She has taken it upon herself to showcase Telangana as the best destination for opportunities and investments.

The state is not just competing with sister states in India, but is also competing with countries of our size. Please come forward and invest in the state. You will have minimal government intervention in your affairs. Last year the Telangana state got Rs 20,000 crore investments. This year we have already signed MoUs worth Rs 40,000 crore in investments.

Jayesh Ranjan asked why tech companies prefer Hyderabad and Telangana. It is because of the talent pool. When I say this, it doesn’t mean that other cities don’t have. We compete with cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, and Gurgaon. When compared to these cities our talent pool proved more productive, work-minded, and lived up to their deliverability. This was proven again during the pandemic. They proved to be a more responsible workforce. This was observed by many CEOs and they told us. The workforce here takes up challenges and lives up to those challenges. The attrition rate in Hyderabad is 6-7% lower compared to Bengaluru and the cost of acquiring talent is 15% lower.

The main driver of the tech industry is innovation. When I say these other cities are also doing well in terms of innovation and even better than us. But what makes this city apart from the rest is the innovation ecosystem and the state-of-the-art centres of excellence and innovation hubs, Jayesh Ranjan added.

We will continue the progress of the state. Policies of the previous government/s if good will be better and continued.

TS Govt rolled out AI for AI(Agriculture Innovations) aimed at digital technology-led agriculture innovations, Jayesh Ranjan told Data and AI for Social Good specialists from all over the world

Telangana is one of the first two states in India to have an Open Data Policy after Sikkim. The policy which came into being four years back puts the responsibility on Government, institutions and other stakeholders Jayesh Ranjan informed a group of Data Scientists and Data Professionals gathered virtually from all over the world at the inauguration of 2nd Virtual Indo Data Week being organised from Hyderabad.

The theme of the two-day meeting is “Applied Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”, informed Parvathy Krishnan of DAV Data Solutions, the organiser welcoming the gathering.

DAV Data Solutions chose Hyderabad for Indo Data Week because of supportive and collaborative governments, its fast adaption of a new wave of technologies and their proactive approach and positive response from the stakeholders she said.

The conference features more than 40 speakers from all over the globe. Speakers and delegates from organisations such as World Bank, Pulse Lab Jakarta, Emerging Technologies Wing — Government of Telangana, National Health Authority — Government of India, startups and innovation hubs, Impact Scientist, Knowledge Exchange Innovation Center Thailand, FluxGen Technologies, research and academia such as Jheronimus Academy of Data Science, Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad, and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad are participating

Addressing the 60 plus gathering, the top IT official of the Government of Telangana, Jayesh appreciated the organiser DAV Data Solutions for organising the event despite the current situation. He congratulated Parvathy Krishnan and her youth and intern-lead event team for organising quality deliberations on such a very important subject

The theme is extremely aligned with the Telangana Government’s plans. Though there is so much knowledge and Data is available but we are unable to put it to use to the extent desired for the benefit of the communities he said.

Speaking further Jayesn Ranjan added the need to seriously look at soil health. How do we protect soil health? He asked. Farmlands are shrinking due to urbanisation. Agriculture is very important for a Telangana state. Since January 2020, the year is being observed as Year of Artificial Intelligence(AI) in the state to promote its use in various sectors ranging from urban transportation and healthcare to agriculture and others. We have achieved a lot during the past 11 months. We have been focusing on Agriculture and within in it on Data Sets. We have created many Data Sets in the state covering reports on weather and agriculture prices, location of market yards etc, Jayesh shared with the delegates of Indo Data Week.

AI has to be effectively used for social innovation. Modern farmers have to be digital farmers. We at the government embarked on AI for AI(Artificial Intelligence for Agriculture Innovation). Telangana Government uses AI for Agricultural Innovation.

AI for AI program is already rolled out to boost agricultural developments. Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, India (C4IR), World Economic Forum and State-owned Agriculture University partners besides others. Agriculture is a very important domain and we at government aim at digital technology-led agriculture innovations. Through this initiative, we aim to identify the high impact use cases of AI which could benefit both farmers and policymakers, Jayesh Ranjan added

He batted for Data-Driven Agriculture. For better farm performance, Data-Driven decision-making is need of the hour, Jayesh observed. It can be used for the Sowing Window Prediction. Target that window, which, data can guide us. Crops attract pests, you can predict the pests attack. The opportunities for farmers is endless. Data can be used in Planning, Forecasting, Selecting Crops and many. Multiple areas in Agriculture can use Data predictive tools which help officials better prepared, the IT Principal Secretary explained.

But there is a challenge to the Data. State-owned Agriculture University is creating a Data Hub and standardising it along with other partners. Dept of Science and Technology, Govt of India supporting us on this. We are also collaborating with IIIT-H. Our government believes in Democratisation of Data. That is why we come out with Open Data policy as latest as in the year 2016 Jayesh Ranjan informed.

