JCB India launches the Industry’s first dual-fuel CNG Backhoe Loader in India

India’s leading manufacturer of Earthmoving and Construction equipment, JCB India Limited, today launched the Industry’s first dual-fuel CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) Backhoe Loader in India. Called the JCB 3DX DFi, this new machine can operate on CNG and diesel simultaneously using the HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) technology.

The machine was launched at New Delhi by the Honourable Minister for Road Transport & Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Nitin Gadkari. He has been a leading voice for the development of Construction machinery that uses alternate fuels and inspiration on CNG interventions in Construction Equipment Vehicles.

The utilisation of alternate fuels is a significant step-change in the Construction Equipment Vehicle Sector. Since the JCB 3DX DFi operates on a mixture of CNG and diesel, there is a substantial drop in particulate emission. This also leads to a reduction of proportionate CO2 emissions.

CNG is also more economical and helps lower the operating costs to the end customer. With the global concern on the environment and sustainability, JCB is committed to supporting the cause through the launch of this Dual Fuel CNG Backhoe Loader. The machine has been developed in India and has been tested in various operating conditions before its launch. It will be built at the company’s Delhi-NCR factory at Ballabgarh.

Speaking at the occasion JCB India’s CEO and Managing Director, Deepak Shetty said “Throughout our four decades of operations in India, we have continued to invest in Innovation. It is one of the cornerstones of our operations. This dual-fuel machine can substitute Diesel with CNG and has been developed to cater to the evolving needs of our customers. It will further contribute to the creation of Infrastructure in the country and will also be exported to countries around the world”

An embodiment of the vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, JCB India has five Factories and a Design Centre in the country. JCB group’s sixth factory is currently under construction at Vadodara, Gujarat. The company has exported Made in India machines to over 110 countries which are designed and manufactured as per JCB’s One Global Quality Standard.

This dual-fuel CNG Backhoe Loader is based on the same 3DX model which is well established in the Indian market. It offers flexible fuelling, which will help customers sustain in remote areas, where a CNG refilling point is unavailable.

Deepak Shettyfurther said “JCB has been working on this project with the inputs of its Customers, Dealers and Suppliers. These machines have been tested at actual customer sites across various geographies and terrains and feedback has been incorporated in the development of the product”

JCB has one of the widest dealer networks in the country. Engineers at its 60+ dealers and more than 700 outlets are trained and with adequate parts stock at each of its locations. This ensures customers get professional product support. The machine will also come fitted with JCB’s advanced telematics technology – JCB LiveLink. Through this, machines can be tracked and monitored in real-time. This technology also gives updates on Service, Operations and Security of the machine, online or through a mobile application.

Till date, approximately 1,60,000 LiveLink enabled JCB machines have been sold. They can be geo-fenced, time-fenced and can be located through GPS. Customers get to know about the machine’s health, fuel level, battery conditions, etc. almost all critical parameters of their fleet on their mobile devices. It also gives out service reminders and the history of the machine.

JCB India has further integrated digital technology into its operations through the JCB Genuine Parts Application. This enables customers to order parts online for their JCB machines. Further, an internal tool, Smart Serve has been developed to help dealerships support engineers to improve efficiency and productivity and also reach customers in remote areas, thus helping in machine uptime.

CSR has been a buzz word since India has been the first country to introduce statutory provisions with respect to CSR under companies act-2013. In the first five years of the mandated CSR era, India Inc has made significant progress from adoption to the application of the law, and now from alignment to sustainable development Goals ( SDGs ).

The key question now is – what has been the impact of spending that has happened so far? How can corporations leverage on it by creating essential services such as Sanitation, Health Care, Clean Drinking Water, Education and Financial literacy and what can be done to maximize it, scale it up, and make it sustainable?

The IICSR-2020, Let’s hear from the CSR and civil society leaders some challenges, opportunities and learnings based on their experiences. A cross-fertilization of thoughts between policymakers, funders, researchers and implementers would be facilitated – highlighting key parameters for measurable, scalable and sustainable impact.

