Aarambh’ 22 rocks the city of Bengaluru with a myriad of electrifying performances

Bengaluru witnessed the biggest extravaganza since the pandemic as Aarambh 2022 rocked the city with a myriad of electrifying performances. Organized by KidsChaupal, an ed-tech start-up that aims at honing the skills of children, Aarambh is an annual cultural event that aims at giving wings to the dreams of aspiring young dancers out there and helping them take their first step toward a successful dance career.

Speaking about Aarambh 2022, Mr. Devendra Jaiswal & Mr. Dhiraj Singh, the co-founders of KidsChaupal said: “It is a celebration of the progress that has been made by the efforts of millions to overcome the traumatic experiences of Covid-19 and a reminder that there is still much more left to be accomplished.”

Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad to be front runners in India’s residential real estate recovery in 2022: Housing.com’s IRIS index

Megacities of Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are all set to lead India’s residential real estate recovery in the year 2022 at a time when home purchases have picked up pace in the wake of record low home loan interest rates in the last 15 years and record low affordability driven by stable real estate prices, according to India’ leading digital full-stack real estate platform Housing.com.

According to Housing.com’s IRIS index, while these three cities have seen increased homebuyer activity after the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the tier-II cities like Surat, Jaipur and Patna are the ones that have recorded the highest increase in online property search volume in 2021. The index also lists its ‘cities to watch out for building-up residential demand’, which include Tier-II cities like Surat, Jaipur, Patna, Mohali, Lucknow and Coimbatore.

Housing.com’s IRIS index tracks the online property search volume of high-intent homebuyers. The index is a leading indicator of the building-up of residential demand in India’s key 42 cities.

“The year 2021 has definitely been a year of positive change for residential realty. In more ways than one, it has set the stage for an overall turnaround in the year 2022, something that every sector stakeholder—from the government to real estate developers, and from banks to property investors—has been waiting for. We firmly believe that the strong momentum in the residential markets will continue through the 2022 calendar year, provided India is able to effectively deal with the threat of the Omicron variant spread,” said Dhruv Agarwala, Group CEO, Housing.com, Makaan.com and PropTiger.com.

“The metro cities of Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad will drive residential demand revival in 2022. We are also seeing increased traction in tier-II cities such as Surat, Jaipur, Patna, Mohali, Lucknow and Coimbatore on the back of continuing remote working policies. Homebuyers are now leaning towards larger homes and localities with access to better healthcare services, security, and open spaces. The changing consumer preference in residential realty, along with digital penetration across the supply and demand value chain, will shape the market in 2022” said Ankita Sood, Head of Research, Housing.com, Makaan.com and PropTiger.com

Demand for larger homes, residential plots sees major boost

The index by the Gurgaon-based company also shows that larger homes are going to be the preferred option among homebuyers in 2022 as companies continue to offer remote working policies amid Omicron variant threats. Data show that the search queries for apartments with 3+BHK configuration grew by 15% year-on-year in 2021.

Due to the rising demand for larger homes in the post coronavirus world, the demand for plots is also likely to emerge much stronger. In fact, there has already been a 42% YoY growth in search queries for residential plots in 2021, as per the IRIS Index.

Since the price of any property is directly linked to its size and amenities, an online search for properties in the ticket size of more than Rs 2 crore, has also undergone an increase – 1.1x times more queries were registered on the index for premium properties in 2021. Proximity to health infrastructure and security would remain two of the biggest factors among prospective homebuyers when selecting their dream properties, the index reveals, citing data from Housing.com’s Consumer Sentiment Outlook for 2022.

Noida Extension records highest share in national online property search volume

Even though the NCR has been at the receiving end of negative publicity due to project delays and developer insolvencies, Noida Extension in Noida will see significant homebuyer interest in the coming year, the index shows. Noida Extension took the maximum share in national online property search volume this year as recorded by the index. This is primarily because of the comparative affordability the area provides, along with the fact that the centre and the UP government have announced several mega infrastructure projects for this region in the recent past.

