Brand India, New Delhi organized the ” Global CSR Conclave & Awards-2021 through a special webinar which was broadcasted Live on youtube on 22nd January-2021 from 6 pm onwards… The Global CSR Conclave & Awards is a leading thought leadership event on CSR.

There were four sub-themes, which were discussed by the CSR Experts.

· How businesses and NGOs can build a ” Future of work, ” that works for women

· Can Technology build a better world? AI, IOT, 5G in CSR

· Interaction between corporates and NGOs for Implementing CSR projects, creating trust and synergy

Mr Sandeep Simon Behera, Advisor and Mentor of the Global CSR Committee and Director ( Branding & Promotions ) , KARUNYA, Deemed to be University was the host of the event. He has also authored the book- ” Leadership in Everyday Life ” which is available in Amazon, Flipkart and Shopclues. He has compiled the first book on “CSR and its role in making AtmaNirbhar Bharat- ( A Self Reliant India ) , He edited another book on “Corporate Social Responsibility 4.0 ” along with Dr K K Upadhyay, an expert on CSR with more than 4 decades of experience in the CSR domain.

The esteemed panelists shared their views on the different sub-themes of the conclave.

Dr K K Upadhyay, was the chairman of the Global CSR Committee, his views were The role of corporates in fulfilling their social responsibilities in the vicinity of their operational plants and addressing the needs of rural neighbouring communities is imminent, for being a good corporate citizen, and acting beyond compliance. The value addition is rural development can be enhanced by corporates through their resources and skills sharing and employee volunteering in rural villages, through building partnerships with implementing agencies / NGOs working in rural space.

Mr. Atul Singh, from Emami Limited, said, Effective rural governance with active citizen participation is a vital tool in making empowerment happen. Together with varied stakeholders – government NGOs and corporates through ( PPP ), Private, Public and People partnerships, Innovative, replicable, and scalable models of CSR in rural development can be executed.

Dr. Lopamudra Priyadarshini, from Aditya Birla Utkal Alumina, spoke that We are strengthening community-led development initiatives to achieve positive social, economic and environmental change across rural India. We are empowering every person across rural India through skills and livelihood programs to lead a more secure, prosperous, and dignified life.

Ms Tania Pal from Crisil Foundation spoke, Many companies simply do not have the bandwidth to undertake consistent CSR Implementation on it requires large numbers of human resources and huge Infrastructure facilities for undertaking the developmental activities as required for CSR. As a result, NGOs pitch a streamlined, customized solution to these corporations for fulfilling their CSR goals.

Mr Tamil Maran, District Executive Officer, from the department of rural development & Panchayati raj of Govt. of Tamil Nadu, spoke, At the grassroots level projects are Implemented by NGOs in the most effective way in collaboration with the local government.

Mr Brajesh Gupta, from the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, Delhi, said ” EGO of NGOs or LOGO of Corporate” is not the point of discussion for a solution, for a better impact, collaboration and partnership of all stakeholders is a must.

Mr Pradeep Tandon, from Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Raipur, and Chairman of FICCI, Chhattisgarh state spoke, We are poised to create superior value for the stakeholders by meeting our customers needs creating world-class assets, and improving the living standard of our communities by working with the community – based organizations.

After discussions in the conclave, Brand India presented the International CSR Awards-2021, The International CSR Awards-2021, was the most prestigious recognition awards programme for corporate social responsibility. The programme recognizes and honors companies, Individuals, organizations, NGOs for outstandingly innovative and world-class products, services, projects and programmes implemented in the past or present.

This year this prestigious Award was presented to YALI Development Foundation, Tamil Nadu as the ” START-UP OF THE YEAR-2021″

The next award went to Mr. A R Sivaraman, Project Director? Addl. Collector of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Govt. of Tamil Nadu as the ” LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD -2021, for Implementation of VELMA ( Setting up 777 Rural Kiosks ).

