Amity University Haryana Develops Nano Breath- Covid-19 Mask with 99% Covid Safety

Gurugram: At a time when the Covid Pandemic is continuing to cause a serious concern for its recurrence in new mutations like Delta plus, the scientists at Amity Institute of Nano Science and Nano Technology have designed and developed a nano particle coated N-95 mask that has the capacity to filter 99% harmful microbes and pathogens. The mask comprises of a series of nano particle coated protective filters installed in the mask jacket that effectively kill any microbes entering into the nose or mouth. The protective mask code names ‘Nano Breath’ is developed using a 3D printed silicon material that is washable, odorless and nonallergic and has a long life. “Masks like these are of great value to the Industry workers, warehouse workers and frontline warriors such as Doctors and health workers, police personnel, journalists and media professionals who remain in the crowded areas and require effective protection from Covid like viruses and pathogens” says Dr Atul Thakur, Director, Amity Institute of Nano Science and Technology at Amity University Haryana, Gurugram.

First of its kind National Quantum Science and Technology Symposium

Hyderabad: The National Quantum Science and Technology Symposium (NQSTS), organized by IIIT Hyderabad, Quantum Ecosystems Technology Council of India, IEEE Quantum Initiative, in association with PSA, Govt of India is being held online from 26 July – 3 August 2021.

Through talks delivered by some of India’s best quantum experts from government, academia and industry, the symposium will cover diverse aspects of the field and provide an overview of the scope and impact of quantum computing in India.

NQSTS launched the Quantum Ecosystems and Technology Council of India ( QETCI), headed by Reena Dayal which will work closely with various members of quantum ecosystems across government, academia, industry, startups and investors to accelerate the quantum ecosystem in India.

The symposium features several eminent keynote speakers – Prof Vijay Raghavan, PSA to Govt of India; Prof K Sivan, Chairman ISRO; Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary MEITY; Dr KR MuraliMohan, Mission Director NM-ICPS, DST; Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, IC&T Govt of Telangana and Prof P J Narayanan, Director IIIT Hyderabad. It also includes several keynote speakers from Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, QNU Labs, TCS and IQM.

Speaking at the inauguration, Prof P J Narayanan, Director, IIITH said, “Quantum computing is a truly futuristic area with huge potential that we must invest in today to reap benefits in the near future.

IIIT Hyderabad had recognized the importance of this area and started research in related areas about 10 years. Our group today has 6 faculty members with mix of expertise in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc. We have a productive group consisting of Masters, PhD, as well as B.Tech students conducting research on different aspects of quantum computing, producing papers in journals and conferences, etc. To give greater push to this area, we have formed a Centre for Quantum Science & Technology (CQST) and hope to develop it into a major national and international player in the area of Quantum Information Sciences, from creating quantum computers to developing quantum computing models to quantum algorithms and their applications to various areas like Healthcare, Sciences, Machine Learning, etc. It is only natural that IIIT Hyderabad stay ahead in these areas for years to come, just as we have done in other areas of computing and communications”.

Prof K Sivan, Chairman ISRO said, “India will be quantum-enabled in this decade. We will infuse the encryption of the satellite data with the power of quantum mechanics”.

Sale of plots picking up pace, likely to breach 2020 mark sooner

According to insider reports, the number of plots sold since 2019 has been declining; however, this year, the progress has been good and plots’ sale is likely to breach the 2020 figures at the end of the second half of 2021. Realty experts say that the in 2020 the sale of plots came down to 50% compared to 2019, but post pandemic the situation has improved with people coming out invest in plots from end-user perspective as well as investors.

“The market is booming, and based on the flow of people, it’s worth noting that having a plot near a financial centre can help you earn a good return. Although prices are now low, they are expected to rise as the economy recovers from a major setback caused by the COVID issue. The flow of people towards places with the best health facilities and work possibilities will increase, and these metros will become goldmines for those who have purchased plots,” says Prateek Mittal, Executive Director, Sushma Group.

