NMDC Salutes the Spirit of Women on IWD 2021

Hyderabad: Women play a significant role in the progress of society and NMDC, the country’s largest Iron Ore producer, celebrated this thought on International Women’s Day at Hyderabad, by felicitating two achievers from diverse fields – Smt. Kinnera Murthy and Ms. Cholleti Sahajasri.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest, Smt. Kinnera Murthy, Strategy Consultant & Former Dean, ASCI, said, “The COVID situation has hit many people hard and it is our duty to empower women and help them get back to employment. We must go beyond our limits to help each other and normalise women participation in all spheres.”

Motivating the women employees on this occasion Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC, said “Last year was difficult for all of us due to Covid-19, but we pulled through because of our resilience and ability to work together. Women are indispensable to NMDC, based purely on their achievements and it is my pleasure to appreciate their contribution to this organisation. The UN’s theme of ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world’ to celebrate the tremendous effort of women during the crisis and road to recovery, will help us celebrate the decisiveness, effectiveness and compassion demonstrated by women this whole year. We were witness to this ingenuity and empathy first-hand, and I am glad to be a part of such an organisation. We at NMDC want to ensure women everywhere have a journey which is equal and empowered.”

The functional directors of NMDC Shri P.K. Satpathy, Director (Production), Shri Somnath Nandi, Director (Technical), were present and also emphasised the importance of women in every sphere of life and how women were the stronger force during the crisis of COVID-19. They focused on preparedness for women employment in mining sector in the future.

Ms. Cholleti Sahajasri, First Woman International Chess Master from Telangana, said “The credit of my achievements goes to my parents and my teachers for guiding and inspiring me to participate in various sports activities. Their support has been of great help to me to balance all the stress and I request all the parents to believe in their children and look after their physical and mental health. I request here to encourage their children to participate in co-curricular activities along with their studies.”

NMDC also distributed COVID-19 kits, water bottles and fruits to around 150 under privileged girls in the Radha Kishan Home at Nanal Nagar, Hyderabad. NMDC also provides opportunities for women through CSR programmes such as Balika Shiksha Yojana and empowers them through skill development programmes. NMDC started programmes like ‘Umang’ to create awareness among women and young girls to counter poor and menstrual hygiene practices in the tribal areas.

The event ended with various indoor games and cultural programmes performed by women employees and apprentice girls. NMDC directors presented special mementoes to the women participants.

NMDC achieves best ever Production and Sales in February

Hyderabad: NMDC, the country’s largest Iron Ore producer, has witnessed a spectacular growth during the month of February 2021 both in production and sales performance over the CPLY.

Iron ore production for the month of February 2021 stands at 3.86 MT as against the 3.24 MT of ore mined in the corresponding month in February 2020, and registered a growth of 19% over the same.

Sales during the period of February 2021 increased by 12% at 3.25 MT as against the 2.91 MT done in the month of February 2020.

The Bailadila Projects at Chhattisgarh has produced 3.15 MT in February 2021 as compared to last year’s production of 2.93 MT in the month of February, and registered a growth of 8% in production.

The total sales of iron ore from Bailadila projects in the month of February 2021 is 2.62 MT against 2.42 MT in February 2020, which is 8% higher than the previous year.

Speaking about the production and sales numbers of February 2021, Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC, commented, “These production and sales figures definitely display NMDC’s strong character to bounce back in spite of operational challenges. This achievement is possible only due to the hard-work and commitment demonstrated by the employees. We foresee a gradual rise in numbers and will continue to set new records.”

NMDC has recently restarted the operations at Donimalai mines. The mines have a capacity to produce a minimum of 0.5 MT of iron ore per month and the overall performance of the company will be further enhanced with the resumption of operations in Donimalai.

Hyderabad: NMDC, the country’s largest Iron Ore producer, and a Navratna CPSU was awarded the Business Leader of the Year, PSU sector in organizational category for CSR Initiatives (Social Development) and the Best CSR Practices category, at the World CSR Day & Congress on 17th and 18th February, 2021 at Mumbai.

World Leadership Congress & World CSR Congress recognize Business leaders, the efforts and commitments of leaders and organizations that improve social effectiveness. The 29th edition of the award saw huge participation from global dignitaries and visionaries from over 133 countries. The Business leader of the Year, PSU Sector in organizational category, for CSR Initiatives (Social Development) Award was received by Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC.

The awards recognise the role that organisations in India play in providing a more sustainable and equitable society. The beneficiaries are mostly the underprivileged communities staying in proximity of NMDC operations, which are mostly in remote areas. In January this year NMDC won the Platinum Award in Metal & Mining for Shiksha Sahayog Yojana for their education-led CSR initiatives in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Hyderabad: The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to India, H.E. Mr. Yerlan Alimbayev, today visited NMDC, the country’s largest Iron Ore producing Navratna Company. He met Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC, Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance), and Shri Somnath Nandi, Director (Technical) to discuss ways to leverage NMDC’s capabilities to further strengthen the Kazakh mining industry, including a plan to focus on strengthening the strategic partnership with high-level visits and mutual collaborations.

