Hyderabad FC, ATKMB face-off in big clash at Fatorda

Goa: After seeing off 2021 with a resounding 6-1 victory over Odisha FC, Hyderabad FC are back in action in the Indian Super League for the first time in the new year when they take on ATK Mohun Bagan in an away game at Fatorda on Wednesday.

Currently 2nd in the league table, HFC have 15 points from eight games while ATKMB has 14 points from their eight games and stand in the 4th position, making this game a crucial one for either side as three points takes the winner to the summit.

After a strong start to the campaign, ATKMB had a tough run of results. A change in leadership followed when they roped in Juan Ferrando from Goa after their clash against Hyderabad. The Spaniard is into this third game as the coach of the Kolkata-based side and HFC Head Coach Manolo Marquez believes that he will take time to implement his system at ATKMB.

“Juan Ferrando is a very good coach, but he has just arrived at the club. He has had more time to work with the team now and he will try to change something but at the moment, they are similar to their time under the previous coach,” said Manolo.

“Ferrando will try to change the style but this takes time. ATKMB are a big team and for sure, they will fight for the title,” he added.

The Mariners have the likes of Liston Colaco, Hugo Boumous, Roy Krishna and Manvir Singh in fine form in front of goal. Pritam Kotal, Tiri and Carl McHugh add balance to the side and will be a tough team to face on Wednesday.

“When you play against strong teams, every detail is important. Liston, Roy Krishna, Manvir, Williams are all dangerous players in open play and set-pieces,” said Manolo.

“But we have to control the game and try to stick to our style of play. We cannot go to the game and try to defend these players and wait for that one chance. We have to stick to our style and play at our best,” he added.

The HFC Head Coach also revealed that Halicharan Narzary remains the only player sidelined for this game with the injury. ATK Mohun Bagan has no new injury issues to worry about either, ahead of this clash.

Speaking about the game, Manolo Marquez further added, “ATKMB are a strong side but we cannot change our style for this game. Both teams will have chances to win and we will give our best.”

The hosts are fresh from back-to-back wins over FC Goa and NorthEast United and will be high on confidence going into this game. Meanwhile, Hyderabad FC is also in good form, and are unbeaten in their last seven league games, while they also have the best defence in the league at this stage.

Bartholomew Ogbeche will look to add to his goals to take back the lead in the ISL Golden Boot race while former HFC player Liston Colaco will want to keep up his form and continue to lead the charts for Indian goal scorers this season.

The game kicks off at 7:30 pm IST on Wednesday and will be telecasted live on the Star Sports Network with live streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and JioTV.

Hyderabad takes on Chennaiyin FC in first game of 2021

Hyderabad takes on Chennaiyin FC in first game of 2021

Panaji, Goa: After a run of unlucky results, Hyderabad FC is back in action, when they face Chennaiyin FC at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, on Monday night. Playing their first of seven games in the month of January, Hyderabad, which is currently eighth in the standings, is likely to put in a stronger performance in this game, to move closer to the top-4 spots.

Chennaiyin, who are seventh in the league table, just a point above Hyderabad, have been in decent form lately. They are unbeaten in the last four games heading into this clash and will pose a strong challenge on Monday.

“Chennai have a really brave coach and are a dangerous side, with a lot of quality players all around the field. I was really impressed by their performance in the first half against FC Goa and I am sure they will be a tough side to play against, tomorrow,” said Manolo, speaking about the game ahead.

Csaba Laszlo has a strong squad at his disposal. He could miss the services of Rafael Crivellaro who is doubtful for Monday. But the manager has a good mix of Indian talent and foreign experience to choose from.

Lallianzuala Chhangte, Eli Sabia, Enes Sipovic, Anirudh Thapa and Jakub Sylvestr have all played a crucial role in the recent results for Chennaiyin and could be the danger men for Hyderabad in this game. The return of Esma Goncalves (Isma) will also provide the coach with some options for his starting XI.

“Like a couple of other teams in the ISL this season, I think Chennaiyin deserve more points than they have on the league table. They have a strong attack and are dangerous in set-piece with the likes of Sabia, Sipovic, Deepak Tangri and Memo ready to cause problems to the opponents,” said, the HFC Head Coach.

Manolo Marquez, on the other hand, has players returning from injury. The HFC Head Coach is yet to name a Starting XI with five overseas players since the second-round clash against Bengaluru, but against Chennaiyin, he does have an option to start up to five of them and we will have to wait to see how he sets up his side.

The likes of Joel Chianese and Lluis Sastre played a half each against FC Goa in the last game while Fran Sandaza has looked lively, coming off the bench in the last two games. With the additions of these players, Hyderabad will aim for a stronger performance against their South Indian neighbors.

However, Manolo revealed that two of HFC’s players may yet miss the game on Monday. “Nikhil (Poojary) is not ready to play. Liston (Colaco) can play, but he is not 100% and we need to assess the risks involved in playing him, before we can include him in the squad,” he said.

With both teams just a couple of good results away from breaking into the top-4, this game is a real chance for either side to not only start the new year with a positive result but to make sure that they can push for qualification, come the end of the season.

“Football is an unpredictable game. Yes, things did not go our way in the last few games. So, maybe there will be a few tactical changes against Chennaiyin,” said Manolo, when asked about his side’s preparations for this game.

The game kicks off at 7:30 pm on Monday and will be telecasted live on the Star Sports Network with live streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and JioTV.

Hyderabad FC go down 0-2 to Kerala

Bambolim, Goa: Hyderabad FC faced their second defeat of the Indian Super League season as they fell to a 2-0 loss to Kerala Blasters at Bambolim on Sunday. Goals from Abdul Hakku and Jordan Murray in either half meant that Hyderabad missed their opportunity to break into the top-4.

For the second game running, Manolo Marquez’s men failed to find the net, and will remain eighth in the league table, with nine points from the first seven league games.

The hosts started the game full of energy, pressing the HFC backline and forcing a few mistakes. A couple of half chances fell Kerala’s way but the break through came just before the half-four mark after Hakku lost his marker, Asish Rai to head home from a Facundo Pereyra’s corner.

The award of the corner was controversial, as it seemed to have last gone off a KBFC head but there was nothing the Hyderabad defenders could do, as the visitors took the lead in the 29th minute.

Hyderabad finished the half strongly, with a couple of chances falling to Aridane Santana. But the Spaniard lacked the killer instinct in front of goal, and failed to capitalize and test Albino Gomes.

The second half also started well for Hyderabad, who managed to push Kerala back for a prolonged period but they failed to create enough clear chances to get back into the game.

Manolo Marquez tried to shake things up and brought on the likes of Danmawia Ralte and Fran Sandaza, who came on for his ISL debut, and though the duo had a couple of exciting moments, HFC did not do enough to get the ball in the back of the net.

A dazzling run from Sandaza and a few last-ditch blocks from the backline were the best moments of the game for Hyderabad. But as they pushed for an equalizer, an instinctive finish from Murray in the 88th minute at the other end added a second for the hosts.

HFC do not have too long to dwell on this result as they are back in action when they face FC Goa at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco on Wednesday, the 30th of December
