P. D. Hinduja Hospital Highlights Tobacco’s Impact This World No Tobacco Day 2024

Mumbai, 31st May 2024: The detrimental effects of tobacco consumption extend beyond individual health, impacting the environment and society at large. In a poignant initiative to mark World No Tobacco Day 2024, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre created a striking installation featuring several four-foot-tall cigarettes hanging from trees by nooses. This symbolizes the pervasive impact of tobacco use on people and the environment. P.D. Hinduja Hospital seeks to create awareness and educate the public about the urgent need to quit tobacco and advocate for a healthier life and safe environment.

tabaco

According to the WHO, India is the second-largest consumer and producer of tobacco with over 270 million active users and faces significant repercussions from tobacco consumption. Annually, 1.35 million Indian lives are lost due to this habit. [1]Moreover, the tobacco industry’s global footprint includes generating over 170,000 tons of waste and deforesting 600 million trees[2]. Each tree felled produces merely enough paper for 15 packs of cigarettes. This stark reality underscores how tobacco consumption not only impacts human lives but also contributes to deforestation, soil degradation, and environmental pollution.

Mr. Gautam Khanna, CEO, of P. D. Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “On this World No Tobacco Day, let us remind ourselves of the far-reaching consequences of consuming tobacco. By highlighting the impact on both human health and the environment, we hope to inspire individuals and communities to take decisive action against tobacco use. We are committed to fostering a healthier society and a cleaner environment.”

In India, the prevalence of tobacco use remains a significant public health challenge. The Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) indicates that in India, of all adults, 28.6% currently consume tobacco either in smoked or smokeless form, including 42.4% of men and 14.2% of women. Smoking is a major contributor to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and cancer in India[3].

Dr. Lancelot Mark Pinto, Consultant Pulmonologist and Epidemiologist, P. D. Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre, shared, “Our daily interactions with patients underscore the devastating impact of tobacco consumption on health, causing respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and even cancer. This installation highlights the need for comprehensive tobacco control, addressing health and environmental concerns, to mobilise collective efforts to reduce tobacco use and promote sustainability.”

The World No Tobacco Day Installation event not only underscores the critical need for tobacco cessation but also emphasizes the importance of environmental stewardship. Through this unique and visually impactful initiative, P.D. Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre hopes to galvanize the community towards a future free from the detrimental effects of tobacco.

Malaysian Palm Oil Forum – Egypt 2024: Boosting Trade and Market Reach in North Africa

Malaysian Palm Oil Forum

Cairo, Egypt – The Malaysian Palm Oil Forum (MPOF) Egypt 2024 officially opened today in Cairo, marking the second edition of this significant event aimed at enhancing the exports of Malaysian palm oil and its derivatives in the North African region.

YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Malaysia’s Minister of Plantation and Commodities, delivered the keynote address, emphasising the critical role of Malaysian palm oil in the global market and its contributions to sustainable agribusiness.

The forum, hosted by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) in Cairo, attracted industry leaders, stakeholders, and experts from Egypt, Malaysia, and beyond, with key representatives from major Malaysian palm oil suppliers such as Wilmar International, FGV Holdings, Bursa Malaysia, Pacific Inter-Link, Alami Commodities, and Mac World Industries were also in attendance.

Egypt is a major trade partner and a significant consumer of Malaysian palm oil, making Cairo a strategic location for the forum. The aim is to expand Malaysian palm oil exports across the African continent, with Egypt serving as a pivotal hub for re-exports.

The MPOF is designed as a platform for professionals in the oils and fats industry to convene, collaborate, and form robust trade partnerships. It provides insights into the latest industry advancements and trends, featuring presentations from international experts and an exhibition where companies from Malaysia and Egypt showcase their products and services.

