MLA Rais Shaikh addresses the grievances of the youth with his unique campaign #EkDinKaMLA

As the MLA of Bhiwandi East, a suburb in Mumbai, seasoned politician Rais Shaikh has been working actively towards addressing and working towards solving the issues pertaining to the residents in his constituency. Rais Shaikh, who is a member of the Samajwadi Party, has been lauded for all the work he has done towards the upliftment of the people in his constituency. He had always had a firm belief in the fact that the youth of the country plays an important role in taking it forward. He had always closely interacted with the youth in his constituency and addressed their grievances.

Recently, Rais Shaikh, who is quite active on social media, organised a contest called ‘Ek Din Ka MLA’. Under this contest, his followers on social media were asked as to “What they would do if they got the opportunity to become an MLA for the day.”

The contest drew the attention of a large number of youngsters who talked about the things they would do or the changes they would like to bring if they got to assume power and authority for a day. Nine winners were selected and as promised, they got the chance to interact with Rais in a live session on his Instagram feed.

Talking about the same, Rais says, “It was great interacting with all the youngsters during the live session. Most people who participated chipped in with some great ideas but I liked the ideas and comments shared by these nine individuals to be the best. While interacting with them, I got to know about their aspirations and made a note of all the valuable suggestions they came up with to bring about some positive changes in Bhiwandi East and the society, in general. We often tend to undermine the opinion of young people and that is a very wrong thing to do. Youth signifies change and energy. They are the future of any society and country. We must listen to them and converse with them in a language they understand.”

The selection of the winners based on the kind of ideas they shared. The contest #EkDinKaMLA was organised and digitally managed by Sunil Gupta and Rima Mishra from the digital marketing agency Media Tribe.

“There was absolutely no bias in the contest. The winners were chosen based on merit. I am a member of the Samajwadi Party but a few of the participants, whom I interacted with, were affiliated to political parties like NCP and Shiv Sena. There was a lawyer, a student, a social activist and several other kinds of people. It was wonderful to speak to each of them and I hope to do another live session soon to delve further into the minds and aspirations of the youth”, Rais Shaikh states.

With the rise in COVID cases in UP, Hospitals see rise in the teleconsultation services

With increasing coronavirus cases and people’s subsequent hesitation to step out of home, Regency Superspecialty Hospital, Lucknow has witnessed a surge in the teleconsultation OPD services in the last one month. The hospital administration has revealed that 60 per cent of the online and teleconsultations pertaining to health conditions like chronic kidney diseases and liver-related problems have increased as many districts in Uttar Pradesh are going through a partial lockdown to curb the spread of the life-threatening virus.

Under a month of its launch, the teleconsultation service launched by Regency Superspecialty Hospital, saw an increase in adoption, owing to people’s awareness towards the importance of regular health check-ups and limited availability of doctors for an in-person consultation. Teleconsultation has seen massive growth due to the pressing demand for digital access to doctors and medical services during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for chronic kidney disease patients, for whom delays in treatment can have severe life-threatening consequences.

“It is highly appreciable that people are staying indoors and turning to teleconsultation for their healthcare needs. In such unprecedented times, when our mobility is restricted, teleconsultation services have come as a saving grace. We at Regency Superspecialty Hospital want to ensure that all the patients are provided appropriate medical advice through teleconsultation sessions. We believe through the launch of this service most of our patients will not have any break in their medical treatment as all our senior consultants are available through this technology interface. Social distancing processes have created their own challenges in healthcare services and we are creating solutions to meet our patient expectations. All our services at the hospitals are continuing and our emergency department is open 24/7 to extend medical attention,” said Dr Deepak Dewan, MD, DM-Nephrology, Director Renal Sciences, Regency Superspecialty Hospital.

Patients have been going through their routine follow up consultations through this technology so that they can have continued access to their care. Through the launch of the teleconsultation services, Regency Superspecialty Hospital has created a new model of hospital-based patient care coupled with care wherever applicable.

“At this time the anxiety levels, particularly among patients with chronic diseases, is high and having access to their doctors gives these patients’ extreme comfort and confidence. Managing chronic diseases during the coronavirus pandemic has been difficult and requires close coordination between multiple medical services, scheduling appointments, and coming up with solutions to innumerable problems that crop up along the way. With the rise of COVID-19 cases in India and the subsequent lockdown enforcement for the safety of the larger public, there were a number of patients who found it difficult to get the medical help they required. But teleconsultation helped them to maintain continuity of care through local centers,” added Dr Pradeep Joshi, MS M.Ch.(GI Surgery), Senior Consultant, Regency Superspecialty Hospital.

Amid COVID-19, father donates liver to save life of his little daughter, Jupiter Hospital performs a liver transplant to save 5-years old Pune girl

Timely surgical intervention and liver donation by father to a little daughter, in times of COVID-19, saved the life a 5-years old Pune girl who was suffering from life-threatening liver disease. Ten-hours long liver transplant surgery by an experienced team of surgeons at Jupiter Hospital saved the life of Shubhra who received a liver from her father

Shubra was suffering from biliary atresia, a condition in which there is the failure of development of bile ducts in the liver at birth. Children suffering from this condition develop jaundice. She underwent a corrective procedure at birth known as Kasai’s procedure, said Dr Kalpesh Patil, the Paediatric surgeon. However, when she became 4 years old, she developed jaundice, accumulation of fluid in her abdomen and multiple bouts of vomiting containing blood and would require life-saving liver transplantation, said Dr Vishnu Biradar, the Paediatric gastroenterologist

The complex surgery which took place over ten hours at Jupiter hospital in Baner, Pune was performed by a team of transplant surgeons headed by Dr Gaurav Chaubal.

“Liver transplantation in children is often very challenging as they have very small blood vessels which need to be connected to the new liver and the operation is technically challenging. There is no room for error,” said Dr Chaubal.

Shubra’s father donated a part of his liver to his child. All necessary testing and diagnostic procedures were carried out and the transplant was performed on 4th July 2020

Shubra and her father underwent a full and extensive transplant assessment. The old liver from the child was removed surgically and the donor’s liver was connected. The transplanted liver began working straight away. At the end of the surgery, the recipient was stable and shifted out to the intensive care unit for further care. All the protocols related to the prevention of the spread of the COVID was followed during the conduct of this surgery and in the Transplant ICU said Dr Srinivas Tambe, Paediatric intensivist. She spent 14 days in the hospital and was discharged. Both father and child have recovered completely. This successful transplant has led to a very high possibility of a complete cure from the liver cirrhosis in a new lease of life to the child”

Shubhra’s case clearly points out that people should not be scared of COVID-19 and should not delay life-saving surgeries. Jupiter Hospital has been taking full care of non-COVID-19 critical cases and performs advanced surgeries taking all precautions for patient safety and care.
