Hyderabad, November 12th, 2024…..The 30th Indian Plumbing Conference, the largest-ever gathering of the Plumbing industry, will be held in the city this month from November 21st to 23rd at Hitex.

The theme of the conference will be Water-The New Currency

The theme emphasizes water’s vital role in sustainability and climate action, promoting initiatives like Green Credits and Water Credits to support India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. This conference aims to enhance water management, inspire innovation, and foster economic resilience by encouraging water-efficient technologies and aligning with national carbon reduction targets.

The conference will be organized by the 31-year-old Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), an NGO and an apex body of plumbing professionals in India.

Shri D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce, Government of Telangana will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, and Shri Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, will be the guest of honour.

The Keynote Speaker will be Mr. Søren Nørrelund Kannik-Marquardsen, Commercial Counsellor, Head of the Trade Council New Delhi & Regional Coordinator for South Asia, Embassy of Denmark in India

1500 plus delegates from across India and abroad will participate. Eighty exhibitors to showcase their products and services. More than 8000 visitors are expected to visit the conference cum expo.

The conference will have knowledge-sharing sessions on water management in built spaces such as Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, and others.

Elaborating on how significant this conference is to Hyderabad Sanjay Bhilare, Chairman of the Hyderabad Chapter said it has blooming and robust real estate recording rapid growth. Infrastructure projects are flourishing, and there is a need for robust plumbing systems, water, waste management, recycling of treated water, and rainwater harvesting. Good plumbing not only ensures the longevity of our buildings but also enhances the quality of life for residents and communities, he added.

We will launch the Telugu version of ‘A Guide to Good Plumbing Practices’. It will be a Plumbing Engineering handbook, Sanjay said.

By 2030, India will have less than half of the total water demand. As per a NITI Aayog report, by then India will be able to supply 744 billion cubic meters of water against a demand for 1,498 billion cubic meters — a shortfall of over 50 percent. In recent incidences, we have seen Bengaluru and Chennai experiencing Day 0, Gurmit Singh, National President of IPA added.

“Day Zero” is the situation when a city’s water supply is almost completely depleted. When “Day Zero” is reached, taps run dry, and municipalities may enforce water restrictions and rations, Gurmit Singh, the Past National Chairman of the Indian Green Building Council. He is an expert on water conservation and reclamation. His domain knowledge includes achieving water use efficiency, water treatment, wastewater treatment, water refining, sewerage treatment, protection and preservation of water bodies, water audits, plumbing methods, and practices.

In the domestic water sector, the loss of water on account of leakages in mains, communication, and service pipes and valves is approximately 30 to 40% of the total flow in the distribution system, he added

India’s Increasing Water Footprint

Virtual Water Trade: India’s water footprint is also linked to the virtual water embedded in the goods it imports and exports. For instance, exports of water-intensive goods, such as rice, cotton, and sugar, indirectly lead to water depletion in regions that produce them, even if those regions are not consuming the water directly.

Exporting Water through Agriculture: India exports millions of tons of rice annually, which has a huge virtual water cost. 1 kg of rice requires around 3,000 liters of water to produce. Thus, India is, in a sense, exporting water to other nations through its agricultural exports, even as it faces its water crises.

Water as an Economic Asset: Like money, water has intrinsic value. Its availability or scarcity can directly influence local economies, trade, and livelihoods. Communities that effectively manage water can gain a competitive edge.

Necessity of Reuse: As demand for water increases and sources become strained, water reuse and recycling are no longer optional—they are critical to sustainability.

Circular Economy Approach: Treating water as a “resource to be reused” fits well within the circular economy model, where the goal is to maximize the utility of resources—water being a prime example.

Plumbing’s Role in Water Efficiency

Plumbing Innovations: Advanced plumbing systems, such as low-flow fixtures, sensor-operated taps, smart water metering, and efficient pipe networks, are essential to both reduce water wastage and enable reuse.

Leak Detection and Prevention: Plumbing systems can be equipped with leak detection technology to prevent water loss, which accounts for a significant amount of water wastage in urban infrastructure.

Awareness and Best Practices: Plumbing professionals and the industry at large must play an educational role, in promoting water-efficient practices to the public and industries.

Hyderabad, May 20, 2024….We are here for a change. Our government is sincerely trying to bring in changes on all fronts in the state, said D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT, Govt of Telangana while addressing a gathering of Facility Managers at the 10th Green Annual FM Summit 2024 on Friday late night at the Address Convention in Narsingi in the city.

The Minister was invited to be the chief guest at the summit of Facility Managers organised by decade old Telangana Facility Managers Council (TFMC).

Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that the firm foundation for the IT and ITES industry was laid in 1992 and since then in the past three decades, it has witnessed exponential growth. Over the years a beautiful ecosystem was also developed. We all are proud of our IT Industry. Our government came into power five months ago and in between, we have a poll code of conduct. The Chief Minister of the state Mr. Revanth Reddy has been working 24×7 for the past three months to fulfil the dreams of the people which were not realised during the previous government ruling.