Kazakhstan remains one of the world’s most promising emerging markets for natural resources and is one of the 10 leading countries in the world for mineral reserves. Kazakhstan is currently the world’s leading producer of uranium, and possesses vast reserves of chrome, copper, manganese, iron, lead, and zinc, according to official estimates.

NMDC, with its vast experience of over 60 years in mining industry is well poised to invest in Kazakhstan’s mineral deposit, which are near operating stage.

Speaking on the visit, Shri Sumit Deb, CMD – NMDC, commented, “We are very happy to host HE Ambassador Alimbayev. We had very fruitful discussions and have decided to explore mutual collaboration opportunities in many promising prospects of bilateral interest. Kazakhstan is a resource rich country and NMDC would love to share its expertise in this space with Kazakh companies.”

NMDC delivers a strong quarter: Excellent performance in Q3 of FY21

Hyderabad: NMDC, the country’s largest Iron Ore producing Navratna Company delivered another strong operating and financial performance in this quarter.

NMDC’s turnover during the 3rd quarter of 2020-21 is Rs.4,355 crore as against the turnover of Rs.3,006 crore of the CPLY which is 45% more than CPLY. The turnover in this quarter is the best ever for any quarter for NMDC since inception. NMDC’s Profit Before Tax (PBT) for the Q3 of 2020-21 is Rs.2,811 crore against Rs.1,647 crore during Q3 of 2019-20 by 71% over CPLY. The Profit After Tax (PAT) for Q3 of 2020-21 increased by 53% to Rs.2,109 crores against Rs. 1,376 crore during Q3 of 2019-20.

NMDC produced 9.60 million tonnes (MT) and sold 9.28 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore in the third quarter of FY21. Despite COVID induced adversities, iron ore production and sales figures for the nine months of the financial year 2020-21 are at par with nine months of the previous financial year.

NMDC sets new production records in the New Year

Hyderabad: NMDC, the country’s largest Iron Ore producer, and a Navratna CPSE, after a remarkable performance in the crisis year of 2020 has continued with its excellent performance in the first month of the year 2021.

Iron ore production for the month of January 2021 stood at3.86MT (Million Tons)against the production level of 3.31 MT in January 2020, thereby registering a growth of 16.7%. January 2021 production and sales are the highest ever January production and sales since the inception of NMDC. On 31st January 2021, NMDC was able to achieve production of 1.65 lakh tonnes on a single day which is the highest for any day in this financial year.

Iron ore sales for the month of January 2021is 3.74MT against the sales level of 2.96MT in January 2020, thereby registering a growth of 26.4%.

Iron ore production upto January in FY21 is 25.66 MT i.e. at par with CPLY. Similarly iron ore sales upto January in FY21 is 26.01 MT which is above CPLY, inspite of COVID-19pandemic this year.

With the encouraging production and salesfigures this year,NMDCwill exceed the production and sales of the previous year. The steady performance in 2020-21 despite the problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the continuous improvement in performance showcases the determination and grit of Team NMDC.

Speaking about the production achievements, Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC, commented,“NMDC is on its way to exceed and maintain its leadership in the industry. We performed remarkably well during the crisis of 2020 and with modern processes being implemented we are confident to do even better. NMDC is the first PSE to implement SAP S4 HANA making us frontrunners in the digital transformation of the mining industry. I congratulate Team NMDC for the excellent performance and I have faith that going forward we will continue to break new grounds.”

Shri Deb commenting on the budget said “This Union Budget has given thrust on infrastructure, along with manufacturing. This will drive the demand for steel which in turn will drive the demand for iron ore. NMDC with its 7 operational iron ore mines is committed to meet the increased demand of iron ore in the country.With higher spending in these sectors, the Budget has taken steps in the right direction to continue reviving the economy. This shall further increase employment opportunities in the country through private and public investments that was paved through the boost on infrastructure and other sectors.”

Hyderabad: NMDC, India’s largest iron-ore miner and a Navaratna PSE celebrated the 72nd Republic Day with patriotic fervour, following strict Covid protocols and maintaining social distancing.The programme commenced with flag hoisting by Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC. As a part of celebration,30 minutes programmewas conducted which also went live on social media handles.Along with Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC, Shri P.K. Satpathy, Director – Production, Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance), Shri Alok Kumar Mehta, Director (Commercial) and Shri V.V.S. Sreenivas, CVO were also present on this occasion.

