitors.

First Regional Workshop on ‘The Role of Vaccine Demand’

First regional workshop on “The Role of Demand for Vaccines” was conducted by IIHMR University, Jaipur recently. The workshop was organized as the partial fulfilment of the ongoing online courses on Vaccine Economics for COVID-19 jointly conducted by John Hopkins University School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA and IIHMR University, Jaipur during October 17 to October 13, 2020. 259 participants from around the globe registered for this online course, out of which 41 were from India.

The workshop was attended by 23 participants from eminent health and allied organizations including Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, State Ministry, WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, Tata Trust, Clinton Health Access Initiative and IIT Kharagpur. The workshop was chaired by Dr. P. R. Sodani, President, IIHMR University Jaipur. The moderator was Dr. Sunil Rajpal, Assistant Professor, IIHMR University, Jaipur.

The focus of the workshop was to discuss the intricacies pertaining to the factors determining a demand for vaccines, particularly in the Indian context. With the outbreak of COVID-19, identifying the patterns of demand for vaccines is critical to effectively strategize and ensure larger coverage, and benefits across the heterogeneous landscape of the country. The participants from diverse professional background provided their valuable inputs regarding how cost and expected benefits of vaccines, government interventions towards communication and media can play a pivotal role in escalating vaccine demand.

Dr. Pankaj Somani from National Program Officer UNDP stated “Increasing and maintaining vaccination uptake is vital for vaccines to achieve their success. Addressing low vaccination requires an adequate understanding of the determinants of the problem, tailored evidence-based strategies to improve uptake, and monitoring and evaluation to determine the impact and sustainability of the interventions”. Further, Dr. Sunil Rajpal pressed on the contextual issues related to the demand of vaccine economics in India.

“Externalities and the higher extent of government interventions make the vaccine economics a distinct domain which assumes further policy salience and an exclusive focus especially in the current times of pandemic,” said Dr. Sunil Rajpal, Assistant professor, IIHMR University, Jaipur. At the end of the session, Dr. P R Sodani in detail elaborated on the several multifaceted issues of vaccine economics in India such as Types of externalities, Contagion levels of disease, Individual and Community level behaviour, Cultural beliefs, and Socioeconomic backgrounds.

“With the vast and diverse geography of India along with second highest population base, a comprehensive understanding on demand patterns for the vaccine is crucial for effective resource allocation and equitable distribution,” said Dr. P R Sodani, President, IIHMR University, Jaipur.

The IIHMR University, Jaipur has conducted five such capacity-building workshops in India during 2017-2019 benefitting 85 programme managers and policymakers from Bangladesh, Ghana, India Malaysia, Myanmar, Sierra Leone and Sri Lanka.

Arman Singhal, a 21-year-old, of final year BTech student in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), will spend his final semester at the University of Florida and if he has a satisfactory performance in this program and GRE (Graduate Record Examination) score, he will be directly admitted in their prestigious MS program as well.

Pursuing his bachelor’s in computer science, Arman is fluent in multiple programming languages, including Java, Python, R, and some variants of SQL.