Realtors feel that the increased sale of plots attests that post-pandemic people have started looking for independent pieces of land where they can spend a healthy and secure life. The plots launched by reputed developers are the first choice as they add credibility and promise a better lifestyle in gated communities. Throwing light on the trend of plotted developments, Dhiraj Jain, Director, Mahagun Group, says “Many reputable developers are now active in plotted development projects across the country, and demand has always been strong. Builder-planned communities provide the infrastructure needed to begin living and offer a good return on a patient long-term investment.”

Real estate brokers say that more than 11,000 units were launched in the first half of 2021 in top cities compared to around 16,000 in 2020. Maximum units were launched in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad; the Delhi NCR market witnessed the launch of more than 600 units in the first half compared to around 1100 in 2019. “Plotted development investment is a time-honoured tradition in India, and COVID-19 has bolstered demand for plotted development as a long-term investment. Buyers are looking for developments like this in gated communities to expand on and utilise as separate residences. Plotted developments by well-known developers are constantly in demand, and they promise a solid return on investment. The value proposition, however, is dependent on the geography and infrastructure,” adds Ashok Gupta, CMD, Ajnara India Ltd.

Buyers have long been torn between living in an apartment or on separate floors; the dilemma is deciding between having your patio and sharing utilities with others. “However, having a yard in a metropolis is a pipe dream due to land scarcity and high prices. As a result, developers are launching a slew of plotted development projects in Metro’s outskirts; these projects prove to be rather popular, especially in the post-pandemic age, when people crave more space. Authorities plots are always safe; if a private developer is launching a planned development project, one should always choose reputable developers,” says Vikas Garg, Deputy MD, MRG World.

XLRI Celebrates 65th Annual Convocation

XLRI – Xavier School of Management, one of India’s premier B-Schools, celebrated its 65th Annual Convocation. The virtual Convocation ceremony was held to bid a final farewell to the 2019-21 batch.

Mr. Sandeep Kataria, Global CEO, Bata Corporation, graced the convocation ceremony as the chief guest. Mr. T. V. Narendran, Chairman, Board of Governors at XLRI & MD – Tata Steel India and South East Asia, Fr. Paul Fernandes. S.J., Director of XLRI, Dr. Ashis K. Pani, Dean, Academics at XLRI, graduating students, and their parents connected virtually.

On this significant day, 506 XLRI students virtually received their graduating certificates and medals, including – 178 & 181 students of Postgraduate Programmes in Management – BM, and HRM; 101 students of 15-months PGDM (General Management) Program; 06 students of Fellow Program in Management (FPM) and 40 students of the 2018–2021 batch of PGDM-BM Programme (Evening).

On the occasion Mr. T. V. Narendran, Chairman, Board of Governors, XLRI, in his address said, “It is indeed a privilege for me to witness the 65th Convocation ceremony as the Chairman of the Governing Board of XLRI. Congratulating the students on their graduation day, Mr. Narendran said,” It is rare that we come across multiple large challenges in such a short period – a life-threatening pandemic, climate weirding as a consequence of climate change and an economic downturn. Fr. Paul Fernandes. S.J., Director, XLRI, congratulated the graduating students and advised them to uphold the values they have imbibed at XLRI – to be responsible leaders who are extraordinary professionals with a sensitive conscience. In his address, he said, “It is indeed my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all of you. This is the second time the convocation is being held virtually due to COVID restrictions. This year XLRI conferred the prestigious ‘Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace’ on Sandeep Kataria, Global CEO, Bata Corporation. He also delivered the convocation address.

Accepting the medal, Mr. Kataria said, “I am truly humbled and feel privileged to accept the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace. I want to express my gratitude to the governing board of XLRI for bestowing on me the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace. While any recognition is a privilege, one received from the alma mater is truly special. I am told that I am the first alumni to be bestowed upon this honor – and while I humbly accept this esteemed medal, I am sure there are many more deserving alumni members. We will be seeing more familiar names on this list soon”.

