Kargil War – The Turning Point book launched in Bengaluru by Governor of Arunachal Pradesh

Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Launches Kargil War Book

In a glittering ceremony on 3rd July at the Army Officers Institute in Bengaluru, Lt Gen K T Parnaik (retd), the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, launched a book titled “Kargil War – The Turning Point”. Authored by late Col M B Ravindranath, VrC, a war hero and son of the soil hailing from Davangere, the memoir vividly recalls the challenges that the author and his unit 2 RAJ RIF faced, as they attacked Tololing during the Kargil War 25 years ago. Several attacks to evict the Pakistani troops from the formidable Himalayan heights had failed, when Ravi and his warriors went into battle at Tololing. After a bitterly fought battle, 2 RAJ RIF soldiers stood victorious on Tololing at dawn on 13 June 99. This was the Turning Point in the war, and Indian troops thereafter destroyed several Pakistani posts in the next month, and evicted the treacherous Pakistani Army in the Drass – Kargil Sector.

Col MB Ravindranath, VrC, who hails from Davangere is an alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur and NDA, Pune. He was the Commanding Officer of 2 RAJ RIF when the unit moved into the Drass area to evict Pakistani soldiers from the heights overlooking the Leh Highway. He led his unit to victory, and after his unit command was over, he took premature retirement and returned to his roots to handle the family business. He penned his experiences passionately before he passed away in April 2018 after a massive heart attack.

The book Kargil War – The Turning Point traces the events of those months, as Ravi prepared his infantrymen for the battles, the fears that he had to overcome, the plans that he made and finally his leadership on the icy mountain ridges during the attacks. The book also highlights the sacrifice of bravehearts like Major Acharya, MVC, Major Vivek Gupta, MVC, Lt Kenguruse, MVC, Capt Vijayant Thapar, VrC and such others. At the book launch event organized by Ravindranath’s family, several of his colleagues and friends joined and paid tribute to him. Lt Gen Mohinder Puri (retd), Ravi’s Division Commander during the war described Ravindranath’s commitment, resilience, courage and bold leadership. Lt Gen KT Parnaik, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh described how the troops fight for the honour of their units, their clans and for the nation. He highlighted his personal association with late Col M B Ravindranath. Col David Devasahayam, CMD of the Radiant Group, a corporate leader and colleague of Col Ravindranath, also recalled the commitment and enterprise of Ravindranath. Former Services Chiefs Admiral Karambir Singh, General Manoj Naravane and Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria also graced the book launch ceremony.

“Kargil War – The Turning Point” is an intimate narrative that captures the essence of the courage and resilience of Indian soldiers. Written in a gripping style, the book brings out the formidable positions held by the Pakistanis which our troops overcame valiantly. The Kargil War of 1999 remains a pivotal moment in India’s military history, showcasing the indomitable spirit of the Armed Forces in defending the nation’s sovereignty. “Kargil War – The Turning Point” pays homage to these extraordinary individuals and their families, offering readers a poignant insight into the sacrifices made and the triumphs achieved during this critical period. “Kargil War – The Turning Point” is now available at leading bookstores nationwide and online platforms.

As we celebrate the Rajat Jayanti of the Kargil Victory this month, it is apt to salute our valiant soldiers who guard our frontiers with dedication and fortitude. Jai Hind!

This decision marks the inaugural action of the newly sworn-in government and aims to address the housing needs of an increasing number of eligible families. The Union Cabinet announced that the extension of assistance will cater to both rural and urban households, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to improving housing conditions.

Since its implementation in 2015-16, the PMAY has completed 4.21 crore houses, providing basic amenities such as toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and tap water to eligible poor families. The new initiative underscores the government’s continued focus on ensuring adequate housing for all.

Comments By Industry Experts

Mr. Pradeep Aggarwal the Founder & Chairman of Signature Global (India) Ltd

“In a visionary move, the newly formed cabinet has approved the construction of an additional 3 crore rural and urban houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This decision reinforces the government’s commitment to “housing for all” and introduces a significant enhancement: a higher eligible carpet area under the PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U) scheme, compared to the earlier Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS). By expanding carpet area eligibility, the government is addressing critical challenges faced by potential homebuyers in the affordable and mid-housing segments. This progressive step is expected to increase home ownership opportunities for urban and rural populations, ensuring broader access to housing and promoting socio-economic stability. The new scheme is poised to make a substantial impact on the housing sector, encouraging developers to prioritize affordable housing projects and ultimately boosting the overall housing supply in the country.”

