A 43-Year-Old male on dialysis for 4 years was successfully treated via Cadaver Kidney Transplant Program at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road

Mumbai: A life-saving kidney donation was conducted at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road by team led by Dr Puneet Bhuwania, Consultant Nephrologist and Dr Ashutosh Baghel, Consultant Urologist, Andrologist & Renal Transplant Surgeon, when a 73yr old brain-dead patient’s family decided to donate his organs as a part of his final wish to patients waiting in the cadaver program over years.

Mr. Saurav Mukherjee, a 43-year-old male suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) who was on dialysis for 4 years was registered with Wockhardt’s Kidney Transplant Program. While doing dialysis in Delhi, he received a chance to restart his life and got a kidney via the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) and Wockhardt’s cadaver program. He rushed to Mumbai from Delhi and after the required cross-match testing, he underwent the procedure successfully, he had a successful surgery at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, was discharged in a healthy state after 10 days, and is doing well without dialysis.

Dr. Puneet Bhuwania, Consultant Nephrologist & Transplant Physician at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road said, “The donor was a 73-year-old man who was declared brain dead due to a massive IC Bleed. Even though the donor was classified as an expanded criteria donor by the ZTCC, 6 lives could be saved by his donation – kidneys, liver, lungs, and skin were donated. Mr Sourav was one of those lucky ones to have received this gift and even though the kidney was not ideal for him, he had a successful surgery at Wockhardt Hospitals, was discharged in a healthy state after 10 days, and is doing well without dialysis. One person donating can save up to 8 lives, i e. kidneys, liver, heart, intestine, eyes, lungs, pancreas and skin. *Each year more than approximately 50,000 kidney failure patients require kidney transplant while less than 5000 patients receive a kidney transplant and the majority (75-85%) is via the living donor program due to a lack of awareness about organ donation in our country. Everybody should pledge their organs for donation as even after death we can end up saving 8 lives. It is imperative to multiply the number of cadaver donations so that more and more people on the waiting list will get organs. Organ donation is a noble act and we appeal to each and every one to do their bit for society and save lives.”

There are 2 ways a patient can get a kidney transplant, first when their blood relatives donate one kidney to them or second, they register themselves in the state cadaver transplant program list, and when their turn comes as per their rank, they get the kidney transplant.

“I was in dire need of a kidney transplant after kidney failure. I was skeptical if I would survive. But I was fortunate to get a timely kidney transplant due to limitless efforts taken by Wockhardt Hospital. I wish more and more people come forward and donate organs to save millions of lives,” concluded the patient Mr Sourav.

The event also provided an opportunity for eduCLaaS and Xprienz Vietnam to exchange signed MoUs with Army Software Park, Thai Nguyen University of Information Technology and Communication and Hong Duc University respectively for collaboration to bridge digital skills gap for inclusive workforce incubation.
After the opening remark by the Vietnamese Deputy Director General, Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET), Mr Leslie Loh – eduCLaaS Founder and CEO, delivered his plenary keynote speech entitled “Bridging the Digital Skills Gap through Innovative Learning Solutions” for sharing his observations and prescriptions for reimagining post-secondary education toward becoming a global common good, by fostering a tripartite partnership across public, private, and non-profit sectors, to deliver inclusive digital skilling for managing digital divide and rising inequality.

Kashi Tamil Sangamam, a Month-long Festival a True Example of Unity in Diversity: Chamu Krishna Shastry

