Pride month is an entire month dedicated to the uplifting of LGBTQIA+ voices, a celebration of their culture, and the support of their rights. This year, Amazon India celebrates its commitment to diversity and inclusion; be its employees, sellers, partners, customers, and many others who are proud to call themselves allies. Demonstrating this commitment to a gender-neutral culture, the company has designed a limited-edition tape that will seal the Amazon brown box bringing your package to your doorstep. In June, Amazon boxes being dispatched from fulfilment centres in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru will carry the special tape with the Pride flag of 11 colours, reflecting the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community and the spectrum of human sexuality and gender.

Amazon India has built an inclusive workspace with employees from the LGBTQAI+ community across diverse jobs – from product managers to art directors to pack associates at fulfilment centres to HR managers to delivery associates. To support the needs of this community, the company offers a Same Gender Partner Coverage Program, which helps employees enroll their same gender partner in their health insurance program. Employees also have the option to choose a Gender reassignment surgery or sign up for Infertility treatment, both of which are provided as part of the health insurance benefit. The company also supports LGBTQIA+ employees with resources and access to counsellors, through their Employee Assistance Program. The company is hosting on-site vaccination events in 26 cities and will expand to more cities in the coming weeks.
National, 09 June 2021: After launching its first on-site vaccination event for frontline teams three weeks ago, Amazon India, today completed vaccinating over 100,000 people including frontline associates, employees, and their dependents. The on-site vaccination events are currently being hosted in 26cities including key metros and cities such as Ludhiana, Ranchi, and Raipur, in conjunction with licensed healthcare partners. The company will continue to expand these events to more cities and towns like Mysore, Surat, and Indore to name a few, over the coming weeks.

The on-site vaccination drive strengthens Amazon India’s commitment to make vaccination a ready choice for 10 lakh people including employees, partners, and SMB sellers, and their dependents.

Abhinav Singh, Director, Amazon Transportation Services said, “In line with our efforts to ensure the health & safety of our teams, we have made vaccination a ready choice for all of our employees, partners, sellers, and their dependents. This also ties back to our commitment to the safety of our people, customers, and the communities we operate in. Over 100,000 of our associates, employees, and their dependents have received their first dose and we continue to relentlessly work towards making vaccination a ready choice for all our frontline teams and employees in the coming weeks. Amazon India is enabling multiple channels including easy access to hospitals, vaccination reimbursements, and on-site events to encourage its employees to get vaccinated.

“I wanted to get myself vaccinated for my own and my family’s safety”, said Sikandar Singh, PackingAssociate, Amazon India.“All the work is managed by Amazon India and I am glad that the vaccination event is being conducted at our work site. I am very happy to be vaccinated. People should definitely take the vaccine for COVID-19, everything will be ok.” he added.

In addition to the on-site vaccination program, the company has put in place several initiatives for those who do not have access to on-site vaccination events. Amazon India is offering up to INR 750 as special pay to frontline employees who choose to get vaccinated. Additionally, they have put together a COVID-19 specific benefits and support system to help our frontline workers and their eligible dependents. These include salary advance, COVID-19 special leave, and isolation facility support, to name a few. These benefits are on top of the $2.5 billion Amazon has invested in special bonuses and incentives for its teams worldwide over the last year and the $11.5 billion it has invested in COVID-19-related measures overall.

Amazon India will engage with more Indian OEMs, lending strength to ‘Make in India’ and AtmaNirbhar Bharat to achieve its goal of 10,000 EVs by 2025.

National, 18 April, 2021: Amazon India today reaffirmed its commitment towards the electrification of its last mile delivery fleet to reduce its dependence on non-renewable resources at a virtual event with Shri Nitin Gadkari, leaders from Amazon India and CEOs of leading OEMs. Amazon India recently announced that it is working with Mahindra Electric to add more electric vehicles (EV) in its delivery fleet. Today, Hero Electric as well as start-ups such as EVage are engaging with Amazon India to expand the company’s fleet of EVs to enable sustainable deliveries of customer orders. Amazon India’s Delivery Service Partners are already operating EVs of multiple formats in over 20 cities in India including Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Bhopal, Indore and Coimbatore to name a few.

The collaborative effort strengthens Amazon India’s commitment to include 10,000 EVs as part of its delivery fleet by 2025. These EVs are in addition to the company’s global commitment of 100,000 electric vehicles in its delivery fleet by 2030 announced in the Climate Pledge signed by Amazon. Amazon India’s Delivery Service Partner fleet of EVs now includes 2-wheeler, 3-wheeler and 4-wheeler vehicles, which are designed and made in India and will be deployed across the company’s delivery partner network.

Virtually flagging off a fleet of EVs at Smbhav 2021, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister of MSME, Road Transport and Highways said, “As we enter the 75th year of Indian independence we need to focus on our collective efforts towards a green and sustainable India. I want to congratulate Amazon for being the first company to sign the Climate Pledge by committing to net zero carbon across the business, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. The Indian e-mobility industry has made significant progress over the last few years, with the Indian government’s focus to encourage the adoption of EVs. The inclusion of EVs in Amazon India’s fleet further powers India’s electric mobility progress and complements its focus on ‘Make in India’ EVs.