Mr Rajat Likhyani the Principal Partner at Square Yards

“PMAY has been a crucial initiative in addressing the housing shortage across both urban and rural areas. The scheme offers essential credit-linked subsidies, helping eligible families to achieve homeownership and access basic amenities significantly improving their living conditions. In the last 10 years, the scheme has facilitated the completion of 4.21 crore homes. The Government of India’s recent decision to build an additional 3 crore rural and urban houses is a positive move, further promoting homeownership among economically weaker sections and low-income groups.”

Mr Ravi Shankar Singh the Managing Director at Residential Transaction Services, Colliers India

“The announcement of 3cr additional housing units is a very welcoming initiative. The govt is driving the PM Awas Yojana in the right direction by addressing the housing needs of rural India and at the same time creating employment opportunities in these regions.”

China CDE Approves Global Phase III Study of Olverembatinib for SDH-Deficient GIST

SUZHOU, China, and ROCKVILLE, Md., June 11, 2024 — Ascentage Pharma (6855.HK), a global biopharmaceutical company engaged in developing novel therapies for cancer, chronic hepatitis B (CHB), and age-related diseases, announced today that the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) of China’s National Medical Product Administration (NMPA) has approved a global registrational Phase III study of the company’s novel drug candidate olverembatinib (HQP1351), in patients with succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)-deficient gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) who had failed prior systemic treatment. This approval marks a major milestone in Ascentage Pharma’s clinical development in solid tumors.

This global, multicenter, single-arm, open-label, pivotal registrational Phase III study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of olverembatinib in patients with SDH-deficient GIST. The CDE has agreed that results from the study can be used to support a future New Drug Application (NDA) for olverembatinib in SDH-GIST.

GIST is the most common type of soft tissue sarcoma that arises in the gastrointestinal track, with a global incidence of 1-1.5/100,000 per year.1 KIT and PDGFRA are key genetic drivers of GIST, and 85% – 90% of all patients with GIST harbor KIT or PDGFRA mutations. The introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has improved the prognosis of patients with this subset of GIST. However, 85% of pediatric patients and 10%-15% of adult patients with GIST do not harbor KIT or PDGFRA mutations, thus belong to a subtype dubbed wild-type GIST. Depending on whether the SDH expression is lost in the patient, wide-type GIST can be further categorized into SDH-deficient and non-SDH-deficient GISTs.2-3 .

SDH-deficient GIST has unique clinical and pathological characteristics. According to existing literatures, SDH-deficient GIST has a median age of diagnosis of 21 years and is more common in women. SDH-deficient GIST, primarily arises in the gastric area with a high propensity to metastasize, is characterized in immunohistochemistry essays by the loss of SDHB protein expression. Patients with early-stage localized SDH-deficient GIST can be treated with surgeries, although most patients eventually relapse. At present, there is no standard treatment option for relapsed and advanced SDH-deficient GISTs. Imatinib is generally considered ineffective for the condition and other TKIs have also failed to demonstrate satisfactory efficacy2-5, offering a five-year event-free survival (EFS) rate of just 24%.4 Being commonly diagnosed at young ages, patients with SDH-deficient GIST endure significant impact on their quality of life and survival, therefore have urgent unmet medical needs for new treatment options.

Olverembatinib is an orally-available novel third-generation TKI developed by Ascentage Pharma. The drug has been granted a Breakthrough Therapy Designation by the China CDE for the treatment of patients with SDH-deficient GIST who had received first-line treatment. As a multi-targeted TKI, olverembatinib has shown excellent efficacy and manageable safety in patients with SDH-deficient GIST. Since 2022, the clinical study evaluating olverembatinib in SDH-deficient GIST has been selected for presentations at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting for three consecutive years, including an oral report at the 60th ASCO Annual Meeting just took place this month. According to the latest results, olverembatinib has achieved a clinical benefit rate (CBR) of 92.3% in patients with SDH-deficient GIST.

