Magenta in collaboration with Central Railways inaugurates Public EV Charging Station along Parel, Dadar and Byculla Railway Stations

Magenta, the fastest growing Indian Charge Point Operator (CPO) company in collaboration with Central Railways inaugurated a Public EV charging station along with the Parel Railway Station. The charging station was inaugurated by Shri. Subhash Desai, Hon. Minister of Industry and Mining. Over the next two weeks, Magenta shall also set up the EV charging station along with the Dadar and Byculla Railway stations.

The first of its kind public charging station will be functional 24*7 initially with the unique Made in India Streetlamp Integrated EV Charging Stations (ChargeGrid FLARE) and subsequently with DC Fast chargers. This combination of AC and DC chargers will support 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers. These chargers can be operated through the ChargeGrid App with online remote monitoring which includes an automated payment gateway, thereby eliminating the need of having a station marshal to monitor, maintain & operate the chargers at the location.

Magenta is currently installing 4500 chargers across 108 cities in India (2950 chargers under the FAME-2 scheme along REIL; more than 1200 chargers along with Petrol stations such as HPCL and others; 82 at FERN Hotels; Residential chargers in collaboration with Government of Delhi; Residential chargers at Bengaluru Apartment Federation). This will support the government initiative of setting up 400,000 charging stations to meet the requirement for two million Electric Vehicles (EV) that could potentially ply on its roads by 2026.

Mumbai: The Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital For Children, Parel, Mumbai started India’s first Brace Bank “W-riddhi”, and is now encouraging parents and doctors to donate used clubfoot braces to the Brace Bank, where they are refurbished and supplied to needy families at a very low cost of Rs 1,500 per child every month under the “Each one treat one scheme”.

Clubfoot is the most common musculoskeletal birth deformity affecting about 1 in 800 children. Untreated clubfoot is an important cause of long-term physical and emotional disability in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) due to lack of accessibility to quality healthcare and systemic inequities. 80% of clubfoot children are born in LMICs and it is estimated that over 200,000 children are born with clubfoot each year and approximately 35,000 in India alone. Wadia Hospital partnered with CURE Clubfoot Worldwide in 2011, a US-based NGO to establish a dedicated Clubfoot Clinic in the hospital premises to provide a protocol-based clubfoot treatment by training doctors in the Ponseti method, providing free clubfoot braces, establishing a prospective clubfoot registry, and setting a 24×7 dedicated clubfoot helpline for parent support. Now, it is taken a step ahead and established India’s first Brace Bank W-riddhi meaning progress.

Dr Rujuta Mehta HOD, Dept. Paediatric Orthopaedics, Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, said, “Rather than depending on NGOs for support, we are now encouraging parents and doctors to donate used clubfoot braces to the Brace Bank, where they are refurbished and supplied to needy families at a very low cost under the “Each one treat one scheme”. Our vast database of over 1500 patients is uploaded in-house by Wadia staff on a special online portal of the International Clubfoot Registry (ICR), hosted by the University of Iowa, USA. We are collaborating with international universities (University of Toronto and University of Oxford) for various research projects related to developing outcome tools and treatment guidelines for late presenting clubfoot.”

Global Hospitals, Mumbai Parel Launches A Comprehensive Clinic for Treatment of Mucormycosis And Other Invasive Fungal Infections

Mumbai: There has been a surge in cases of a black fungus infection, Mucormycosis, linked with Covid-19. This infection has become a grave matter of concern, that requires prompt medical attention. Patients who already have underlying conditions, like diabetes, are more susceptible to the infection. Infected patients run the risk of losing their eyes, palate and even risk death, if not treated well in time. To save the lives of such patients, Global Hospitals, Parel has formed a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) consisting of ENT, infectious diseases specialist, critical care, physician, and endocrinologist, who would jointly treat mucormycosis patients. The hospital has launched Mumbai’s first Mucormycosis clinic, to offer comprehensive and planned care for the patients.

The low immunity caused by the COVID 19 infection, along with diabetes mellitus made Mrs. Shaila Sonar, from Dhule, interior Maharashtra, more susceptible to the rare and serious fungal infection, Mucormycosis. Mucorales is the largest and best-studied order of zygomycete fungi, which are sometimes called pin molds. This rare fungal infection destroys bone, invades blood vessels. It spreads aggressively from the nose to palate to the orbits and to the brain. In Sonar’s case, the fungal infection was present in her nose, paranasal sinuses, and palate. The infection was so aggressive, that even after four surgeries performed outside Global Hospital, it continued to persist. This led to the patient’s eventual consultation on December 1, 2020. Surgery along with appropriate anti-fungal therapy followed. Sonar was operated on and half of her palate was removed in the process of clearing the fungal infection.  Her eyes were saved due to timely and precise surgical intervention. Post-operation, she underwent anti-fungal therapy and rehabilitation. 21 days after her admission, she was discharged.

Dr. Milind Navalakhe, ENT Surgeon, Global Hospitals, Parel said, “Mucormycosis is a fungal disease, that usually occurs in patients with a compromised immune status. I have treated a substantial number of diabetic patients with this fungal infection, even before the COVID era. In the early 90s, only one to two patients would visit me for treatment of this infection. But in the last 25 years, per year 25-30 patients received treatment for it. Now, within 1-3 months of post-COVID recovery, around 50 low-immunity patients, with diabetes and on steroids, got this fungal infection.”

Dr Navalakhe added, “Unfortunately, it does not cause significantly different symptoms than a cold or nasal block. Initially, blackish discoloration on the inside of the nose and palate is seen. Hence, it goes unnoticed to an advanced stage. By the time the patients seek medical attention, it is already in the advanced stage called sinonasal mucormycosis. It mainly starts in the nasal cavity or paranasal sinuses, involving the nose. It then becomes rhino-orbital, wherein the eyes are involved. Eventually, it becomes rhino-cerebral, with the involvement of the brain. Many patients realize the need for medical intervention when there is palatal involvement. This harmful disease usually starts in the sinuses and then proceeds to the eyeball, the palate, and the brain, causing destruction to the structure. This infection kills tissues causing necrosis. Treatment requires the removal of dead tissues and even the tissues surrounding it, to curb the spread of the infection.”