Indo Data Week began on 16th November and will conclude on 22nd with a global Hackathon on “Climate Resilient Food Security in India” and winners will walk away with INR 0ne lakh prize money. It is supported and sponsored by the Government of Telangana.

New Education Policy (NEP-2020)- a game changer for Telangana” held

Hyderabad, September 20, 2020….. FICCI-Telangana State Council, in association with Government of Telangana, Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) organised an online interactive session “NEW EDUCATION POLICY (NEP-2020)- A GAME CHANGER FOR TELANGANA” here in the city on Saturday.

The interaction saw 5 parallel sessions, 23 speakers and lasted for 215 minutes. Each plenary session gave five actionable recommendations which FICCI will present them to the government for their consideration.

The concluding session was moderated by Mr T. Muralidharan, Chairman of FICCI Telangana State Council and Chairman of TMI Group

The Union government’s New Education Policy 2020 brings about several major reforms in education in India and we at FICCI Telangana State Council are here to see how this could be a game-changer for the state? How Telangana will emerge as global Educational Hub? said T. Muralidharan

Speaking on the occasion Sangeetha Reddy, FICCI national president termed NEP 2020 as progressive and commended all policymakers. FICCI has played a very important role in a dialogue with stakeholders prior to forming up the policy. She termed the policy as equitable, inclusive, accessible, exploratory and experimental.

The question in front of policymakers is how do we make our students more resilient?, how do we prepare for the job which has not taken birth? she asked.

Introduce lifelong learning. Incorporate science and technology into every aspect of life. Science and technology is going to be transformative. Integrate vocation education into the early part of student life, said Sangeeta.

Telangana needs a couple of global Universities. We are proud of ISB. UNDP estimates that the financial requirement for India to reach SDG goals by the year 2030, US $ 2000 Billion or 200 Billion US $ a year which is far beyond our government budget which is 76 billion US $. That is why we need to channelise private investments in education sector Dr Sangeetha said.

I don’t know if Telangana State could set up the National Science Foundation, making it a core body for serious interaction with industry, Dr Sangeeta added.

Naveen Mittal, Commissioner Collegiate Education, Govt of Telangana said he is upbeat about the future of the education in the backdrop of National Education Policy. Speaking at the session he gave his few points for the better future of Higher Education in Telangana. He said we must encourage more private investments in our Universities. Encourage funding of Public Universities in Research. He cited an example of Rusa Project taken up by Osmania University. It is an INR 100 crore project. We need to bring in more flexibility. Currently, Universities are very rigid about giving flexible options to students. This should go away. He spoke about blended learning which is need of the hour.

Director, NIT Warangal, Prof NV Ranga Rao said given the 21st-century requirements, Telangana Higher Education must aim to develop good, thoughtful, well rounded and creative individuals. It must enable an individual to study and also develop intellectual curiosity, scientific temper, creativity, a spirit of service.

Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Govt of Telangana participating in the discussion suggested three fundamental reforms —Teacher Training, moving away from exam-based learning system and increase industry participation.

Jayesh said Telangana formed on a fundamental premise that its youth will get more jobs. But for the surprise when checked, just 10% of Telangana students were employed in 1400 plus IT companies and rest of them were from outside the state. There were many reasons including lack of employable skills and the widened gap between industry and academia. That is when TASK was set up to train youth to get employable skills, he shared.

Some of the actionable recommendations made by five panels include: Increase Government investment in Higher Education; introduce globally relevant research, promote agile leadership, brand Telangana, produce globally acceptable graduates, train teachers in digital infrastructure, introduce deep tech programs for higher-value employment, start startup incubations in each college and university, private-sector research funding and go for meaningful collaborations and set up clusters of Universities, delink affiliations, make migration between colleges and universities seamless etc are the few recommendations made.

Many speakers felt that new reforms would transform the lives of millions of Indians. The new educational policy is said to be paving way for transformational reforms in school and higher education sector in the country.

The New Education Policy (NEP) when implemented, will revolutionize the Indian Education System. It looks well-structured and seems to have captured most of the important aspects of education. Built on the foundational pillars of Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability and Accountability, this NEP is aligned to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and aims to transform India into a vibrant knowledge society and global knowledge superpower by making both school and college education more holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, suited to 21st century needs and aimed at bringing out the unique capabilities of each student. It will make our students globally competitive and also has the potential to make India a global hub for Education.

The Interactive session was planned in this backdrop. It was structured as:

– Plenary Session on ‘Making Telangana A Global Higher Education Hub’

– 3 Parallel Sessions on

* Blended Learning

* Achieving Sustainability in Higher Education space

* Student Outcomes for Building Quality Resource Pool

The key takeaways of the parallel sessions will be presented in the Concluding Session.
