Honeywell to Provide Automation Solutions for Volts Gigafactory in the Uae

Mumbai, India – May 23, 2024 — Honeywell and Volts United Arab Emirates (UAE) announce plans to join forces for the construction of the first gigafactory in Abu Dhabi focused on delivering battery cells for Residential Energy Storage Systems (RESS). Building on sustainability discussions that took place at COP28 in the UAE, the gigafactory is slated for completion by the end of 2026.

As part of the collaboration, Honeywell will provide advanced solutions for equipment and software – with a focus on factory automation, digitalization and closed loop control systems – while serving as a key technological partner for Volts.

George Bou Mitri, VP and GM of Honeywell Industrial Automation in MENA, said: “There is a clear link between the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and Honeywell’s global focus on its three megatrends, in this instance specifically the energy transition. This collaboration with Volts will serve to further the nation’s drive toward sustainable and renewable sources of energy and support the realization of the closing agreement at COP28, which helped lay the framework for an equitable energy transition.”

AD Ports Group Explores Multi-Purpose Port Development in Chittagong, Bangladesh

Abu Dhabi, UAE , 17 May 2024: AD Ports Group, a leading facilitator of global trade, logistics and industry, signed a MoU with the Chittagong Port Authority to explore the future development and operation of the Multi-Purpose Port in Chittagong Port and other ancillary opportunities in Bangladesh.

The MoU was signed in presence of H.E. Abdulla AlHmoudi, UAE Ambassador, Head of the UAE Mission to Bangladesh and Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, Honourable Minister of State, Mr. Md. Mostafa Kamal, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Shipping – Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, by Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, Chairman, Chittagong Port Authority and Ahmed Al Mutawa, Regional CEO, AD Ports Group.

Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, Chairman, Chittagong Port Authority, said: “The Multi-Purpose Port in Chittagong is a priority for the Government of Bangladesh. It will be a game changer for the regional economy in general and Bangladesh economy in particular. We are pleased to collaborate with AD Ports Group on the development of this vital project, leveraging their expertise and capabilities as a global trade and logistics player. We hope that this MoU will pave the way for further cooperation that will attract more foreign direct investments to Bangladesh.”

It’s pertinent to note that over 90% of Bangladesh’s international trade is conducted through the ports of Chittagong, furthermore Bangladesh’s seaports are an integral part of the multimodal network that links the republic to the hinterland, in addition to providing sea access for the landlocked Himalayan countries Nepal, Bhutan and India’s Northeast region.

Both nations have celebrated 50 years of bilateral ties earlier in March this year, with ongoing talks to ink a Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEPA) aimed towards enhancing economic cooperation and opening new avenues for trade and investment, the MoU signed between AD Ports Group and the Chittagong Port Authority is aligned with the aforementioned efforts.

The UAE is considered Bangladesh’s second-largest remittance source, a leading trading partner with a significant base of investment for Bangladesh, the volume of non-oil trade exchanges between the two countries exceeds USD 2 billion.

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 27 February 2024: Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi – KEZAD Group, a leader in the development of integrated and purpose-built economic zones, today announced two land lease agreements with Sam Force Trading, a renowned developer and operator of real estate assets in Abu Dhabi. The agreements mark a pivotal step in enhancing the retail infrastructure in KEZAD through the creation of vibrant retail community centres.

Under the agreements, Sam Force will construct and operate community retail centres on two prime locations in KEZAD which will cater to the diverse needs of residents and businesses within the KEZAD community.

The centres in Khalifa Industrial Area (KEZAD Al Ma’mourah) and ICAD (KEZAD Musaffah) will encompass a diverse commercial and retail offering, including restaurants and cafes, supermarkets, and business centres, enriching the community’s lifestyle and core amenity availability.

New Delhi, February 15, 2024: The Shapoorji Pallonji Group, one of India’s leading business houses, announces the successful completion of the first Hindu temple in the Middle East. The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi was inaugurated in person on 14th February 2024 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in a grand ceremony. This significant accomplishment marks a historic milestone in fostering cultural and religious unity, and in strengthening bilateral relations between India and the UAE.

An architectural marvel, the Mandir towers over the sandy landscape of the UAE. It is nestled in 27 acres of desert land, in the outskirts of Abu Dhabi – thanks to the generous donation of land by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

The Mandir is open to all faiths and is an initiative of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (the institution behind several Swaminarayan temples across India and the world). It is a testament to India’s culture, and to its ancient skills in architecture and sculpture. It has been built in strict accordance with age-old Indian texts and derives its inspiration from a lotus motif. It has 7 spires, which represent the 7 Emirates of the UAE.

“Our dream of building a Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi has now become a reality. Shapoorji Pallonji has played a pivotal role in partnering with us to create this lotus in the desert. We extend our gratitude to Shapoorji Pallonji for bringing to life our vision of this spiritual oasis for global harmony,” said Pranav Desai, Director of BAPS.

In this project, Shapoorji Pallonji successfully integrated modern technology such as security, lighting systems and air-conditioning with the traditional requirements of ancient Indian architecture.

The temple complex has 7 ancillary buildings, to cater to 15,000+ visitors daily. It has distinctive water features, which represent three major rivers – Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. The main temple is constructed on a raft foundation using UAE’s largest single pour of unreinforced fly-ash concrete. Instead of iron and steel reinforcements, bamboo sticks and glass fibre were used.

The temple façade is built on this foundation, using 40,000 cubic meters of marble from Italy and 1,80,000 cubic meters of pink sandstone from Rajasthan. Thousands of artisans and volunteers intricately carved the stones in Rajasthan, for BAPS. These were then put together in Abu Dhabi like a giant jig-saw puzzle.

The Shapoorji Pallonji Group, which is 159 years old, has built several landmarks across the world. It has been present in the Middle East for close to 50 years, beginning with the Sultan’s Palace in Muscat, in 1975. Some of its recent marquee projects in India are Bharat Mandapam and Kartavya Path in New Delhi, Port Blair Airport, and Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh.