Varanasi, known popularly as Kashi in Tamil Nadu, is one of the oldest living cities in the world endowed with a civilizational and cultural continuum that is unparalleled. Knowledge, philosophy, culture, language, literature, arts, and crafts have all flourished in this holy city on the banks of the Ganga. Temples and Pathashalas, eateries and pan shops situated at the Ghats, lanes, and bi-lanes of Kashi along the Ganga have been the witnesses for the daily scholarly chats and debates for thousands of years. Tamil language and its classical literature have been a great repository of Indian Knowledge Systems since the time of Tolkapiar written by Rishi Agastya. Tamil Nadu is not only a fertile land of culture, arts, crafts, etc. but also the land of temples built with the highest quality of Shilpa Shastra and marvelous architecture with mathematical precision. The Kallanai dam across the Kaveri River built during the reign of Chola King Karikalan in 150 CE, which is the oldest in India that is still in use, is an engineering wonder of that time. Both the cities, Kashi and Kanchi, had Vishwavidyalaya, the highest seats of learning since ancient times. From times immemorial, if Kashi was the aspirational city of higher education, Tamil Nadu was the aspirational land of applied knowledge. If Kashi saw the zenith of Pandita Parampara, Tamil Nadu saw the peak of Tamil ilakkiaparambarai (Tamil literary tradition). These are only a few illustrations to show how the two regions of Bharat, Kashi, and Tamil Nadu were the cradles of the Knowledge Heritage of India.

All the above foundations of the rich heritage of Bharat were nurtured and cherished at the banks of both Ganga and Kaveri. From Varanasi to Rameshwaram, all the languages and their literature have been the fountainhead of an all-inclusive cultural inspiration and the greatest bonds of unity and harmony among the people. Seeing and understanding this unique manifestation of InKashi Tamil Sangamamdia’s civilizational treasure is the pathway to experience and appreciate the unique knowledge heritage of India which is intertwined with unity in diversity that no other country in the world can showcase. As part of the Ore Bharatham Unnadha Bharatham (Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat) Vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Kashi Tamil Sangamam will further strengthen the common experience, appreciation, and bonds amongst the people of Tamil Nadu and Varanasi.

Kashi Tamil Sangamam, a month-long festival starting from November 17th to 16th December, which happens to be Tamil Kartiga Maasam, is being organised by the Ministry of Education under the guidance of Hon’ble Minister of Education Dr. Dharmendra Pradhan ji. IIT Madras through its website www.kashitamil.iitm.ac.in selects and sends altogether 2500 delegates to Varanasi in 12 groups, about 210 in each group, namely Students, Artisans, Literature, Spiritual, Business, Teacher, Heritage, Entrepreneurs, Professional, Temple, Rural and Culture. Banaras Hindu University is hosting the Sangamam festival in its campus. 12 seminars will be organised pertaining to the subject domain of each group for interaction between scholars, experts, and practitioners to exchange their expertise and best practices and to learn from each other. Cultural programs will be held everyday evening throughout the month showcasing all forms of arts of Tamil Nadu including both classical and folk. Exhibitions and sales stalls of all types of handicrafts, handlooms and unique products of Tamil Nadu and Stalls of Classical Tamil Texts with translation in Hindi and other languages will be another attraction of the festival. However, the food courts of Tamil Nadu Cuisine will be the star attraction. Workshops, Lecdems, Book releases, etc. will also be held at the festival venue. Seminars and workshops will be held in Vishwanath Corridor and Trade Facilitation Centre also.

Each group of delegates will visit Vishwanath Mandir and the Corridor, Ganga Arathi, Ghats through Cruse, Subramania Bharati house, Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition in TFC, and other important places in Varanasi and Saranath for two days. Subsequently, they will visit Prayag Raj and Ayodhya. Other than the delegates, many experts and opinion leaders from Tamil Nadu are invited.

Bharat is the land of many languages. Bharatiya languages are the cradles of our civilization. Tamil is one of the oldest languages in the world. Its knowledge and cultural heritage are one of the richest in the world. Tamil’s contribution to the development, sustenance, unity, and harmony of India is unparalleled.

Bharatiya languages coexisted, complemented and nurtured each other throughout the ages. Languages shape the mind and wisdom of society. Languages bring people together. India is a multilingual society. It is necessary for the citizens to know and understand various Indian languages and its rich literature, culture and thoughts.