Delivering the convocation speech to the graduating students, he said, “Hearty congratulations as you graduate from this prestigious and outstanding institution. Despite the challenges that the pandemic has thrown at you, I am sure through your hard work and innovativeness, along with ample help from the hard-working faculty members, you have grown tremendously. You are ready to take on the new normal of this VUCA world. As you step out with the tremendous education that XLRI has given you, you will have the privilege to work in large and illustrious organizations with lots of smart people. At the beginning of your career, you may feel intimidated by all the seniors around you. Remember to speak up and be heard, as you will undoubtedly add a useful perspective and enrich the discussion. Never let the small voice in your head hold you back. As you grow and lead big teams, you will often be called to take the final decision. But again, remember to pause, listen and learn from the whole team before you decide. Leadership is anything but doing the popular thing. It is about doing the right thing AND taking people along. One thing that I can promise you all today is that there are going to be ups and downs in your careers. As surely as you will have the highs, wins, successes, and lots to celebrate, you will also have the misses and lows. Remember to take both in your stride, keeping your eyes on doing the best that you can without a sense of victimization or entitlement”.

Addressing the graduating students in his speech ‘Reimagining Our Future,’ Mr. Kataria said, “you are graduating at an amazing moment in time for the Global Economy and especially India. I am not referring just to the pandemic, which has impacted almost everything over the last 15 months. There are worries about the pandemic, probably the most significant world event of our lifetime. It has managed to touch everyone in a most personal way and unarguably pushed back the world economy and people 5 to 10 years. But with the innovativeness and ingenuity of the human race that has been displayed over the last 15 months, I believe we will soon have medical worries behind us. When I look at the future with optimism, I refer to the inevitable rise of the new order, a new normal, an opportunity to recast many of the notions that we have taken for granted over the last 50 years and provide an opportunity like never before. Combined with the continuing changes in the geopolitical map of the world and the triple disruption of technology, global warming, and markets that have been gathering pace over the last decade, we will see significant changes in the workplace within your career spans”.

The fitness industry, particularly gyms have been hard hit by the pandemic. The industry, which was gradually recovering after the first wave, has been again pushed to slowdown by the second wave. However, the gym category has been witnessing a sharp rise in month on month leads generated on Indiamart. The total leads generated in the relevant gym category from Jun’20 to May’21 are 10.2 lakhs.

Grand Slam Fitness Pvt Ltd, a chain of fitness stores, has reiterated key trends and consumer behaviour during a year long period ending May 2021 through its recently published report. The brand has revealed key trends and consumer behaviour observed during Jun’20-May’21. The report focuses on evolving trends in the gym industry – overall as well as geography-wise during the above-mentioned period.

Highlights of the report are as follows:

· “Motorised Treadmill” is the top searched keyword and top product categories. The total leads generated are more than 1.2 lakhs. This is followed by “Multi Gym”, “Gym Equipment”, “Exercise Treadmill” and so on.

· Total leads generated at IndiaMART level in the relevant gym category of Grand Slam Fitness – 10.2 lakhs.

· The number of leads which was at its highest in July’20 (154.7 thousand) was experiencing a sharp decline thereafter. However, the trend paced up in Jan’21 and has been rising ever since. The total leads generated in May’21 are 95.4 thousand.

· In geography-wise split of enquiries, Uttar Pradesh tops the list of states followed by Maharashtra, Delhi, Bihar and so on.

· Top 10 cities according to leads generated are Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ghaziabad, Pune, Meerut, Jamshedpur, Jammu, Thane and Jind.

“Commercial Treadmill” (buy leads: 454 and enquiries & calls: 218) is the top category in Grand Slam Fitness’ Lead Analytics Report till May’21. This is followed by “Gym Equipment”, “Gym Setup Services” and so on. Further, Delhi tops the list of cities in geography-wise split of Grand Slam leads. Other top performing cities are Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad etc. The leads analytics for Grand Slam is based on the last 90 days data.