By practising Corporate Social Responsibility, also called corporate citizenship, companies can be conscious of the kind of Impact they are having on all aspects of society, including economic, social and environmental..

For a company to be socially responsible, it first needs to be accountable to itself and stakeholders. Often companies that adopt CSR programs have grown their business to the point where they can give back to society. AAtmanirbhar Bharat

Corporate Social Responsibility directly supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative

Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan means self-reliant India or self-sufficient India, is the vision of the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi of making India a bigger and more important part of the global economy, pursuing policies that are efficient, competitive and resilient, and being self-sustaining and self-generating. Atmanirbhar Bharat does not mean self-containment, isolating away from the world or being protectionist. The first mention of this came during the announcement of India’s COVID-19 pandemic related economic package on 12 May 2020. The five pillars of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ are economy, infrastructure, technology-driven systems, vibrant demography and demand.

Corporate Social Responsibility directly supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat would be achieved when each stakeholder in the larger socio-economic ecosystem of the nation e.g., corporations, academic and research institutions, civil society and the government can collectively contribute. Corporations play a major role because they have the resources, the professional manpower and the ability to create “development labs” in targeted areas. The COVID-19 pandemic and the territorial challenges faced on the borders have created a situation where it has become imperative for India to reduce dependencies on global supply chains, and focus on creating innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems that would lead to economic and technological self-reliance and self-sufficiency through homegrown success stories.

Fireside discussions were organized by Brand India on Atmanirbhar Bharat and the role of CSR in making New India. The event focused on discussing five pillars of self-reliant India including Economy (quantum jumps, not incremental changes), Infrastructure (that represents modern India), System (technology-driven), Demography (vibrant demography of the largest democracy) and Demand (full utilization of the power of demand and supply) with eminent thought leaders to understand the overall social development with the prime aim of improving lives of people. It became evident that the CSR initiatives are playing a significant role in making New India self-reliant.

Many big brands in the corporate are now aligning their CSR initiatives with UN sustainable development goals to make India Atmanirbhar. The industry has contributed to the PM Care fund and launched several programs to improve the lives of people through skill and livelihood programs, spending beyond the compliance amount of CSR. With an aim at reviving the Indian economy and making the country a world leader across industries and support the government innovative movement of Atmanirbhar, where the government is ‘Vocal for Local’; three roundtables were organized on 16, 27 and 30 October 2020.

To conclude the series of discussions the prestigious “Brand India Excellence Awards -2020 ” were presented to individuals by Dr. K. K. Upadhyay – CSR Trainer of The Year, Dr. Lopa Mudra Priyadarshini – CSR Person of The Year, Mr. Ajit Kumar – Corporate Social Responsibility in Priority Areas and Mr. Vikas Bhatia – CSR Professional of the Year for their outstanding achievements. Three companies were awarded Integrated Centre for Consultancy (P) Ltd as PR Agency of the Year, Sterlite Tech Foundation as Most Socially Responsible Company of the Year and Vedanta- ESL Steel Ltd. Bokaro as Most Innovative CSR Program of the Year.

A limited-edition book on “CSR and its role in making Atmanirbhar Bharat ( A Self-Reliant India)” by Mr. Sandeep Simon Behera Director Branding – Karunya University, was launched at the function. The book provides insight into various aspects of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the role of corporations in achieving it. The prominent contributors have highlighted how we can achieve the goal of self-reliance much before 2030 with the right approach and partnerships between the government, corporates, civil society, community and other institutions. The involvement of all stakeholders will enable a 360-degree approach towards creating a stronger solution and working together will bring the required change far more efficiently and relatively quickly. It will boost their work and generate better socio-economic benefits in a holistic manner, strengthening Atmanirbhar.