Olverembatinib is the first China-approved third-generation BCR-ABL inhibitor. To date, the drug has been approved for two indications in China, including adult patients with TKI-resistant chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML-CP) or accelerated-phase CML (CML-AP) harboring the T315I mutation; and adult patients with CML-CP resistant to and/or intolerant of first-and second-generation TKIs. Olverembatinib is jointly commercialized in China by Ascentage Pharma and Innovent Biologics.

“In earlier studies, olverembatinib has already shown encouraging efficacy and favorable safety in patients with SDH-deficient GIST,” said Dr. Yifan Zhai, Chief Medical Officer of Ascentage Pharma. “We are excited by the approval for this global registrational Phase III study because it could potentially lead to a clinical breakthrough for another indication that currently lacks approved treatment options while marking a major milestone for Ascentage Pharma’s clinical development in solid tumors. Remaining steadfastly committed to the mission of addressing unmet clinical needs in China and around the world, we will expeditiously advance this clinical development program for the benefit of more patients.”

Ravi Shankar Prasad: PM Modi Is Committed To The Development Of Bihar

After the NDA’s thumping victory in Bihar, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, in an exclusive interview with Marya Shakil, Political Editor, CNN-News18, has said that PM Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi) changes the wind. He gave the credit of victory to PM Modi only. He also said that his government got votes because people appreciated the works of PM Modi during the Corona period.

Ravi Shankar Prasad strongly criticized the exit poll and said that the above has come that it should be estimated by thinking. Let me tell you that NDA government is going to be formed once again in Bihar. The NDA has won 125 seats in the assembly elections. Whereas almost all exit polls had named Tejashwi Yadav as the next Chief Minister of Bihar.

What kind of exit poll is this?

In a special conversation with CNN-News18, he got angry on exit poll. He said, ‘From Delhi, these people go to Patna and Gaya. They talk to some people there and show them what they want. The voice of the voiceless is not heard. It is better that these people maintain the dignity of the exit poll. Nitish also helped the people during the Corona period with the help of the central government. Modi government was also blessed.

What will happen to Chirag Paswan?

He said that both he and JDU had to suffer due to not being with Chirag Paswan. He said, ‘Chirag’s father was with us for a long time. He was also a Minister at the centre. The LJP is a regional party. Chirag had problems with Nitish’s leadership. Amit Shah also tried to convince them. But they did not agree. This happens in politics.

Nitish will be CM

Union Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad also said that Nitish Kumar will be the next Chief Minister of Bihar. He said that the BJP knows the relationship. This time BJP has emerged as the elder brother in the state. BJP has won a total of 74 seats. While JDU has got only 43 seats in its account. They have lost 28 seats compared to last time. Whereas BJP has gained 21 seats.

Shri. Nitish Kumar

No anti-incumbency in Bihar, NDA will clinch majority in polls: CM Nitish Kumar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in an exclusive interview with CNN-News18, said that there is no anti-incumbency in the state and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will get a majority in the Assembly elections.

“There is no anti-incumbency in Bihar, I am not worried about that at all… NDA will get a majority, and if things upturn, then it will be a result of the previous 15-year rule and people will run away again,” Kumar said, adding that he will be “at peace” if he is voted out.

“If I am voted out then I will be at peace, I won’t have to do anything. If I am voted to power then I shall work for the state and its people, I am not greedy for power…” Kumar said.

The Bihar CM also spoke about the Opposition’s promises of providing jobs and called them “laughable”.

“The Opposition is making false promises… They could not give 10 lakh jobs when Bihar and Jharkhand were one. All these promises are being made to mesmerise the public,” Kumar claimed, adding that as far as the crowds at Opposition rallies are concerned, they “do not matter”.

Kumar also spoke about the generational gap between him and the other leaders in the fray, including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Chirag Paswan.

“How does it matter? One was from cricket, another from Cinema, let them have their publicity,” Kumar said while referring to Yadav’s career as a cricketer and Paswan’s involvement in Bollywood.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister (Amit Shah) and BJP party president are all saying that I will be the chief minister when we win. I have not asked for anything, it is all up to the people of Bihar,” Kumar said.

Campaigning for the second phase of Bihar assembly elections ended on November 1, setting the stage for polling on November 3 in 94 constituencies spread across 17 districts.

The third and final round of voting will take place on November 7 and the counting of votes on November 10.
