PayNearby launches NeoDukaan; aims to modernize 100 MN retailers by 2025

New Delhi, 31 August 2021: In its bid to mass modernize the retail sector across the country, PayNearby, India’s leading branchless banking and digital payments network, has associated with Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India (RASCI) to launch “PayNearby NeoDukaan” to digitally upgrade its retail partners and gear them towards a better livelihood. PayNearby NeoDukaan is a first-of-its-kind holistic store management tool aimed at digitizing the retail stores and accelerating digital adoption at the last mile. With multiple digital payment options, digital ledger for credit management and online wholesale procurement options, PayNearby NeoDukaan looks to create a thriving ecosystem for its retail partners by empowering them digitally and bringing them at par with the current times.

In India, retail is evolving, retailers are not. Retail is India’s largest industry, accounting for over 10% of the country’s GDP and 8% of employment, however, despite its large size, the sector has remained predominantly unorganized due to the presence of local stores and vendors. To win in this changing landscape, the local retailers need to change too. To be indispensable to the consumer, local retailers must constantly update to accommodate their various needs. And, PayNearby is completely transforming the retail outlets and making them future-ready. The company has enabled more than 38+ lakh retailers across 17, 600+ PIN codes to have a strong online presence and ensures that small and local shops are not left behind in the transforming digital world.

Echoing this sentiment is PayNearby’s latest business vertical – the NeoDukaan app. This store management package is an end-to-end comprehensive suite that exclusively focuses on helping retailers modernize their stores, simplify their lives and bring them at par with the times. With this app, PayNearby intends to make retailers future-proof and take them to the level where they can compete with the e-commerce giants and large format superstores. PayNearby NeoDukaan enables stores to go online with a single click and service customers in their neighborhood and beyond to avail the digital store at their convenience. With this platform, PayNearby aims to digitally empower the local retailers in India whilst enhancing their efficiency and opportunities to serve their customers better.

Today, it is crucial for all stores to have digital formats of digital payments. This all-new platform will enable retailers to offer wide-ranging payment options such as UPI QR, Aadhaar Pay, mPOS and SoftPOS to the customers in the local community. Besides being cost-effective and easily implementable, retailers will not lose customers due to limited payment options and will be able to offer digital financial services seamlessly. PayNearby NeoDukaan will help retailers provide a slew of choices to their customers and will help accelerate digital adoption in the country, especially among the underbanked spectrum, reducing the demand for cash and cash-led transactions. Besides, in the wake of COVID, it will enable customers to make safe, contactless payments too. NeoDukaan, thus, aims to democratize digital payments, ensuring the availability of form factor agnostic transactions at the last mile such that digital payments become as seamless as exchanging cash.

In the majority of Tier II, Tier III cities and beyond, most of the daily businesses run on credit. Retailers end up breaking their backs to maintain a physical ledger and spending long hours on reconciliation. While retailers are used to traditional bookkeeping by maintaining bahi-khatas, NeoDukaan will help them manage customer credits more efficiently with ‘Customer Khata’ – a digital ledger. Besides offering enhanced security, Customer Khata will help retailers to go digital, streamline their accounts and reconcile better. With Customer Khata, retailers can record all transactions digitally, set automatic payment reminders for customers – so that they can collect the dues on time, and view customized reports too.

Moreover, many small businesses do not have a good supply management. They often end up shelling out exorbitant prices for supplies that are way beyond the wholesale rates, incurring losses. To help with this, PayNearby NeoDukaan will also function as an aggregator platform, whereby retailers can easily access various wholesale procurement alternatives such as Big Basket, ITC, Unnati etc. all in one spot. Currently, no other player offers multiple wholesale procurement options on a unified platform. Besides operational efficiency, the app will enable retailers to digitally procure goods timely and at competitive prices.

Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Anand Kumar Bajaj, Founder, MD & CEO, PayNearby, remarked, “We are thrilled to present the PayNearby NeoDukaan app to help our retail partners grow non-stop in life. Retailing in India is one of the pillars of our socio-economic structure, with retailers having deep-rooted relationships in the local communities. For India to thrive and grow, it is important that the retailers are given the necessary support and tools to stay relevant in the fast-evolving economy. PayNearby NeoDukaan is one such effort committed to enabling financial inclusiveness and the economic wellbeing of the retailers.

