JK Lakshmipat University alumnus receives Indian Achievers Award 2020-21; creates new milestone

Jaipur: Jaipur-based Mr. Sparsh Agrawal, a JK Lakshmipat University’s (JKLU) alumnus, has received the prestigious Indian Achievers Award 2020-21 by Indian Achievers’ Forum for his outstanding professional achievements and contribution to the nation building in the category of “Young Entrepreneur”. Sparsh graduated in Engineering in 2016 from JKLU’ s notable and multi-disciplinary B. Tech and is now serving as a Managing Director at Aurum Resorts, Goa.

Indian Achievers’ Forum is the platform that engages in developing and sharing ideas, opinions and knowledge on the key issues. The forum places emphasis on the beneficiary participation and creates awareness in all sectors and move towards developing stronger and more collaborative partnership.

On being conferred with this honor, Dr.RL Raina, Vice-Chancellor, JKLU said, “On behalf of all the members of the JKLU family, I wish him heartiest congratulations on this unparalleled, unmatched, and well deserved recognition. We are proud of the alumni for the difference they are making to the world around them. The software engineer-turned-entrepreneur always had a pool of fresh ideas. When he was in JKLU, he started his first startup PickmyBook, which aimed to provide used books to students on a daily or monthly basis. But he had to shut it due for some reasons. In his sixth semester, he worked on an idea KraftnKala, which was creating household decors by the use of waste.

He eventually stuck with the idea of starting his own hotel line during his vacation to Goa after quitting his lucrative job in Gurugram. He started off his hotel venture by leasing out a mall boutique resort. And, within a year he was having 90 rooms inventory (or four hotels) in north Goa under his company name Apeksha Hotels LLP. Managing these properties for three years gave him the confidence to build a resort of own and started his resort by the name Aurum Resorts in Dec 2019.

TechnoStruct Academy Signs MoU with JC Bose University

TechnoStruct Academy, an educational enterprise of renowned US Engineering and Technology BIM Firm – TechnoStruct, LLC, headquartered in California USA, has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with J.C. Bose University of Science & Technology, YMCA Faridabad. The MoU was signed between Mr. Arun Kochar, North India Head, Registrar Dr. Sunil Kumar Garg, TechnoStruct Academy and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar. JC Bose University in the presence of Chairperson of Civil Engineering Prof. M.L. Aggarwal, Director, Industry Relations Dr. Rashmi Popli, JC Bose University and Associate Professor Ms Divyashree Yadav, TechnoStruct Academy

This MoU is to provide training and hands-on experience to the students on Building Information Modeling (BIM) Technology which is one of the most recent developments in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industry. The MoU intends to offer ‘TechnoStruct Training and Development Programme’ to the students of the university which include free internship, hands-on exposure to international projects and placement assistance for three years.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Arun Kochar, North India Head of TechnoStruct said that there is quite a dearth in the Indian construction industry that TechnoStruct Academy is trying to fulfil by providing international standard BIM Management courses. The Indian construction industry is on rise after the pandemic hit. Real estate sector in India is expected to reach a market size of US $1 trillion by 2030 and to contribute 13 percent to the country’s GDP by 2025. Thus, BIM Technology would help students to gain opportunities by acquiring job oriented skills, he added.

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an emerging technology in the construction industry which helps to digitally construct an accurate virtual model of a building. This model can be used for planning, design, construction, and operation of the facility and helps architects, engineers, and constructors visualize what is to be built in a simulated environment to identify any potential design, construction, or operational issues. Thus, the collaboration would help the students gain practical knowledge on cutting-edge technology in the construction industry.

Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor , J.C. Bose University said, “The Construction Industry has undergone revolutionising changes in the last decade by embracing technological advancements. New-age construction methods have become highly efficient to ensure faster delivery time and cost-effectiveness”. The Vice-Chancellor hoped that the collaboration would help in addressing the need of the construction industry to have skilled people.

World University of Design presented Artist Stephanie Le Beller Arpels with ‘2021 Critics’ Choice Award’

New Delhi: World University of Design has carved its own unique niche and is known to promote excellence in design, visual arts and performing arts amongst others. The institute seized the opportunity to honor French Artist Stephanie Le Beller Arpels with ‘2021 Critics’ Choice Award’ on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 67A, Friends Colony West, New Delhi.