The Third Award of the Year went to Mr Pradeep Tandon. President Jindal Steel & Power Limited & Chairman of FICCI, Chhattisgarh State for ” LEADERSHIP AWARD-2021 ”

Hyderabad: The Gaudium Athletic Track & the First Edition of the Gaudium Sportopia Athletics Annual Meet, being jointly hosted by the Gaudium Sportopia, Hyderabad District Athletic Association and the Khel Udaan initiative, was formally inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri Jayesh Ranjan, President, Telangana Olympic Body, on Saturday at the sprawling 27-acre campus of The Gaudium institution which houses The Gaudium School Sportopia and Artopia. Also present on the occasion was National Badminton Coach and Guest of Honor Padma Bhushan Pulella Gopichand; Mr Rajesh, President, Hyderabad District Athletic Association; Mr Ramesh, Dronacharya Awardee and Athletic Coach at Telangana Sports Authority of India; Ms Kirthi Reddy, Director, The Gaudium and Mr Ramakrishna Reddy, President, Gaudium Sportopia.

Over 350 students from across various Schools in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy District are participating in the one-day Annual Athletics Meet. The competitions are being held in the categories of 30M Run and Standing Broad Jump for below 8 years-Boys and Girls; 50M Run, Standing Broad Jump and Basketball Throw for below 10 years-Boys and Girls; 60M Run, 300M Run and 600M Run for below 12 years Boys and Girls; 60M Run, 300M Run and 600M Run for under 14 years Boys and Girls; 100M Run, 400M Run, Long Jump and 1 KM Run for under 16 Boys and Girls; 100M Run, 400M Run, Long Jump and 2 KM Run for Seniors Boys and Girls and 1KM Run for veterans both Men and Women above 40 years of age.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Jayesh Ranjan said, I congratulate Gaudium institution for setting up such a wonderful facility. In fact, there are hundreds and hundreds of schools in Hyderabad and many of them do have a sports ground or some sports facility, but when you visit them, you realize they have set that up to fulfil some formality, the education department requires them to have some facility, otherwise the school will not be recognized that’s why they set it up. But what we see here is absolutely amazing, it’s very different, the intention is not just to comply with some formality but to create excellent infrastructure, world class infrastructure which will motivate children and students to take up sports in a very structured and organized way, the foundation you laid is a positive sign to the great thing that are going to happen here. I understand they have thirty Coaches and instructors, I have not come across any School giving such high priority to sports and this can spur international standard sportsmen evolving from here. On behalf of the Government and the Olympic Association, we would like to collaborate, partner and support these kinds of initiatives.

Research Day 2021 ceremony at SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh encompasses various endeavors aimed at appreciating and encouraging scholars to carry out extensive research works to enrich society. Applauding the initiative, Dr P Sathyanarayanan, President, SRM AP stated “Research Day is when SRM University-AP commemorates the faculty and students for their outstanding research contributions. This university, though just a three-year-old one, has grown leaps and bounds in research and is now clearly the front runner among all the universities in the region.”

Prof V S Rao, Vice-Chancellor, SRM AP welcomed the Chief Guest Sri S Somanath, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, and other revered audiences. Prof V S Rao highlighted, “Research day brings an excellent opportunity for the scientific community to showcase their accomplishments and impactful research works.”

Advancing the celebration, Prof D Narayana Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, SRM AP took the virtual podium to comment “Science and Technology is the driving force for the economic development of India. We need to encourage young scholars by providing a vibrant and conducive research environment. Expanding the frontiers of knowledge by triggering interest among students must be the priority of the institutions. Also, the focus should be on translational research with societal applications through collaborative research to make our nation a global leader.”

During his motivating speech on “The Indian Space Enterprise Achievements & New Directions”, Dr. S Somanath interpreted the complexities of Space Engineering by describing details pertaining to space infrastructure, and technology elements in rocket production involving the development of space vehicles capable of operating for years unattended in the space. He further informs, “The high cost and low volume production remains the challenge associated with Space Engineering.” He also stated that there are increasing demand and scope for satellite startups and the export potential is on the higher side for satellites in India.

Dr. S Somanath proceeded to illuminate the audience on the changing horizons of the space industry, contributed by emerging technologies such as integrating satellites, drones, and terrestrial imagery. In addition, he addressed the disruptive technologies that led to reusable rockets, space technology-driven drones, etc., enhancing the market substantially for satellite production and reducing the market for the launching vehicles.