As the word ‘neo’ denotes transformation, PayNearby NeoDukaan will be a game-changer for the mass retail community offering them opportunities to acquire new customers, engage better with existing customers and reduce the cost of operations. This will further accelerate the growth of the digital economy even across hinterlands and remote towns whilst making ‘Digital India’ a closer reality. PayNearby NeoDukaan will transform every shop in the country into a shop ready for a new era.

As an organization, PayNearby acknowledges the deep symbiotic relationship it has with the retailer community, and with PayNearby NeoDukaan, we want to assure the progress of our retailers. Our association with RASCI will ensure that our retail partners have all they need to get ahead in life. This is our ‘Zidd Aage Badhne Ki’. A ‘Zidd’ to make every shop in Bharat modern, digitally-empowered and future-ready.”

On the occasion, James A. Raphael Executive Head – Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India (RASCI) and Joint Central Apprenticeship Adviser – Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (GOI) said, “PayNearby is paving the way to bridge the gulf of Bharat and India. NeoDukaan is a committed stride towards the digital empowerment of local retail at the last mile. It will position Indian retailers at the forefront of a new consumption economy whilst offering a huge stimulus to the ‘Digital India’ movement. This digital transition will usher in a new era of commerce, transform ‘job seekers’ into ‘job creators’ and will create millions of livelihood opportunities in the hinterlands and small towns thereby driving economic growth and social upliftment in the real Bharat.”

Additionally, the company has set an ambitious target of on-boarding 100 million retailers by 2025. PayNearby NeoDukaan is designed to bring a completely new set of retailers into the PayNearby fold.

Softline Helps Moscow Finance and Law University Reinvent its Educational Workflows Based on the Microsoft Teams Online Platform

LONDON, United Kingdom – August 31, 2021 – The Softline team has helped the university reinvent their learning workflows with the Microsoft Teams collaboration platform while maintaining local infrastructure.

In the spring of 2020, Moscow Finance and Law University (MFUA), like most Russian educational institutions, was forced to switch to the e-learning model. In just 3 weeks, Softline and Microsoft helped MFUA configure Microsoft 365 cloud solutions for a certain pool of users in accordance with the university structure and needs. The platform was integrated with email servers, and the Microsoft Teams calendar was configured to support scheduling classes. For more than a year now, 10,000 students have been using the platform daily, joining about 30,000 online meetings each month.

Moscow University of Finance and Law is the oldest Russian non-state higher education institution, which has been topping the rating of Russian universities for several years in a row. There are more than 50 students at MFUA. Since 2007, MFUA has been topping the ranking of Russian non-state accredited universities.

Due to the pandemic, MFUA had to reorganize its entire educational process as soon as possible and move it online. The university decided to use Microsoft Teams as an educational platform. Teams features many tools for productive and easy interaction—chat, video conferencing, notes, and collaboration on documents. It was important for teachers and students to use a service optimized for mobile devices and enabling swift information exchange to improve learning efficiency.

“Together with the Softline’s team, the university specialists enabled distance learning at MFUA using cutting-edge collaboration solutions powered by Microsoft 365. Now, that the services have been configured, we can not only hold lectures but also communicate with students and successfully manage learning in the new environment. As a result, we created a kind of a ‘digital’ copy of our university, which operated fine even when the participants of the educational process were just beginning to learn new ways of interacting,”—said Georgy Gorshkov, vice-rector of MFUA.

To accelerate the migration to the cloud while retaining the quality of educational services, the university turned to Softline. The experts of the global provider needed to implement the latest version of the email server and consolidate the Microsoft 365 cloud and the university’s existing IT infrastructure in a hybrid environment. Then the MFUA specialists scaled the solution to all students and lecturers. As a result, the educational process has gone online and the local infrastructure was retained.

With Teams, teachers can create tasks for practical and laboratory works, attaching the necessary methodological content for their completion and forming detailed and transparent evaluation criteria. When a student completes the work, the instructor receives a notification. They can evaluate the assignment online, and the comments will be forwarded to the student.