World University of Design has instituted “Critics Choice Awards” in the field of Visual Arts to encourage and empower the diverse range of artists in the country. It looks at honoring talent showcasing the rich culture of art across India, across different languages, regions, cultures styles and themes. The Critics Choice Visual Art Awards aims to provide an opportunity for recognition for emerging artists. The award carries a specially designed Trophy and a certificate.

On the occasion proud Dr. Sanjay Gupta (Vice Chancellor, World University of Design) said. “Ms Stephanie Le Beller Arpels is a remarkable French artist who has through her works depicted the varied characters of one of nature’s most simple yet complex creations – the woman. I am honored to present the award to such a deserving and extraordinary self-taught artist; I am sure this will set a great example to talented young minds who know they have the potential but just need a slight push.”

The institute yearns to recognize great talent and nurture it; it believes in supporting budding minds and channelizes them in the right and rewarding direction. Critics’ Choice Award is the brainchild of Dr. Sanjay Gupta – Vice Chancellor, WUD and is one of the many ways of encouraging and promoting extraordinary artworks that substantiate the bigger purpose of art.

Union Budget 2021-22 is the most anticipated event that every sector has its eyes on. While the pandemic staggered the economic growth of the country in the year 2020, it taught lessons in its own unique way – the biggest take-home being the need to be self-reliant. To achieve self-reliance the upcoming budget needs to invest more in make-in-India as also Design-in-India besides ensuring that both gets supported by a renewed emphasis on education, vocational training and infrastructures of universities.

The past year has highlighted the value of digitization and remote work environment. Schools and colleges have been no exception. It thus makes it evident that there will be high expectations from the government to provide a strengthened internet groundwork and even tougher data protection as more and more educational institutes will look at the medium to reach out to students, to teach and to help students get past their curriculum; thereby requiring students’ information to be critically guarded.

At the same time, as a Design-oriented institution, World University of Design hopes to see improved grants from the government in the field of education especially design education. Design assists innovation – the most powerful engine of economic growth, the future of a new-age India. The notion of “Atmanirbharta” or self-reliance would totally lie on the shoulders of the youth who would need to be equipped with not just better educational 4.0 but also with design thinking to enable innovation across diversified sectors & products. Design is an important as well as much sought out aspect in the current scenario owing to the shifting consumer trends from mere functionality to aesthetics and user-friendliness of products. It is natural at the moment to expect more measures to be taken in the upcoming fiscal in the domains of innovation, research, and technology – all of them benefit the basic infrastructure of an autonomous nation not depending upon imports from vigorously growing manufacturing giants like China and smaller ones like Vietnam, Myanmar, etc.

At WUD we also believe that whilst causing a major alteration in way of life in 2020 the pandemic brought the focus squarely on digitization in a game changing way. Businesses transformed, moved to e-platforms, and in so doing changed consumer behavior altogether. In the post-pandemic era, many businesses are expected to thrive on virtual platforms making returns on investment much larger, customers will continue receiving merchandise on their doorstep making their lives convenient while buying the best in quality and variety from a centralized global market. This said the situation would need a dramatically good number of creative thinkers working on online apps compatible with various OS and robust customer service and logistics systems to provide top-class services – leading to a flux in the need of D-School graduates. The era, if well tapped could be seen as an opportunity to take India a notch above other developing nations, by making use of fresh innovative minds to invent something revolutionary; next by generating employment for the executing team members, marketing team ending into a long and comprehensive chain supplying to the end consumer.

As a University that is home to over 700 students and 40 resident faculty members, World University of Design seeks information in the union budget announcement about a safe, well networked and efficient vaccination programme for students. It is a necessity to provide the Covid19 vaccine to pupils across the country so that physical classes could be restored. While distant learning has been a great way of teaching all along the past one year and as an institute, WUD never ceased its proceedings in teaching its students, it is mandatory for students of a Design Institute to practically be present, learn while doing, from each other, and be exposed to new ideas and techniques.