With the theme “Malaysian Palm Oil – Paving the Way for Sustainable Agribusiness,” the event underscores Malaysia’s commitment to sustainable practices. It also aligns with global environmental imperatives and highlights the strong bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Egypt. The Malaysian palm oil industry, contributing 23% to the global supply and generating USD 22 billion in exports last year, is crucial to Malaysia’s economy. The industry supports over 450,000 small farmers and is integral to various non-food sectors, including oleochemicals and renewable energy.

Addressing the areas of future collaboration and growth in the North African region, YB Datuk Seri Johari said, “the region offers significant opportunities for creating higher-value products from palm derivatives in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, processed foods, personal care, and consumer brands.”

Both our industry players can collaborate by forging new partnerships and building strategic alliances. These efforts will help us tap into new markets for Malaysian palm oil and further expand our presence in this region,” he added.

Commenting on the market, Ms Belvinder Sron, CEO of MPOC said, “the Egyptian palm oil market is evolving rapidly with palm oil being an economically essential and versatile edible oil crucial for both food and non-food industries. Palm oil and its derivatives are leading imported vegetable oils in Egypt with palm oil imports amounting to 1.08 million tonnes in 2023, accounting for 58% of the total oils and fats imports.”

The Malaysian Palm Oil Forum (MPOF), an initiative by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), serves as a platform for engagement between the Malaysian palm oil industry and key buyers and end-users. The forum aims to facilitate trade enhancement and explore avenues of collaboration. It targets stakeholders from other North African countries, fostering direct interactions between Malaysian palm oil suppliers and buyers. The MPOF seeks to drive innovation, form new partnerships, and explore untapped markets in Egypt and North Africa, particularly in creating higher-value products from palm derivatives.

KOGO announces its plan to build free AI agents for companies to accelerate AI adoption

India, May 31, 2024: KOGO, a deep tech AI company offering a proprietary AI OS, announced its plan to build free AI agents to accelerate AI adoption among enterprises, developers and SMEs. The company announced its plan at an event organised in association with build3, a startup studio focused on building impact-oriented startups, in Goa recently.

Praveer Kochhar, Co-Founder, KOGO

The event brought together 27 startup founders and developers from India, who learnt how to build AI agents on KOGO’s proprietary AI OS, enabling these companies to improve productivity and reduce operational expenses by 80%. The event drew startup founders, hackers and developers who are keen on AI adoption. Entrepreneurs and developers from PayTM, Workplete, Dreamio, TakeBack, Micro.Company, build3, Soulucation, The Nudge Institute, Offbeat Goa, Snapps, Organiko, and Innoshaft technologies, took part in the event and learned about small language models, and how an Ai agent can improve their productivity.

“The event organised in association with build3, was not only to help startups build AI assistants on top of KOGO’s platform, but also to educate them about small language models and how they can be very effective for specific use cases. Unlike LLMs, SLMs are modular and can be deployed on the edge. They are less expensive to run, consume less computing power and are easier to fine tune and customise to work on specific tasks,” said Raj K Gopalakrishnan, CEO & Co-Founder, KOGO. “A swarm of SLMs is the future as organisations are realising the power of self replicating experts that perform real-world tasks. We want to educate developers on how to deploy AI agents in minutes, and be at the forefront of AI adoption.”

“We hear buzzwords like generative AI, large language models and more. The real challenge lies in technology access, understanding and the resources allocated to build secure and accurate AI agents that can be deployed effectively. This is a time consuming task, so KOGO has decided to build customised AI Agents for free, to accelerate AI adoption. At the event organised in association with build3, was a huge success and great learning for all parties involved. KOGO was able to help 27 startups set up AI agents that improve workflows and minimise operational costs for startups. We want to give back to the startup ecosystem, and helping them help themselves is the best way to do it,” said Praveer Kochhar, CPO & Co-Founder of KOGO, who led the educational event in Goa.

Generative AI and LLMs have disrupted the world but for these technologies to be truly adopted by businesses, they need more than just the existing technologies to automate tasks and workflows. Adding to these challenges is that most generative AI-based solutions focus largely on customer support, leaving a wide gap in the numerous areas within an organisation where this technology can be deployed. Additionally, businesses need apps to build AI agents that work for specific use cases. KOGO is offering build customised platforms for free, so organisations can use any language model that suits their needs.