Speaking on this occasion, Shri Deb said that “This was a challenging year and while the pandemic had an effect on our production at first,we have treated this challenge posed by the pandemic as an opportunity to sustain production volumes and upgrade our production process. In line with the thoughts of our constitution, as an organisation, NMDC have worked towards improving the lives of people living near the mines by empowering women facilitating access to healthcare,and transformational impact on education.” He also emphasised NMDC has taken forward the vision to help India emerge as a global power in mining with a positive thrust on social development.

NMDC invited the winners of the online Chess Tournament and Drawing Competition conducted on their 63rd Foundation Day. In the spirit of encouraging young children – the future of our country – NMDC felicitated the winners and showcased their paintings in the Art Gallery.

Ensuring COVID-19 restrictions, few indoor games were conducted prior to the Republic Day. The witnners of various games were awarded with prizes by the dignitaries.

NMDC becomes first PSE to introduce ERP on SAP – S/4 HANA platform

Hyderabad: NMDC, India’s largest iron-ore miner, and a Navaratna PSE today announced the implementation of SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution. This solution will help to integrate and consolidate all the business processes end-to-end and will lead to an improvement in operational efficiency.

The go-live event was flagged off today by Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC and graced by Shri P.K. Satpathy, Director (Production), Shri Amitava Mukharjee, Director (Finance), Shri Alok Kumar Mehta, Director (Commercial), Shri Somnath Nandi, Director (Technical) and other senior officers of NMDC and Senior Executives of Implementation Partner, Accenture and Project Management Consultant (PMC), Deloitte.

NMDC decided to implement ERP to improve performances in areas like Production, Procurement, Dispatch Management, Inventory Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, etc. It will also result in better transparency, ease of doing business, and an overall improvement in customer satisfaction.

Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC on this occasion said “NMDC has always been in the forefront in enhancing economic & social values and simultaneously focusing on optimum utilization of resources by adopting latest technological initiatives. The ERP will place NMDC in a different league in the mining sector. He also mentioned that NMDC will be the first CPSE to implement ERP solutions on the most advanced platform SAP – S/4 HANA, on such a large scale, with over 2000 professional user licenses together with industry solutions for mining and steel.”

This project has been implemented under the guidance of Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance). Speaking on the occasion, he said, the ERP system is not just to secure NMDC’s future, but also displays our commitment to stakeholders and bring in more transparency in our business operations. This new ERP system will also form a backbone for future digital initiatives. He further mentioned that in spite of additional challenges on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Go-Live has been accomplished in 21 months.

NMDC Collaborates with Santhigiri Ashram, Hyderabad

Hyderabad: NMDC, the country’s largest Iron Ore producer, and a Navratna Company, has signed an MoU with M/s. Santhigiri Institute of Paramedical Sciences (a Unit of Santhigiri Ashram, Thiruvananthapuram) to implement the joint initiative of preventive healthcare, by promoting herbal sapling plantation movement in Schools in Telangana.

The agreement was signed between NMDC and M/s. Santhigiri Institute of Paramedical Sciences, in the presence of Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC, Shri Pranavasudhan, Incharge, Santhigiri Institute, Hyderabad, Shri P.K. Satpathy, Director (Production), Shri Amitava Mukharjee, Director (Finance), Shri Alok Kumar Mehta, Director (Commercial), Shri Somnath Nandi, Director (Technical), Senior officers of NMDC and members of Santhigiri Institute at NMDC today.

NMDC FUNDS 10 MOBILE MEDICAL UNITS IN BALLARI DISTRICT, KARNATAKA

Karnataka: Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC flagged off 10 Mobile Medical Units (MMU) to facilitate access to public healthcare in Sandur and Hospet taluks, at Donimalai Complex Karnataka on January 2, 2021. The ceremony was attended by Shri Devendrappa, MP Ballari; Shri E. Tukaram, MLA Sandur; Shri S.S. Nakul, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Ballari; Smt K.R. Nandini, IAS CEO Zilla Panchayat, Ballari; and Shri P.K. Satpathy, Director (Production), NMDC; Shri Sanjeev Sahi, CGM Donimalai Complex, NMDC.

The operation of MMU was instituted by Shri S.S. Nakul, Deputy Commissioner Ballari. NMDC LImited partnered with state authorities to provide the requisite funds for the operation of 10 Mobile Medical Units. NMDC has devoted a budget of INR 10.26 Crores for 3 years out of which INR 171 Lakhs was released as the first instalment. The Mobile Medical Units, natively called Amrutha Vahini, will provide basic healthcare facilities at the doorstep of people living in remote, vulnerable, and under-served regions.

Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC said, “NMDC makes sincere efforts to improve the quality of life and health outcomes of people living in and around the mines. Taking a step further in this direction, the Mobile Medical Units will increase accessibility of medical care in remote areas like Sandur and Hospet. We are grateful to the state authorities for this noble opportunity and their cooperation.”
