Be Future ready: Droom hosted its 9th Annual E-commerce Day to promote entrepreneurship

New Delhi: Following its tradition to create a highly anticipated and exclusive entrepreneurial opportunity for the budding entrepreneurs and e-commerce enthusiasts, Droom, India’s pioneering online automobile transactional marketplace, hosted its 9th edition of its annual E-commerce Day today. The event saw active participation of over 600 attendees from renowned business schools, technical institutes, budding entrepreneurs and e-commerce buffs. The event consisted of numerous sessions, which allowed the attendees to directly interact with Droom’s Founder & CEO, Sandeep Aggarwal and other dynamic leadership members of Droom.

Students from reputed universities / colleges such as IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore, IIM Kashipur, IIM Shillong, IIM Udaipur, IIM Rohtak, IIFT, IMT Ghaziabad, NMIMS, SP Jain, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, MNIT, Delhi University Campuses, Bennett University, Amity University participated in the event and learned the nuances of entrepreneurship and the e-commerce industry through multiple fascinating sessions. It was a highly interactive event, filled with pep talks and brainstorming sessions, showcasing Droom’s unicorn journey highlights. Furthermore, through experience sharing sessions, Sandeep and Droom’s leadership shared challenges and potential solutions of their professional journey and advised the young entrepreneurs to build on their ideas & passion. 5G Technology-Game-Changer for India

5G is a very important technological development and a combination of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, cloud services and data explosion will lead us to a completely different domain of 5G deliberated Mr. S.K Gupta (ITS), Secretary, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in an interactive webinar organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on ‘5G Technology: India’s Journey Post COVID’.

Mr. Gupta spoke about how telecom has become a vital backbone of our economy and even the development of a country’s GDP depends on it. He mentioned that fast deployment of 5G is required and enhanced mobile broadband, latency applications etc will lead to better adoption as people are more than ready for it.

Throwing light on some of the challenges & precautions that we need to take in order to adopt 5G, Mr. Gupta further added that data privacy and data security are needed to be taken care of so as to avoid misuse of data. In order to be ready for 5G, we need to work on proper optical fibre connectivity and bandwidth. 5G would be a collaborative effort of system integrators, device manufacturers, OEMs, TSPs, ISPs etc, said Mr. Gupta.

Mr. Amit Marwah, Head of Marketing & Corporate Affairs, Nokia India in his presentation spoke about how this year has given a new meaning to data growth and on the impact of COVID-19 on 2020 network traffic trends.

He also elaborated on how homes & business are connected with 5G by getting home broadband for gaming and HD videos, serving ‘ultra-broadband’ to areas where fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) is uneconomical and connecting small and medium businesses with guaranteed reliability for business-critical applications. He also mentioned as to how automation and robotics are driven use-cases are emerging from the pandemic in the field of manufacturing, healthcare, retail, autonomous vehicles and video analytics.

Mr. Marwah emphasized on the fact that for the digital transformation we need to prepare for big changes; address the digital skill gap and then ride the wave. He also said that 5G technology will lead to the acceleration of Industry 4.0.

Mr. Sandeep Aggarwal, Mentor, Telecom Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry while giving an overview about the evolution of technology in the world, catering to the needs and growing demands of the public, mentioned that post COVID-19, we have understood that digital is the way forward and how we are improving our capability to assimilate information in a better way. We need to develop our infrastructure, increase the towers and increase the installation of fibre kilometres so that the connectivity reaches every part of the country. He encouraged foreign private investors and telecom players to invest in technology in India.

Mr. Anil Khaitan, Former President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry mentioned that the pandemic has transformed consumer behaviour and habits & how people have started to rely completely on digital solutions now. Work and entertainment have become virtual and companies have to adapt to this to provide digital experience to its customer’s employees.

He added that 5G will be a key driver for the Indian industry towards a better future and to be able to compete and succeed globally. It will help drive sustainable economic growth and define India’s next decade of innovation. The pandemic has accelerated the demand for connectivity with consumers and professionals, relying on high quality and high-speed internet performance. 5G could be critical in enabling businesses to maintain operations and remain resilient & agile in the phase of any future destruction, said Mr. Anil Khaitan.