KOGO AI OS, is India’s first AI Agent OS, where businesses can build, manage and deploy millions of AI Agents within minutes. KOGO’s innovative approach empowers organisations of all sizes to deploy multiple small language models (SLMs) that function as highly intelligent domain experts. These agents operate individually and collectively as a swarm, offering agility and cost-effectiveness. More importantly, KOGO’s AI agents can perform real-world tasks unlike any other AI solution on the market. They can serve as a travel desk, a researcher, sales assistant, social media manager, business analyst, office assistant, customer support agent or any other specific domain that accelerates productivity, and improves ROI on AI investments.

Speaking about the event organised by KOGO AI and build3, Pradeep CP, Founder, Workaroo, said, “I had the opportunity to attend Praveer’s session on Building with AI agents. Traditionally, we handled KYC manually, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive. However, after the session with Praveer, I discovered that KOGO has the potential to automate these tasks, performing them 1,000 to 10,000 times faster than our manual methods. This efficiency not only promises significant time savings but also enhances accuracy and scalability. I am excited to implement Kogo.ai and witness the transformative impact it will have on our operations. Praveer and his team have developed a remarkable solution that is set to revolutionize our approach to KYC.”

“Attending Praveer’s session, the Co-Founder of Kogo, was eye-opening. I learned how AI Agents are set to automate a lot of multi-step tasks, cutting costs for companies and freeing up people’s time. The potential of AI to boost productivity in any department is incredible. What really stood out to me was how AI and humans can work together to achieve a better work-life balance, giving us more time to explore and enjoy life. I’m really excited about the future of AI after this session!,” said Aditya Gupta, Founder, On Hire.

Powerful Visual Displays Present New Ways to Create Reality
Samsung’s leading visual display technology delivers powerful production capabilities that extend reality. Production houses can use ultra-large LED walls to create virtual content, and integrate them with real-time visual effects technology to reduce the time and cost of content production.

The IVC series can amplify production quality by adding lifelike levels of texture, volume, and shades to virtual content creation environments via its ultra-low reflection LED surface. The new IVC model options – IV016C and IV021C – come with a pixel pitch of P1.68 and P2.1 respectively, a refresh rate of up to 12,288Hz as well as 1,500nits max brightness to enable high picture quality for virtual content creation. An improved cabinet structure in a 4:9 ratio allows for a curvature range that can stretch up to 5,800R, creating a more realistic field of view.

The IVC series also sports an updated genlock feature that keeps the display in line with the system’s signals, to prevent dropped or doubled frames. This capability, along with the enhanced phase offset feature that adjusts the time delay between camera and screen, helps to ensure picture perfect images.

To display colour as accurately and consistently as possible, the IVC series features 3D lookup tables (LUTs) for colour correction, wide-gamut HDR colour processing and colour adjustment between individual cabinets or modules. Furthermore, the integrated Virtual Production Management (VPM) software makes it easy for teams to manage the screen and ensure high-quality pictures in a virtual production environment, while detecting and resolving any potential LED-related issues.

Built with sustainability in mind, the IVC series has 1.5 times longer[1] LED lifetime at 150,000hr, amplifying efficiency and performance for virtual production. Designed for any studio environment, it can be hung or stacked with other screens and is protected against dust and particles, making the production of immersive content possible in a variety of different settings.

Dp World Becomes Icc Top Tier Partner to Deliver Cricket at Every Level

Dubai, UAE, 31 May 2024: DP World and the ICC have worked closely together since partnering in June 2023, helping to deliver cricket equipment at the grassroots level and provide smart logistics at pinnacle ICC events. DP World now moves into the Premier Partner tier of the ICC’s portfolio, re-affirming the brand’s long-term commitment and mission to growing the sport around the world.

