Siliguri, Oct 14: The two-day Agomoni Nritya Utsav 2026, organised by Nritya Mallika Dance Academy, Siliguri, concluded successfully with vibrant performances, enthusiastic participation and a celebration of India’s rich cultural diversity. Dedicated to welcoming Maa Durga, the festival brought together eminent gurus, distinguished guests, established artists and young dancers on a common platform to celebrate the beauty of Indian dance, music and tradition.

The festival commenced on 7 October at Dinabandhu Mancha, Siliguri, in the presence of several distinguished personalities, including renowned dancer and SNA Awardee Guru Dr. Shobha Koser of Chandigarh, Dr. Shankar Ghosh, Hon’ble MLA, Vidushi Dr. Samita Koser, Shri Sajal Koser, Dr. Upendra Sharma and Vidushi Sangita Chaki, along with other eminent personalities from the cultural fraternity.

One of the most touching moments of the inaugural programme was the heartfelt welcome and special felicitation accorded to Guruma, Guru Dr. Shobha Koser. The students and artists of Nritya Mallika Dance Academy expressed their profound respect, love and gratitude through this emotional gesture, creating an atmosphere filled with devotion, affection and joy.

Nearly 250 students of Nritya Mallika Dance Academy participated in the first day’s programme, presenting an impressive range of classical dance, Agomoni, Devi Vandana, Mahishasura Mardini and other devotional and thematic performances. The dance-drama Dashadike Durga emerged as a special attraction, receiving an overwhelming response from the audience and beautifully portraying the power, grace and divine presence of Maa Durga.

A significant highlight of the evening was the musical presentation by renowned sitarist Shri Subrata De, who travelled specially from Delhi to participate in the festival. Accompanied by tabla artist Shri Subir Adhikari, his soulful sitar recital enriched the dance presentations with musical depth, rhythm and emotional expression. The harmonious interplay of classical music and dance created a memorable experience for the audience.

The second day, held on 8 October at Rabindra Mancha, Shaktigarh, Siliguri, transformed the festival into a vibrant interregional Nritya Mahotsav. Dancers and artists from different parts of Eastern and North-Eastern India came together to showcase the richness and diversity of their respective dance traditions.

More than 45 talented artists from Assam participated, alongside dancers representing Alipurduar, Dinhata, Sikkim, Darjeeling and other regions. Around 150 dancers came together on one stage, presenting a colourful array of artistic expressions and cultural traditions. The programme featured a total of 72 dance performances across the festival, making it a remarkable celebration of artistic talent, dedication and cultural exchange.

The gathering of artists from diverse regions reflected the festival’s broader vision of building cultural bridges, encouraging mutual respect and strengthening unity through the universal language of dance. Beyond its devotional significance, Agomoni Nritya Utsav served as a meaningful platform for young performers to gain exposure, develop confidence and connect with the wider artistic community.

Speaking on the successful conclusion of the festival, Smt. Rimpi Saha Banik, Founder Director of Nritya Mallika Dance Academy, congratulated all the participating dancers, teachers and supporters and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the artists who travelled from different places to perform on a common stage.

Goa, Oct 8: Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar, one of the most powerful and respected performers in Indian cinema, died on Thursday at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.

According to reports, Patekar was found unconscious at his home and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors reportedly made efforts to revive him for nearly 45 minutes, but he could not be saved. He was declared dead at around 5:20 am, according to reports quoting Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

The news of Patekar’s sudden death has sent shockwaves across the Indian film industry, bringing an end to a remarkable career spanning more than four decades.

Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, in Murud-Janjira in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, Nana Patekar established himself as an actor known for his commanding screen presence, distinctive voice and intensely realistic performances.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the modernised studio complex along with a dedicated cinema archive and museum, aimed at preserving the state’s rich and evolving cinematic heritage.

The redevelopment is expected to provide filmmakers with modern production and post-production facilities within the state, reducing their dependence on infrastructure outside Odisha.

From shooting floors to post-production

The revamped Kalinga Studio has been designed as an integrated film-production hub, offering facilities covering several stages of filmmaking.

The complex includes indoor shooting floors, a snow house, chroma floor and technology zone, apart from infrastructure for sound recording, dubbing, editing and post-production work.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Majhi said the upgraded facility would enable Odia filmmakers to access advanced technical infrastructure without having to travel to other states.