Consequently, Dr. S Somanath accentuated that the government bodies such as ISRO, IN-SPAC, and NSIL should remodel its direction of operation. He suggests, “Government of India should be opening the space sector and assist the new participants by sharing technological expertise. Startups and government bodies must be complementing one another to steer this industry towards excellence.”

Progressing with the celebration, eminent scientific works and contributions of various faculty, research scholars, and undergraduate students were rewarded. As part of the research day programme, the students and faculty were urged to submit abstracts of their research. Among 176 submissions from students and 40 from the faculty community of SRM AP, 20 were awarded gold medals while 6 were presented with silver medals. Further, a special issue of abstracts was unveiled during the Research Day celebration that comprised of all the submitted abstracts for public consumption.

MedScapeIndia Writes a Letter to Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman Suggesting Social Security for the Doctors to Fight Future Pandemics

Medical services professionals across the ranks, hierarchy, and professions have stood up for the nation and its people in the last few quarters. They have risked their lives and some have even martyred while serving people. We have lost some of the senior-most and knowledgeable medical professionals in the fight against Covid-19. The time has come when the nation needs to back its medical professionals and provide a secure lifestyle for the doctors.

We suggest the following for the ensuing budget for the medical professionals:

  1. Health Insurance Cover for all the medical staff for the period of 5 Years.
  • Govt. must provide the following health insurance to all staff members of all Government, non-corporate, ESIC, and Charitable hospitals.
  • Doctors: 1 Crore, Trainees: 25 lacs, Support staff nurses, ward boys, helpers, security guards, etc.: 20 lacs.
  • Govt. should bear the cost of insurance for these medical warriors. Medical staff and their family’s protection are the need of the hour and utmost responsibility of the Govt. Health Insurance should be provided through nationalized insurance companies.
  • This should be done digitally to ensure control, cost-effectiveness, and full coverage so that nobody is denied the right to insurance.
  1. Life Insurance Cover for all Medical professionals for 5 Year Period:
  • It is now well established that the side effects of Covid-19 are serious and may occur after a lapse of time such as blood thickening, organ failures, etc. resulting in sudden death. The families are left without any earning member and for doctors, it may be worse esp. For those who have taken loans for medical education. Govt. therefore must provide and pay for life insurance of all medical staff as mentioned above of at least Rs. 75 lacs irrespective of their designation or class of officers or sub staff. This should be done digitally to ensure control, cost-effectiveness, and full coverage so that nobody is denied the right to insurance.
  1. School Education curriculum to include new hygiene and basic medical emergency training under Fit India Movement:
  • The world is faced with a new paradigm of developing higher immunity and higher standards of self and social hygiene. We suggest that an allocation be made of Rs 500 crores p.a. to introduce this course at the primary school level. MedScapeIndia will be happy to work with Govt. in conceptualizing and designing the course. We also suggest that this should be free of cost to school students and Govt. should bear the cost. An honorarium is paid to medical staff. If this can be achieved, the nation will be “PANDEMIC CRISIS READY” for good. Compared to benefits, this is nothing in terms of cost. India will emerge as a stronger youth nation.
  1. Govt. Scholarship Fund for sponsoring Advance Training for Women Doctors esp. Gynecologists, Pediatric, physician, Radiologist.
  • India has set a benchmark in dealing with the pandemic in terms of processes and procedures to deal with the covid-19 challenge. Medical Professionals have proven their grit and intelligence to earn India this glory. The world will study how slums in Dharavi were saved from spreading covid-19 at its peak. However, India is still not at the forefront of medical inventions as the western world is. This is esp. true for Gynecologists & Pediatric Doctors who need to visit and be trained in the western world to learn the same.
  • While corporate hospitals can sponsor their doctors, a lot of doctors in far-flung districts are left without this knowledge. Esp. young aspiring women Gynecologists need the attention of the Govt. as women prefer women Gynecologists in most parts even today. It is a burning need to address this issue.
  • We propose that Govt. set up a scholarship program of Rs. 250 crores to sponsor expenses of training for women doctors who are running individual small clinics in the field of Gynecology, Pediatrics. This amount will suffice for one doctor per district. The scope can be expanded in the future to include multiple disciplines and male doctors too.
  1. Tax exemption on Doctors who want to elevate rural health infrastructure and want to start a hospital.  Govt. can design criteria for selecting such women doctors such as turnover of less than 1 crore, number of years of experience, qualifications, language ability, etc. MedScapeIndia- AMET will be happy to assist Govt. in designing the framework of the policy.