DP WORLD BECOMES ICC TOP TIER PARTNER TO DELIVER CRICKET AT EVERY LEVEL

This announcement comes as anticipation builds for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where 55 matches will be held across nine host locations in the USA and West Indies from 1 – 29 June. There will be 16 group stage matches held in New York, Texas and Florida, marking the first time an ICC World Cup has been held in the United States.

DP World has already played an important role at this World Cup having provided specialist solutions to transport 10 grass pitches grown in Florida over 1,200 miles to the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York and the nearby practice venue. The pitches were developed using the specialist techniques of Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions and nurtured by US-based turf experts LandTek Group.

A fleet of over 20 vehicles transported both match and practice pitches northward on a two-day journey. Each individual pitch was meticulously prepared for transit and wrapped in order to prevent degradation enroute to New York, DP World’s advanced logistics capabilities then ensured that that the pitches at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium were transported as efficiently and sustainably as possible.

Separately, DP World has also used its unique position of having operations across 75 nations, on six continents, to develop cricket at the grassroots level through the Beyond Boundaries Initiative, a mission to empower communities through the delivery of kits and equipment via repurposed shipping containers. The initiative was launched on the eve of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, with ten kits pledged for every 100 runs scored by a team in the tournament. Over 2,500 kits have already been pledged, with 1,750 kits delivered to thousands of aspiring cricketers across India, South Africa, and the UAE.

DP World’s initiative ties-in closely with the ICC’s mission to build better cricket systems and grow the game globally, and through the expanded partnership DP World will now work closely with the governing body on the development of its criiio programme that supports and celebrates the different ways in which cricket is played around the world.

DP World Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, North Africa and India Subcontinent, Rizwan Soomar said: “The elevation of DP World’s status to ICC’s Premier Partner just ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a culmination of our unwavering focus towards supporting cricket at grassroots level and promoting the game of cricket across the world. This announcement represents an important milestone in our ongoing partnership with the ICC which was announced in June 2023. DP World and ICC have been collaborating actively since then to make cricket more inclusive and accessible by helping develop cricketing talent and making cricket enjoyable for all. The Beyond Boundaries initiative which was announced as part of the ICC and DP World partnership last year has pledged to deliver 2,500 cricket kits of which 1,750 have been delivered across South Africa, UAE, and India.

We are dedicated to deliver seamless and innovative solutions for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup leveraging our global network of logistics capabilities and solutions. Our ability to manage complex logistics, including the critical movement of pitches from Florida to New York match venues, exemplifies our expertise in smart logistics and end-to-end solutions. We are committed to ensure the success of this prestigious event and fostering the growth of cricket globally.”

DP World Chief Communications Officer, Daniel van Otterdijk said: “From the delivery of the World Cup pitches to New York, to our continued efforts to grow the game through our Beyond Boundaries initiative, DP World’s partnership with the International Cricket Council has seen us collaborate on empowering people across the world to enjoy the sport at every level. This summer’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sees the world’s most iconic players take to pitches transported by DP World’s specialist smart logistics expertise. It makes perfect sense, given all we have achieved to date, that we progress to being a Premier Partner as we continue to strive towards the growth of the game for people of all ages and backgrounds all around the world. With our operations there are no limits or boundaries to where cricket can go.”

ICC Chief Commercial Officer, Anurag Dahiya said: “DP World has been a highly supportive and active partner of the ICC, and we are very pleased with their upgrade to Premier Partner status, which highlights the significant value our partnerships bring to global brands. ICC partnerships are based on shared values, and DP World has consistently shown a strong commitment to growing the game at every level globally. The ICC is proud to continue our journey at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and beyond, confident that working with industry experts like DP World makes expanding cricket to new regions and audiences much easier.”

DP World will proudly deliver the match ball for each of the 55 games at this World Cup, as well as presenting the Trophy Tour that brings the silverware to the event. The partnership continues for the next four years and will include October’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later this year.