 Renting activity to pick up in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi

Housing.com’s IRIS index also indicated that the rental market in the megacities of Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi might come back on track in 2022, as companies increase hiring. In 2021, these three cities took the maximum share in online search volume for renting a home.

Noccarc deploys 2500+ ventilators during the 2nd wave of COVID-19

New Delhi: The true mettle of startups is proven by rising to the occasion when the country is faced with an urgent need. The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that hit India hard, especially during the last 3 months, left millions of people in desperate need of medical equipment such as ventilators, oxygen concentrators, etc. Against this backdrop, Noccarc, a Pune-based startup that is committed to solving real-world problems by materializing futuristic visions with remarkable technological expertise, successfully deployed 3000+ of its flagship V310 ventilators in 500+ hospitals across the country. Transcending borders, the company has also deployed ventilators in Nepal and has received orders from multiple other African and Southeast Asian countries.

Having supplied 300 ventilators during the first wave of the pandemic, and receiving tremendous acceptance from the market, Noccarc set up a 50,000 sq. ft. factory in Pune to cater to the growing domestic and global market. This allowed Noccarc to ramp up the production from 20 ventilators per day up until March 2021 to 105 ventilators a day by the end of April 2021 and supply 2,500 ventilators in a mere span of 3 months to meet the massive 800% surge in demand for ICU ventilators during the 2nd wave. Additionally, to ensure all ventilators are up and running, Noccarc set up a call center for online and offline assistance and customer support. The company also deployed a 300+ strong service and application team across the country to provide seamless on-site training and clinical support.

During the 2nd wave, Noccarc also worked with various large CSR organizations for deploying the ventilators in hospitals located at remote locations across the nation, a significant percentage of which were installed in government hospitals. 80% of the deployments were done in private hospitals with Maharashtra witnessing the highest deployment at 23% of the total ventilators deployed. Aside from this, the company has also received direct orders from government organizations for its ventilators. In order to improve the care continuum in India, Noccarc is further planning to launch advanced medical equipment to support clinicians for better decision making & digitize the healthcare system significantly.

Is it safe for patients on blood thinners to take Covid vaccine?

With the COVID-19 vaccination drive in its full swing now, especially for elderlies and people with comorbidities, more than 40 million Indians have reportedly received at least the first dosage in the last few weeks. However, despite the guidelines issued and precautions discussed, the question over its safety, side effects and if you are medically eligible because of taking blood thinners, still continues to be asked. It must be noted that COVID-19 vaccine is safe for almost everyone, irrespective of whether you take blood thinners or suffer from blood disorders. India, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, has toiled to emerge as a vaccine powerhouse globally with 60% of the world’s vaccines being manufactured in the country.

Much like its root cause, not much clarity was available while the vaccine was being developed to counter and keep us safe from COVID-19. There have been multiple reports that have spoken about the risks and threats that it may pose for people with cardiovascular problems or other comorbidities. The case, however, is different. Contrary to the assumptions, cardiac patients are advised to take the recommended two dosage of vaccine with any delay as it is completely safe. There are no particular precautions specific to patients with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Heart Arrhythmias, Heart Valve Disease, Pericardial Disease, Cardiomyopathy (Heart Muscle Disease) and Congenital Heart Disease are recommended while taking the vaccine. Patients with allergies must consult their physician before taking the vaccine.

Before taking the jab!

Like any other medicine or vaccination, it is advisable to always discuss with your treating Cardiologist or physician before you take the jab. A patient who recently underwent a surgery should wait for more than 2 weeks to take the vaccine. Anyone who recently had viral infections in the past one month suffer from chronic lung, liver and kidney diseases, suffered a brain stroke recently must consult their treating doctors before getting the vaccine.

  • No blood thinner – Vaccinate
  • Antiplatelet drug (Aspirin/Clopidogrel/Prasugrel/Ticagrelor) – Vaccinate
  • Oral Anticoagulants – Newer Anticoagulants (Dabigatran/Apixaban/Rivaroxaban) – Vaccinate, if no active bleeding issues occur
  • Vitamin K Antagonist (Acitrom/Warfarin) if INR >3.0, adjust the dose of Anticoagulation and then vaccinate when INR < 3.0. And, if the INR is 2-3, get recent report and then vaccinate.