Mr. Alok Mukherjee, Co-Chairman, Telecom Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivered the formal vote of thanks to the panellists for their insightful thoughts and views on 5G Technology. He said that 5G will change the way we interact with technology & would not only guarantee higher data capacity and speed but also provide the capacity to connect billions of devices. He also added that digitalization has also made digital entrepreneurship possible and accelerated the e-commerce industry.

The webinar was moderated by Dr. Yogesh Srivastav, Principal Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was also attended by Prof N.K Goyal, Chairman E TEMA and President CMAI along with many senior members of PHD Chamber, senior embassy officials and stalwarts from the telecom industry.

Need for Domestic Manufacturing of Smartphones, a step towards Self-Reliant India

In the upcoming years there is a huge opportunity for India by creating, sourcing, making and exporting Smartphone from India, shared Mr. Sanmeet Kochhar, Vice President, HMD Global in a session organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Smartphone Industry post COVID-19’.

Mr. Sanmeet Kochhar mentioned that with a decline in the world GDP, according to reports the worldwide Smartphone market has suffered the largest decline year-on-year. Talking about the challenges and opportunities, he discussed that there is a need for secure enterprise mobility.

According to many studies, 2021 will rebound with 6% YoY growth in Smartphones, and looking at the present times, there is an increase in the usage time of smartphones. Value-added services like insurance, extended warranty, or things that help to build value in their purchase are expected to increase in the upcoming years, deliberated by Mr. Kochhar.

Mr. Sunil Joon, Vice President & Chief Product Officer, Micromax Informatics Ltd, while giving an industry perspective mentioned that there is a decline in the shipments due to COVID and an increase in the online channel of smartphones, which is also expected to grow at a much faster pace.

He mentioned that due to COVID-19, consumers have increased their buying on online channels. The consumer services on these online channels have generated stickiness in their consumer’s minds. Due to this, the presence of online channels has been registered in remote and rural areas as well. He also said that looking at the present market trends, there is a need for a fresh perspective for sales and distribution in the offline market.

Talking about the future growth prospects of the industry, he said that this is a highly resilient industry. Also, with the emergence of digital learning and remote working, this industry has increased its users. Now, this industry needs to look at affordability for driving the market along with more user-friendly features.

Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal, Senior Vice President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, deliberated about the growing need for the strong telecom network in the times of the pandemic to stay connected with each other. He discussed that while there are a lot of challenges in this industry to cater to; there is a pool of opportunities as well which makes this sector one of the pivotal sectors for the growth of the economy. He also discussed the rise in the usage of smartphones which offers multiple user-friendly features, is portable, and comes at affordable prices.

Mr. Aggarwal also highlighted that due to COVID-19, one of the challenges the Smartphone industry is facing is on the manufacturing side. Therefore, there is a need to amplify the domestic manufacturing and production of smartphones which will help to expand the market and increase the ability to adapt the technology, leading to the growth of the economy and a move towards a Self-Reliant India.

Mr. Sandeep Aggarwal, Chairman, Telecom Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while giving a background of the mobile industry, highlighted that India has the capability to manufacture smartphones in India and Government is encouraging domestic manufacturing in a significant manner with robust notifications. He discussed that during and post-pandemic, there is will be a significant shortage in the spare parts due to international manufacturing disruption. He hopes that with the diligent efforts of the Indian Government, the Smartphone industry amplifies its manufacturing growth and makes this industry Self-Reliant.

Mr. Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary-General, PHD Chamber, in his formal vote of thanks, deliberated that Covid-19 has accelerated the pace of technology adoption across the country and allowed many useful apps, making Smartphone an integral part of lives. He discussed that Indian brands can benefit from the Make in India and Digital India initiatives from the government to take control of manufacturing rather than depending on outside ODMs to design and manufacture their products. He highlighted that the Indian market for smartphones needs innovation and investment in R&D, building in-house capability with a greater possibility of localization, quality control, and differentiation.