Languages, mutually respected, learned, complemented, and open-heartedly embraced by their speakers, are the medium to pass on the shared experiences of the people from one generation to another, from one region to another, and from learning to the common mass. Kashi Tamil Sangamam is a historic event. It is going to be epoch-making. CMR University to innovate youth-led solutions at UNLEASH Global Innovation Lab India 2022

Bengaluru (India), 02nd December 2022: Three students and two faculty members from CMR University (CMRU) in Bengaluru are among the 1,000 global talents selected from over 19,000 applications across 100+ countries by UNLEASH – a Denmark-based non-profit organization with a mission to provide the youth an opportunity to create innovative and scalable solutions to help attain the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The selected students are Aastha Das, Mohammed Omer, and P Likhith Reddy (2nd-year students from the School of Engineering and Technology) and Vindhya Umapathy and Shirley Elizabeth Mathew (Design Thinking Facilitators, Dept. of Common Core Curriculum).

The participants were selected based on their application and assessment of their motivation, ability to think critically and creatively about sustainability issues; and openness to collaborate and collectively co-create solutions. The selected talents from across the world will participate in the Global Innovation Lab 2022 which will be held in India for the first time at the Infosys campus in Mysuru from December 3rd to 10th. The participants will come up with new ideas and co-create innovative solutions through a human-centered Design Thinking approach.

With a vision “To nurture creative thinkers who will drive positive global change”, CMR University has integrated Design Thinking as a mandatory credit course across all its Schools of Studies through the Common Core Curriculum (CCC) as it believes that students who are equipped with design thinking skills, develop an ability to deeply understand complex real-life problems in various walks of life and come up with innovative and feasible solutions. CMRU has also integrated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its curriculum with an aim to consciously reform economies and communities, making them more inclusive, and environmentally conscious.

Tenable Research Finds 72% of Organizations Remain Vulnerable to “Nightmare” Log4j Vulnerability

Mumbai, December 2, 2022 – Tenable®, the Exposure Management company, today announced the results of a telemetry study examining the scope and impact of the critical Log4j vulnerability, known as Log4Shell, in the months following its initial disclosure. According to the data collected from over 500 million tests, 72% of organizations remain vulnerable to the Log4Shell vulnerability as of October 1, 2022. The data highlights legacy vulnerability remediation challenges, which are the root cause of the majority of data breaches.

When Log4Shell was discovered in December 2021, organizations around the world scrambled to determine their risk. In the weeks following its disclosure, organizations significantly reallocated resources and invested tens of thousands of hours to identification and remediation efforts. One federal cabinet department reported that its security team devoted 33,000 hours to Log4j vulnerability response alone.

Tenable telemetry found that one in 10 assets1 was vulnerable to Log4Shell as of December 2021, including a wide range of servers, web applications, containers and IoT devices. October 2022 data showed improvements, with 2.5% of assets vulnerable. Yet nearly one third (29%) of these assets had recurrences of Log4Shell after full remediation was achieved.

“Full remediation is very difficult to achieve for a vulnerability that is so pervasive and it’s important to keep in mind that vulnerability remediation is not a ‘one and done’ process,” said Bob Huber, chief security officer, Tenable. “While an organization may have been fully remediated at some point, as they’ve added new assets to their environments, they are likely to encounter Log4Shell again and again. Eradicating Log4Shell is an ongoing battle that calls for organizations to continually assess their environments for the flaw, as well as other known vulnerabilities.”

Other key findings from the data include:

28% of organizations across the globe have fully remediated Log4Shell as of October 1, 2022, a 14-point improvement from May 2022.
53% of organizations were vulnerable to Log4j during the time period of the study, which underscores the pervasive nature of Log4j and the necessary ongoing efforts to remediate even if full remediation was previously achieved.
As of October 2022, 29% of vulnerable assets saw the reintroduction of Log4Shell after full remediation was achieved.
Some industries are in better shape than others, with engineering (45%), legal services (38%), financial services (35%), non-profit (33%) and government (30%) leading the pack with the most organizations fully remediated. Approximately 28% of CISA-defined critical infrastructure organizations have fully remediated.
Nearly one third of North American organizations have fully remediated Log4j (28%), followed by Europe, Middle East and Africa (27%), Asia-Pacific (25%) and Latin America (21%).
Similarly, North America is the top region with the percentage of organizations that have partially remediated (90%), Europe, Middle East and Africa (85%), Asia-Pacific (85%), and Latin America (81%).