Blood thinners, it must be noted, are medication that are used to prevent blood clot and are taken either orally or intravenously. They are of two types of blood thinners – antiplatelets (aspirin, or Clopidogrel) and anticoagulants (drugs like heparin). Patients who are currently taking antiplatelets are safe to take the vaccine but those on anticoagulants, may have a much higher tendency to have local haematoma (blood clot) or experience swelling on the injection site. Therefore, it is advisable to consult your physician before getting vaccinated to get clarity on bleeding issues or if any blood test indicate dosage reduction, it should be done as per doctor’s advice and vaccine taken. As per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR),the use of both Covaxin and Covishield have been declared as safe for people on blood thinners.

Things to remember for patients on blood thinners

Before administering the vaccine, communicate your history of any bleeding or coagulation disorder (e.g., clotting factor deficiency, coagulopathy or platelet disorder) at the vaccination center. Nonetheless, for all cases, it is advisable to use 23G needle. To prevent hematoma, give pressure on the vaccination site for 2 minutes. Check for action steps in case of experiencing any side effects (fever, swelling or irritation on the vaccinated area)

The first University Distinguished Lecture Series on “Doing Science Without Borders” commenced with an inaugural welcome speech by Prof V S Rao, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof D Narayana Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh. Prof V S Rao expressed their gratitude to Prof Ajay K Sood for his gracious presence. In addition, Prof Narayana Rao emphasized that under the University Distinguished Lecture series the talks will be delivered by eminent scientists from India and abroad that would be of immense benefit for students and the faculty and researchers.

He further mentioned, “Doctors, researchers, engineers and scientists from several fields of knowledge around the world worked together to confront corona outbreak with an unprecedented spirit of collaboration. Also, NEP advocates and emphasizes that the societal need of the 21st century require broad-based multidisciplinary research and education”.

Prof Ajay K Sood, Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS and Honorary Professor, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, narrated three stories of his recent experiments and advanced research work, namely “Emergent flocking behaviour seen in nature: Laboratory experiments”, “Crystallization of Glass: Machine Learning in condensed matter Physics”, and “Bacterial Nano Heat Engine: Getting bacteria to work”. He begins by stating that back in 1944, a profound physicist Schrodinger introduced the concept of “aperiodic crystal” which led to the understanding of genetic molecules, enunciating the importance of inter-disciplinary applications of scientific works. In his first narrative, he speaks of the flocking movement among birds, bacteria, locusts, and human beings as well.

He brought the same experiment in his laboratory where he used 2 particles, energized them, and identified their flocking pattern. He observed that the velocity of movement between the two particles differ, which can be applied to particle sorting. This experiment has applications in biology, where bacteria and/or cells can be sorted and separated and also in autonomous cars.

While explaining his second experiment, Prof A K Sood mentioned that he studied the devitrification or the tendency of glass particles to crystallize over time to reach a state of stability from its metastable state. He used supervised Machine Learning to predict where crystallization will occur in glass. His team trained the system to identify the hard and soft particles of the glass. His experiments concluded that Machine Learning (ML) helps in identifying the soft particles, which possess the tendency to move and crystallize over a long period of time.

Further, Prof A K Sood and his team of collaborators developed bacterial nano heat engines by mimicking the biological motors in our body which produces energy for living beings to function. Using bacterial activity, they made heat engines and are advancing their research work to recognize the practical applications of the nano heat engines in cars, batteries. The bacteria heat engines is a highly promising technology of the future

Prof A K Sood narrated his laboratory stories to explicate the splendour of multidisciplinary research which can be used to solve basic problems. He said, “The key to successful scientific research is to collaborate with experts beyond their own domain. Communication and appreciation of views of an open mind enable scientists to understand the various phenomena. Students and researchers should be curious which will lead to research having various interdisciplinary applications that will make an impact across various domains.”