Atmanirbhar bharat 2

Roundtable to discuss Atmanirbhar Bharat

Brand India organized a round table discussion on Atmanirbhar Bharat and the role of CSR in making New India. The event focused on discussing five pillars of self-reliant India including Economy (quantum jumps, not incremental changes), Infrastructure (that represents modern India), System (technology-driven), Demography (vibrant demography of the largest democracy) and Demand (full utilization of the power of demand and supply).

Speakers from various sector including Dr. Ajay Data, Founder and CEO of Data Ingenious Global; Mr. Ajit Kumar (Founder Khushigram); Mr. Ashish Sachdeva (Founder Green Dream Foundation); Dr KK Upadhyay, Director Centre for Social Review; Mr. Atul Singh, Vice President CSR Emami Ltd; Mr. Praveen Karn, Head CSR Spark Minda Group; Dr. Lopamudra Priyadarshini, General Manager Sustainability & Community Relations Aditya Birla Group and Mr. Chandradutta Panigrahi, Indian Thinker and Futurist shared their views. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Sandeep Simon Behera; renowned author and Director Branding and Promotion Karunya Deemed to be University.

Dr. Ajay Data added two more pillars of self-reliant India i.e. Attitude and Quality. India is rich in technology and software’s but we are habitual of world-class technology. We cannot force citizens to use poor Indian products when world-class products and services are available. Also, We all are using domain name .com, why we can’t use domain name .in .bharat (in Hindi or My Indian language). We
have domain names in all languages but we are habitual to one particular language i.e. English. The vision of our Prime Minister to build a New India: Digital India by breaking the language barrier, using all the latest technologies enabling the masses, will surely help in counting our country as Atmanirbhar Bharat..”

Mr. Ajit Kumar, said, “Quantum leap needs massive disruption of thought, belief, planning and action. This means a Modern India (Bharat) with her own tools and techniques best fit for the land and people are driven by a wise mix of so-called’ and ‘traditional’ technologies. These have to be based on a full life cycle approach for a truly circular, green and sustainable economy. And all these have to be based on values of share and care to be self-reliant in all sectors and regions. That’s the only to fulfil basic requirements of all Indians based on a high degree of Truth, Trust and Transparency.”

Atmanirbhar Bharat means making India a bigger and more important player in the global economy. India’s self-reliance would be based on – Economy, Infrastructure, System, Demography and Demand. It is not about being close to the world, but being self-sustaining and self-generating in this new normal.” Dr. K.K. Upadhyay.

Mr. Praveen Karn, said, “There is only one formula for sustainability i.e. self-dependence.
Speaking on the role of CSR Mr. Atul Singh said, “CSR can play a larger role of a catalyst and enabler in making India Atmanirbhar. Most of the corporates integrate their CSR with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. However, there is a greater need for CSR to be integrated and aligned with the country’s vision for the future to ensure democratization of service delivery and inclusive growth for all.”

Elaborating the benefits of Atmanirbhar Bharat Dr. Lopamudra Priyadarshini said, “Self-reliant India or Atmanirbhar Bharat will prove beneficial in strengthening the society from the grass-root levels, giving the required boost to the economy. Products that generate socio-economic benefits need to focus upon, with promoting artisans and their handicraft making skills. With this, we can boost their work and generate better socio-economic benefits in a holistic manner, strengthening Atma Nirbhar Bharat movement. The equal participation of stakeholders and civilians enables the CSR to work to generate positive and sustainable impact. And for creating transparency and accountability for companies, digitalization is required with a multi-faceted approach where on the internal level, the stakeholders can keep a track of fund spends on different projects via different software integrations. On the external or field level, digitalization and markers can enable the proper execution of projects and post-completion maintenance required for long-term benefits.”

Atmanirbhar Bharat

“Atmanirbhar spirit will result in India coming out much stronger after Covid-19,” says minister Hardeep Singh Puri

Kolkata: “The Atmanirbhar Bharat spirit will result in India coming out much stronger after Covid-19 because we are unleashing our animus spirits in terms of self-reliance and work. Some of this is in reaction to global trends. If the global supply chains are unduly dominated by a particular country, and you apprehend difficulties, well thats the genius of the Indian people to quickly rebound and the results are heartwarming,” said Mr Hardeep Singh Puri at a special online session of The Write Circle and in conversation with former diplomat, author and foreign policy analyst, T C A Raghavan, organized by Prabha Khaitan Foundation of Kolkata. The Write Circle is a forum that brings top minds and experts to share perspectives and deep insights from diverse fields and spheres of activity.