We are certain that the Narendra Modi government will do justice to its own motto and strengthen the connection between its ideals and the strengthening of the nation via its students.

Leaders should act fast in times of crisis, says Dr. Brian Mcgarrie, University of Birmingham

Office of International Affairs, Amity University Gurugram organized a virtual webinar on “Leading & Managing Through Crisis: The Case of COVID-19” under the banner of “The International Expert Talk series”. The Session was delivered by Dr. Brian McGarrie, Director- Executive MBA Programs, Birmingham University, UK. Following the vision of our Hon’ble chancellor Dr. Aseem Chauhan on augmenting internationalization, AUG has an active interface with accomplished academicians across the world regularly.

Dr. Brian mentioned different types of crisis and also about various stages of a crisis which the organizations could face in their functioning. He gave some very lucid examples to explain some of the crisis that has affected the world before COVID 19. In the Indian context, he highlighted some of the disasters such as the Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004 and also the Bhopal tragedy that occurred in 1984. He emphasized that in such a scenario, the government must address challenges on three fronts – How do we address the health crises? , How do we address the economic crisis? And, how do we keep the business of the government operating? He suggested that the government should respond fast to recover and thrive from such crisis.

He raised a very important issue as to what does good leadership looks like during a crisis. The salient features that emerged from his discussion are- acting with urgency, communicating with transparency, responding productively to missteps, and engaging in constant updating. He further brought out a very relevant point where he emphasized that it is wrong to think that the work of the leader is to set a course and stick to it. He opined that leaders must constantly update their understanding of prior probabilities deliberately using strategies to elicit new information and learn rapidly as events unfold and new information comes to light.

Dr. Brian is the Executive Director at Birmingham University, UK. He teaches Crisis Management and Organizational Reliability and Resilience. Brian has recently taught in Singapore, Malaysia, India, Jordan, and Zambia and worked with Airbus on their World Class Leaders Programme and taught a Risk and Crisis Management Executive Programme for Singapore Social Services.

Prof. (Dr.) PB Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University Gurugram in his special address highlighted resilience that India is demonstrating in the handing of Covid 19. Leaders must act with urgency and they must acknowledge the crisis. Often delay in crisis creates unmanageable situations. Leaders must also act a tremendous amount of robustness on the policies and their execution.

The discussion was hosted and moderated by Vice-President- RBEF and Director- International Affairs, Prof. (Dr.) Gunjan M Sanjeev. While delivering her speech, she talked about the necessity of new leadership models to be adopted to lead through the crisis and managing organizations.

Several senior officials actively participated in the discussion -Dean-Students Welfare, Maj, Gen. GS Bal (Retd), Director-HR, Rear Admiral KK Pandey (Retd), Director-Admission and HoD-ABS, Prof. (Dr) Vikas Madhukar, Director-AIBAS, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Nair and Deputy Director- ASH, Prof. Arunagshu Bhattacharya. The session emerged as a great platform where all participants came forward enthusiastically to express their thoughts with the esteemed speaker.

This virtual event was coordinated by Ms. Shaivy Sharma, Office of International Affairs. The session was attended by over a hundred participants and was appreciated by the audience from both India and as well as overseas.

On the occasion of Independence Day, Prof. V. S. Rao, Vice-Chancellor hoisted the national flag and addressed the employees and students. During his address, Prof V. S. Rao remembered all the freedom fighters and emphasized on how non-violence freedom struggle set an example for the entire world to imbibe. Dr. D. Gunasekaran, Registrar, Wg Cmdr Venkataachalam Sekkappan, Director-CLM, Ms. Revathi Balakrishnan, Assistant Director-Student Affairs and others participated in the ceremony.

Ph.D. students of SRM AP, D. Lenin babu and Yarramsetti Saisrinu who nobly served the needy during the pandemic were praised by Prof. V. S. Rao and Dr. D. Gunasekaran. During the lockdown, the two students distributed free essentials such as rice and condiments to the poor. They were honoured with shawls and were presented the “Care Humanity” award along with mementoes. Further, cultural events were organized where students participated in dance and song performances through an online platform.