He also indicated that additional modern facilities would be introduced at the studio in the future.

A permanent home for Odisha’s cinematic memory

A key feature of the redevelopment is the new archive and museum, which will serve as a repository for the history of Odia cinema.

The facility is expected to preserve old films, posters, photographs and important historical documents, creating a space where future generations can explore the evolution of the state’s film industry.

OFDC gets a new digital platform

The occasion also saw the launch of the new official portal of the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC), adding a digital component to the state’s efforts to strengthen the film ecosystem.

Odisha Invites Entries for 37th State Film Awards 2025

Bhubaneswar, Oct. 1 (UDN): The Odisha government has invited entries from film producers and writers for the 37th Odisha State Film Awards-2025, with the deadline for submissions set for October 31, 2026.

The Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture has issued the invitation for eligible applicants seeking recognition for their contribution to Odia cinema.

Producers Can Submit Films by October 31

Film producers interested in participating can submit their entries along with the required documents and a soft copy of the film stored on a pen drive.

The submissions can be sent to the concerned department through registered post, speed post or parcel, and must reach the department by October 31.

Entries Invited for Best Writing on Odia Cinema

The department has also invited applications for the Best Writing (Book/Monograph) on Odia Cinema award.

Writers interested in the category are required to apply in the prescribed format and submit 10 copies of their book or monograph to the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture.

These submissions must also reach the department through registered post, speed post or parcel by the October 31 deadline.

The Odisha State Film Awards recognise achievements and contributions to the state’s film industry across various categories, providing a platform to honour creative work in Odia cinema.

Kalki 2898 AD’ Wins Two National Film Awards, Makers Celebrate Major Milestone

Kevadia (Gujarat), Sept. 23: The sci-fi epic ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ added another major achievement to its record after securing two honours at the 72nd National Film Awards.

The Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan-starrer was named Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, while Nitin Zihani received the National Award for Best Production Design for his work on the film.

Directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the film was recognised for its ambitious visual world and its fusion of Indian mythology, futuristic storytelling and science-fiction elements.

Vyjayanthi Movies Celebrates Double Recognition

Legendary bhajan singer and Padma Shri awardee Anup Jalota launched the app and also unveiled its logo. Guests at the event were given a glimpse of the religious and spiritual programs that will soon be available on the platform.

Actors Sandeep Mohan and Sanjay Swaraj from the film and television industry were also present at the launch. Both actors have worked on special shows created for ‘Bhaktidwar’. All the guests and contributors present at the event were felicitated with mementos.
Dinesh Asopa, founder of the ‘Bhaktidwar Television App’, revealed that the project has been a long-cherished dream that took nearly a decade to become a reality.

“I have been working on this app for the last 10 years. Our objective was not merely to create another OTT platform, but to build a digital destination where people can access devotional, spiritual and Sanatan Dharma-related content under one roof. Seeing this dream finally become a reality is a very special moment for me,” said Asopa.

He explained that ‘Bhaktidwar’ will feature religious series, devotional music, mantras, chalisas, spiritual discourses, AI-generated videos, animation content and live telecasts of religious events. The platform aims to take Sanatan culture and spiritual values to audiences in India and across the world through modern technology.

The subscription fee for the app has been kept at just ₹11 per week, making it affordable and accessible to a wider audience.

Speaking at the launch, Padma Shri Anup Jalota praised the initiative and said, “I have myself entered Bhaktidwar. It is not just an app; it is a gateway to devotion, happiness and peace. Today, people are going through stress, anxiety and mental pressure. In such times, remembering God, listening to bhajans and connecting with spirituality can bring true peace to the mind. I believe Bhaktidwar will connect millions of people with spirituality and bring positivity into their lives.”
He further added, “Today’s younger generation is also embracing devotional music and spiritual content. When a person is under stress, there is no greater comfort than remembering God and immersing oneself in devotion. Bhaktidwar is a wonderful initiative that carries this positive thought forward.”

Several special series created for ‘Bhaktidwar’ have been directed by filmmaker Jaidev Chakravorty, presenting spiritual themes in a contemporary format while retaining their devotional essence.