In addition, the platform was used by the university during state exams. Students uploaded their works to their personal accounts and then submitted them for review by the state committee, which joined a dedicated team in Teams. The state exam fully imitated the on-site format. Two rooms were created: one for the students to talk to each other while waiting, and another for the committee, where students were invited in turn to take the exam and defend their thesis. All records from the exam were saved to OneDrive automatically.

“Today, ensuring the educational process continuity is a priority for both of us. That is why Microsoft actively supports various modes of institution operation and, in particular, of their learning processes. We offer solutions for traditional full-time, distance, or hybrid formats. We hope that new tools will allow MFUA to expand the variety of its approaches to educational activities and unlock new opportunities,”—said Elena Slivko-Kolchik, Head of Science and Education Relations Division at Microsoft Russia.

“The provider’s team managed to solve the customer’s problems as quickly as possible. They successfully integrated the Microsoft Teams cloud platform with local email servers. To do this, the team analyzed, upgraded, and connected the local email system to the cloud. As a result, they created a solution that allowed us to integrate the calendar with Teams through a hybrid configuration of local email servers. Thus they achieved the goal set by the university—organizing and managing the online education process in a single information environment,”—says Lyudmila Prudchenko, Softline Key Account Manager for Academic Institutions.

India Needs Four Times More Eye Donors to Support the Annual Demand for 1 Lakh Corneal Transplantations, says Dr. Badri Prasad Dogne

Hyderabad: Blindness is a major cause of concern around the world today. In India, an estimated 20 lakh people suffer from blindness caused by damages to the cornea, the clear transparent outer layer of the eye. More than a quarter of the cases of corneal blindness can be resolved if transplantations are done without delay. Just like any other body organ, the cornea of the eye can also be donated after death. “With tens of thousands of corneal blindness cases being added every year to the existing burden, the annual demand for corneal transplantations is on the rise and to meet this dearth, the public needs to be educated on eye donation. On this National Eye Donation Fortnight let us highlight the importance of pledging our eyes,” says, Dr. Badri Prasad Dogne, Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, Hyderabad.

He further adds that Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital offers the unique PDEK procedure where a single donated eye can render vision to two or more people.

Who can donate eyes?

An eye donor can belong to any sex or age. However, there are a few diseases which can restrict the donation of the eyes like AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, Rabies, Septicaemia, Acute leukemia (Blood cancer), Tetanus, Cholera, and infectious diseases like Meningitis and Encephalitis.

Dr. Badri Prasad Dogne mentions a few points for public awareness in relation to eye donation.

Eyes can be donated only after death.
Eyes must be removed within 4 – 6 hours after death.
Eyes can be removed by a registered medical practitioner only.
The eye bank team will visit the home of the deceased or the hospital to remove the eyes.
Eye removal does not delay the funeral since the entire procedure takes 20-30 minutes only.
A small quantity of blood will be drawn to rule out communicable diseases.
Eye retrieval does not cause disfigurement.
The identities of both the donor and the recipient are kept confidential.
In relation to eye pledge and eye collection procedures, the eye donation of the deceased has to be authorized by the next of kin even if the deceased has pledged his or her eyes.
Use of spectacles for short sightedness, long sightedness or astigmatism or even those operated for cataract is also not a contraindication.

Enucleation of the Eyes

Eyes are to be enucleated preferably within six to eight hours of death. After enucleation the eyes are sent to eye banks for evaluation and further distribution. The eyes are evaluated by trained technicians as per the international standards. The deserving blind patients are called in accordance with the waiting list. Even emergency cases are dealt with in conformity with the guidelines prescribed.

Importance of Eye Donation

On the importance of eye donation, Dr. Badri Prasad Dogne says, “Due to the little or no awareness, social or religious reservations, and various other reasons eye donation is yet to get its due importance in our country. Various misunderstandings and misbeliefs act as a roadblock for this noble deed.”

He further adds, “Today the number of eye donations made is only about 50,000 per year in India – in other words, eyes are collected only from less than 0.5% of about 1 crore people who die in the country in a year. Therefore, awareness must be created about eye donation. Also, infrastructure such as eye banks and research centers must be increased to facilitate more eye donations.” At times when eye donations cannot be used for transplantation, they are forwarded for research and education. Whole eye research has led to advancements in the understanding of the cause and effects of conditions such as glaucoma, retinal disease, eye complications of diabetes and other sight disorders.