Mr Puri, who currently holds three portfolios as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Minister of State, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in response to a question by Mr. Raghavan further said, “Atmanirbhar Bharat is not intended to be an inward-looking excuse to close our borders to the world. It is a spirit and a resolve to make us more productive and better members of the International Community and the global system. We are on the cusp of the fourth industrial revolution with the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and artificial intelligence, and the spirit is to make sure we don’t become a lego or just nuts and bolts. Atmanirbhar will resonate strongly because we want to take advantage of the other supply chains in the world.”

As a career diplomat for 39 years, Mr. Puri has held many important posts including former Representative of India in the United Nations, President of UN Security Council and Chairman of UNSC Counter-Terrorism Committee and others. Mr. Puri has also authored two books Perilous Interventions and Delusional Politics.

Commenting on various challenges and struggles of the COVID pandemic, Mr. Puri said, “Since 6th May India has now (in the fifth phase) brought back over 1.4 million citizens from across the globe during the pandemic. I can say with a sense of confidence that this is the largest evacuation and repatriation mission undertaken at any point of time in human history and the rate at which things are moving we shall set a new record. We were able to do it within reasonable arrangements of social distancing and other safety quotients.”

Touching upon different topics he said that the lockdown has helped us to create necessary infrastructure – the number of beds required; PPEs, ventilators, medicines, etc., that have been exported to many countries in the world, including the developed West.

Puri lauded the Prime Minister for the foresight and courageous steps to combat the pandemic. “The decision to prioritise life and livelihood is a difficult one. Domestic civil aviation was opened on 22nd May and in the pre-COVID days India was handling 2.5 to 3 lakh passengers per day. By Diwali we hope to handle 1.5 to 2 lakh passengers per day and hopefully, by the end of the year we would go back to the pre-covid days,” Puri said.

Talking about his other ministry, he said that they have built more than 6,00,000 public toilets and more than 66,00,000 toilets in individual households. This has helped to reduce the open defecation in India and also helped in gender empowerment by providing safety and security to the girl child. The Yojanas that helped micro industries has played a huge role in tackling covid. These micro industries produced crores of face masks, lakhs of PPE kits and thousands of litres of sanitisers.

Even though a scheme such Awas Yojana shouldn’t be a factor in deciding who to vote for, there is some sort of correlation according to Puri. Even in the case of youngsters who faced job problems came in and voted for Modi ji because there was a clear outline of the plan.

The timing of the expo is in sync with the movements in the market especially in the current pandemic scenario where industries are looking forward to revival. According to a recent research report by GLEEDS, general sentiments in the market show the business to be slowly picking up, however, Q4 2020 shows a poor to moderate returns and a sense of normalcy would be expected to return only in Q2 2021, provided the vaccine is found and distributed in India by year-end 2020.

InfraConex aims to create a business /experience for all the industry stakeholders such as construction equipment companies, distributors, policy makers, government, financial institutions, associations, organizations, forums, and alliances related to the construction equipment market. The expo will also help the MSME companies from the construction sector to connect with the financial institutions to better understand the government policies of funding MSME. This would be especially useful given that 30 % of equipment manufacturers in India comprise Gujarat based MSMEs. Special products zone will be created to display the innovative products manufactured by the MSMEs.”

“We are extremely proud to partner with KDCL for InfraConex that will support us with their worldwide networking, pre-emptive planning, and execution. It will provide a platform to showcase the path-breaking technologies, automation, and solutions for the industry to ascend to the next level. It will help industry stakeholders explore the latest products and technologies and thereby help them in CAPEX related decision making.