Amazon India to cover COVID-19 vaccine cost for more than 10 lakh people; to include employees, associates, SMB sellers, Operations Partners and their dependents

As COVID-19 vaccines become available to individuals above 45 years of age in India, Amazon India is encouraging its employees, associates, sellers on Amazon.in and partners to get vaccinated at the earliest appropriate time to protect themselves, their families, and their communities. Amazon India will cover the COVID-19 vaccination cost for not only all its India employees and associates but will also cover the costs for operations partner network of Delivery Service Partner associates, including Amazon Flex drivers, I Have Space (IHS) store partners, trucking partners and also their eligible dependents. Amazon India announced that the benefit will also be available to all sellers, on Amazon.in with an active listing since last year.

The company has also set up comprehensive support mechanisms for employees and associates working with Amazon and hired through staffing agencies. Amazon India supports cost coverage for COVID-19 treatment, hospital search and coverage of prescribed COVID-19 tests. Initiatives have been scaled and evolved to address the prevailing situation.

Speaking about this development, Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President & Country Manager, Amazon India, said, “Over the last year, it has been humbling to see the way our teams, sellers and partners have responded to the challenging situation posed by COVID-19 across the country. These new benefits are on top of the $2.5 billion Amazon has invested in special bonuses and incentives for teams globally over the last year, and the $11.5 billion the company has invested in COVID-19-related measures overall. This investment has enabled the company to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) and extensive safety measures for employees and partners throughout the global network along with other financial support initiatives.
In 2020, Amazon had rolled out a number of measures to support SMBs in its ecosystem in India to navigate the economic challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic including a variety of fee waivers, relaxation of policies, and we worked with an insurance provider to facilitate COVID-19 health insurance coverage for eligible sellers on Amazon.in. The company had also enabled ‘on demand disbursement’ to enable sellers to get their disbursements daily.

The Amazon Relief Fund (ARF) was launched in India in April 2020 with a $25 million relief fund for partners and continues to provide support to all eligible individuals. ARF can be utilized by qualifying individuals who have been quarantined or diagnosed with COVID-19. The company extended the ‘Amazon Relief Fund’ to all eligible delivery associates who are part of the Delivery Service Partner Program, Amazon Flex program and trucking partners providing transportation support in the event of financial hardships.

Amazon India also announced a Partner Support Fund for the Small and Medium Business enterprises part of the company’s logistics network who were financially impacted due to the nationwide lockdown in April 2020. This enabled their Delivery Service partners and select transportation partners to support thousands of their associates through financial hardships, and to help cover critical fixed costs and liquidity concerns of these entrepreneurs.

This Indore based-IHS partner is building her entrepreneurial legacy while steering Amazon India’s operations

When the going gets tough, some women take charge and work to turn it around. These women choose to view every challenge as an opportunity and serve as an inspiration to other women looking to build a legacy for their families. Indore-based Sunita Dabi is one among them.

Sunita has been responsible for taking care of her family’s needs for a while now. After separating from her husband a few years, the responsibility of her childrens’ future landed on her shoulders. The earnings from her job as a security guard, however, were meager and managing her family finances and two childrens’ education was becoming a challenge. She was steadfast in her resolve to give them a brighter future and started helping in her father’s shop, Bhiru Bhai Kirana Store.

Her indomitable spirit saw her exploring other avenues that enabled her to earn an additional income. At this juncture, she came across Amazon’s I Have Space (IHS) program and learnt about the possibilities to scale her father’s business. She immediately enrolled in the program and this is when her entrepreneurial journey began.

The IHS program is a unique initiative that enables local store owners to partner with Amazon and add extra earnings to their regular income while also increasing footfalls to their local shops. Sunita, like many other store owners, provides pickup and delivery services to customers within a 2 -4 kilometer radius of her store.

The additional income from the program has enabled her to significantly improve her family’s financial condition and give her children the education they deserve. Sunita’s work ethic exemplifies Amazon’s leadership principles and she is known to adopt solution-oriented thinking and a customer-focused approach in all that she does.

Sunita juggles multiple roles and she continues to yearn for more. She starts her day by making deliveries and then moves on to managing the kirana store for the rest of the day.

The program is open to all store owners who have the ability to service on foot or a two-wheeler. The only requirement to be an ‘I Have Space’ partner is for the store owner to have sufficient time to make local deliveries during their off-peak hours, and space to store packages.

This story of entrepreneurship is not just about Sunita but thousands of women who want to explore their potential to be successful career women, earn a living of their own, and uplift others in the process. October 2020: Amazon India today announced the launch of its second fulfilment centre (FC) and expansion of an existing FC, in the State. With a storage capacity of more than 6 lakh cubic feet, these two fulfilment centres will help more than 70,000 sellers with access to a larger customer base. Amazon India has also expanded the capacity of an existing Sort Centre to ensure faster and reliable deliveries for customer orders in Uttar Pradesh and adjoining states. This expanded fulfilment network will generate thousands of job opportunities while offering a delightful shopping experience to the customers in Uttar Pradesh.