The world is moving at a fast pace in next-gen medical research. The base is allopathic with pharmacology, biomedicines, and genetic engineering. These are pure sciences that require an extremely high level of technology and cannot be combined with other alternate sciences such as Ayurveda, homeopathy, Yunani, Tibetan, Chinese, etc. There is a huge amount of funding being given by Govt esp. in US Universities to carry out such research. Aatmanirbhar should include the independence of India in such modern allopathic research too instead of reliance if the western world. We suggest that Govt makes a special allocation to further such cases of allopathic research in India through Universities and AIIMS. Allocation of fund improves allopathy especially MBBS to avoid the deficiencies of doctors & myopathy practice issues in the country.

The lockdown due to the COVID-19 scare had a significant impact on the GDP however, over the last few months, macroeconomic indicators are showing signs of recovery. However, an area that has always been ignored is that of healthcare for the elderly. Every fourth Indian above the age of 60 and every fifth above the age of 45 reported poor health in a recent Union ministry survey. I urge the government to focus on this segment to ensure that our elderly are well taken of. Some ways of doing this are:

Insurance – Extending insurance cover for new-age health services such as step down facility care & home care for the elderly. This will ensure improved quality care, thus reducing re-admissions & hence reduce the burden on tertiary care. Currently, a few pre and post hospitalisation costs are covered which are insufficient. It is suggested that Insurance schemes cover the cost of services rendered at specialized centres such as assisted, memory & palliative care centres, hospice and centres for PWD & special needs.

Interest rates, Income tax & GST

a. It is recommended that a higher rate of interest be provided on deposits by Senior Citizens than what is prevailing now. Deposit linked insurance scheme should be formulated which will provide peace of mind to the elderly. Relevant changes to be introduced to safeguard the deposit of seniors in banks, mutual funds or any other approved funds and in the event of default by these institutions the Government shall make good these losses of seniors.

b. Reduction or ‘nil rate’ of GST on rentals of care facilities: Health care services are exempt from output GST. Any input taxes paid by care providers is a cost to the entity and they don’t avail any offset benefits. Rentals, especially in metros, are costly and GST of 18% adds to the burden. Considering this if the GST on such rentals is made ‘nil’ or reduced rate, it will help the care providers and pass the benefit to the older patients and make it affordable.

c. Income tax concessions for older persons to be considered. Income tax can be abolished for older persons on their earned income (pension & interest on deposits of their earned monies). This will put extra monies in their hands to be used for their health and welfare.

  1. Organisation’s employing citizens above the age of 60 shall be suitably incentivized including additional tax rebate, exemption from labour laws for that group of people etc. Reverse Mortgage– Popularise and make changes to reverse mortgage schemes. The current reverse mortgage schemes are less popular owing to lack of lending initiatives from banks and stricter conditions. The present regulation relating to reverse mortgage to be amended to permit senior citizens to vacate the property that is under reverse mortgage to move to a senior living, care home or such other specialised facilities.Infrastructure, Community health initiative

    a. It is suggested to encourage State Governments to implement Community health initiative specifically targeting the geriatric population in a PPP model with private players. CSR funds from corporates can be deployed for this purpose. This will allow access to quality geriatric care to the underprivileged.
  2. Accessibility to public places. The government must provide for a revised guideline to make public places elder safe and also public transport accessible. State governments must be mandated to pursue these initiatives.Human Resources

    a. Increase the current allocation of admissions in Medical colleges to promote MD Geriatrics course & introduce Diploma courses for MD Physicians.b. Introduce Care Giving as a specialization in Nursing colleges and promote the same extensively. Subsidize the fees for such students

    c. Evolve special labour law codes for home-based care providers

Separate Ministry

a. It is suggested to establish a separate ministry for senior citizens or an exclusive department under the relevant ministry which will oversee the policy implementation by collaborating with various bodies & state governments. It will also act as a nodal body to address grievances.

b. Senior Care shall be recognised as a separate industry to ensure that adequate importance is attached to the same.