Speaking about the IT industry in the state, D. Sridhar Babu said, we are working to bring the best brains back to Telangana. Our IT industry is at the number two position now and we would like to see it at a number one position. The Y2K Bug was the turning point for the software industry. Now AI (Artificial Intelligence) is another such moment. Chief Minister wants Telangana to take a lead, and it is his vision. We want Hyderabad positioned as the ‘AI capital of India’. It is our earnest desire to see Hyderabad as an AI City. We want to see Hyderabad as the most happening city for AI activity. We would like to see the city as a house for AI research. Who is who of the AI world must work from here, and more and more AI products and services be developed from here. Telangana would like to set up a dedicated Artificial Intelligence City. We have already allocated 200 acres of land to position Hyderabad as India’s ‘AI capital’. The AI City will be a city for tomorrow’s work. We will certainly require the services of TFMC (Telangana Facility Management Council), he added

AI is expected to capture every breadth of human life soon. We would like to take an early lead to be at the forefront of that technological development. Aiming for technology-driven growth, the Telangana government plans to host the AI Global Summit in Hyderabad in July, the Minister revealed. We will see that many AI intellectuals from across the globe take part in the Summit. The Telangana government will absorb AI into its governance, Sridhar Babu added.

Another important step and the most ambitious project we are looking at is the setting up of a Skill University in August this year. It will be on par with the best of the best global institutions. It is going to be another landmark like ISB for the city of Hyderabad. By doing so we would like to fill the gap between industry and academia that exists now. Right now we are finalising the modalities. However, we welcome suggestions, and professional expertise from experts on its constitution, modalities, policy frameworks etc, D. Sridhar Babu said

Later TFMC presented the Social Excellence Awards and the Green Awards. The Social Excellence Awards were presented to a couple of traffic cops.

Followed by this a Handloom Ramp walk was organised where facility management professionals from 21 IT companies both men and women sporting handloom garments walked on the ramp. The purpose behind such a ramp walk which has been an annual feature of FM Summit each year was to encourage people wear handloom clothes at least once a week so that the poor weavers get encouragement.

Facility management (FM) is a profession that improves business and lives by ensuring functionality, comfort, safety, and efficiency of the built environment and is practised by 25 million people around the world, said Telangana Facilities Management Council (TFMC)’s President, Satyanarayana Mathala

The summit focused on future technology and AI Practices which every Facility Manager will use in the next 10 years.

Hexagon delivers Reality Technology for Smart Cities with a data-rich digital twin of the Qutub Shahi Tombs

India, 14 February 2024: Hexagon, the global leader in reality technology, today presented a data-rich digital twin of the Qutub Shahi Tombs to the government of Telangana. This digital twin of the 16th-century heritage site is a proof-of-concept of Hexagon’s Reality Technology for Smart Cities capabilities. Hexagon is committed to advancing smart city technologies and supporting the preservation of historic landmarks through advanced digital innovation.

During a ceremony at the Tombs’ lawns, Paolo Guglielmini, President and CEO of Hexagon, presented the data-rich digital twin of the historical site to the Principal Secretary of I&C & IT Departments, Shri Jayesh Ranjan. The event was attended by dignitaries from the departments of IT, Industries & Commerce, Urban Development, and Culture & Heritage and members of the media.

Hexagon brought together its suite of cutting-edge software and hardware technologies, including 3D scanning, geospatial mapping, and reality capture to generate 10.7 billion data points for the creation of the digital representation of the landmark. The team utilized award-winning devices including Leica BLK2FLY, an autonomous flying drone equipped with a LiDAR scanner, along with the BLK2GO, and RTC 360, capable of capturing an astounding 2 million points per second. The GS18i complemented these devices for geo-referencing the point cloud.

In the final stage, Hexagon’s digital-reality platform HxDR applied advanced AI solutions to stitch together a point-cloud mesh and data-rich actionable digital twin. The new digital version of the historic site enables data-driven decision-making, real-time analytics, visualizations, and simulations.

Some of the prominent ones of the 12-member delegation were JAB Holdings (they own all the large coffee brands like Peets Coffee, Krispy Kreme and Pret), Whitestone Capital, Metaplanet holding (Founder of Skype) and Bjella Investments from Norway. The combined holdings of just these 4 Family offices are over $100B in assets under management.

The round table was the initiative of the Government of Telangana, NAR Infra Pvt. Ltd and Prasad Vanga, CEO and Founder of Anthill Venture, a Speed Scaling Ecosystem that invests in, and scales, early-stage companies in Media, Urban Tech and Health Tech. Prasad Vanga is a successful entrepreneur, angel investor and business transformation coach.

Anthill Ventures has invited the delegation to Hyderabad, and Parvathi Reddy seized the opportunity to get the government involved and showcase Telangana as an investment potential state. Speaking on the occasion D. Sridhar Babu said Telangana is the youngest but the best state in terms of human capital, infrastructure, proactive government and in ease of doing business. The state is not just competing with sister states in India, but is also competing with countries of our size. Please come forward and invest in the state. You will have minimal government intervention in your affairs. Last year the Telangana state got Rs 20,000 crore investments. This year we have already signed MoUs worth Rs 40,000 crore in investments.

Jayesh Ranjan asked why tech companies prefer Hyderabad and Telangana. It is because of the talent pool. When I say this, it doesn’t mean that other cities don’t have. We compete with cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, and Gurgaon. When compared to these cities our talent pool proved more productive, work-minded, and lived up to their deliverability. This was proven again during the pandemic. They proved to be a more responsible workforce. This was observed by many CEOs and they told us. The workforce here takes up challenges and lives up to those challenges. The attrition rate in Hyderabad is 6-7% lower compared to Bengaluru and the cost of acquiring talent is 15% lower.

The main driver of the tech industry is innovation. When I say these other cities are also doing well in terms of innovation and even better than us. But what makes this city apart from the rest is the innovation ecosystem and the state-of-the-art centres of excellence and innovation hubs, Jayesh Ranjan added.

We will continue the progress of the state. Policies of the previous government/s if good will be better and continued.
