MAHE’s Yakshagana Documentary Reaches Semi-Finals at LA World Culture Film Festival 2024

Manipal, June 25th , 2024: A documentary on Yakshagana, a traditional art form from coastal Karnataka, has received notable international acclaim. Produced by the Centre for Intercultural Studies and Dialogue (CISD) at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), the film has been selected as a Semi-Finalist at the prestigious World Culture Film Festival 2024 in Los Angeles, USA. The festival will take place from July 27 to 28, 2024.

This documentary is part of the CISD project “Discerning India: Living Cultures of Tulunadu.” It was chosen from a large pool of submissions from over 40 countries, showcasing its cultural significance and value. The film highlights the rich cultural heritage of Yakshagana, a vibrant traditional art form native to the coastal districts of Karnataka and Kasaragod district of Kerala, India.

The project was produced under the CISD initiative “Discerning India: Living Cultures of Tulunadu,” led by Manipal Academy of General Education. CISD, based at the Manipal Centre for European Studies, focuses on promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding. The award-winning documentary is part of a larger effort to create a repository of local cultural knowledge and educate people about the unique traditions of Tulunadu. So far, documentaries made under CISD have received 11 Official selections at different international film festivals.

The Yakshagana documentary was directed by Dr. Praveen Shetty and Mr. Nitesh Anchan from CISD, MAHE. It explores the multifaceted relevance of this traditional art form and its importance to the local culture. Previously, the documentary received the Jury Award at the Sixth International Short Film Festival on Cultural Tourism in Varanasi in December 2023 and the Best Scriptwriting Award from the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC)-UGC, New Delhi, in April 2023.

CODE-AI: An International Conference on Data Science & Exploration in Artificial Intelligence with MAHE Bengaluru

Bengaluru, 17 June 2024: Manipal Institute of Technology, a constituent institute of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Bengaluru, is proud to host CODE-AI, powered by CGI and in collaboration with Linnaeus University, Sweden, and SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland) on the 3rd and 4th of July at their campus in Bengaluru.

At the event, experts will share insights on data science and AI, such as latest advancements and ethics, cutting edge research, and the future of AI and Data Science. CODE-AI will be an international conference on Data Science and Exploration in Artificial Intelligence which invites Data Science and Artificial Intelligence enthusiasts to explore the latest advancements and ethical considerations in these fields as well as cutting edge research insights and networking opportunities.

Event also called for paper submissions on Data Science, Industrial Applications, IoT, Security, and Cloud Networking among others. From the 734 papers submitted, 203 papers have been accepted that will be presented on the day of event.

Prof. Dr. Francesco Flammini, Professor of Trustworthy Autonomous Systems, Head of Bachelor in Data Science and AI, University of Applied Sciences and Art of South Switzerland (SUPSI), Switzerland, Dr. Kamal Das, IBM Research, Bengaluru, India and Dr. Sandip Chakraborty, Associate Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT, Kharagpur will be present as keynote and plenary speakers.

Participants will be felicitated with Best Paper Award, Best Paper Award in the Category of SDG, Best Student Paper Award, Women in Engineering (WiE) and Best Presenter Award.

MAHE Celebrates Special Convocation for Conferment of Honorary Doctorate to Shri K. V. Kamath

Manipal, 30 April 2024: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Deemed to be University, one of India’s leading research-focused educational institutions, held a special convocation for conferring an honorary doctorate to Shri K. V. Kamath, Chairman of National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) & Chairman of Jio Financial Services Ltd. on Monday, 29 April 2024. Special Convocation for Conferment of Honorary Doctorate to Shri K. V. Kamath

Shri K. V. Kamath, currently serving as the Chairman of National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) & Chairman of Jio Financial Services Ltd., is a visionary leader and pioneer in the field of banking and finance. His contributions have not only transformed industries in India but have also had an impact on the global financial landscape, setting new benchmarks for the industry. His remarkable trajectory – previously serving as Chairman of the New Development Bank (NDB) and Chairman of ICICI Bank – marked by exemplary leadership, strategic acumen, and innovation, is a testament to his academic and administrative excellence. Beyond his professional achievements, Mr Kamath is deeply committed to social responsibility and sustainable development. He has been instrumental in promoting inclusive growth, environmental sustainability, and corporate social responsibility practices throughout his career.

Manipal International Nursing Research Conclave (MINRC) – Virtual is organised by Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal from January 19 to 22, 2022. The inauguration of the conference was held on 19th January 2022 at the Dr. TMA Pai Auditorium, KMC, Manipal in a blended mode.

The Chief Guest of the program Dr. Punitha Ezhilarasu, Consultant, Indian Nursing Council, Former Dean & Professor, College of Nursing, Christian Medical College, Vellore, in her address, highlighted on translational research in various sectors by adopting best practices and implementing high quality research. She also stressed on the importance of Research in Nursing.  She further said, nursing leaders have to involve themselves in nursing research, which in future will assist in taking health care decisions while designing health policies.

Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal in his presidential address, accentuated the need for research in academic institutions, especially in the health care sciences.  He emphasised that the key for successful research is perseverance, networking and interdisciplinary collaboration. He encouraged the young health professionals to carry out more innovative research in health care field and community set up.  He congratulated the entire team of MCON for organising the conference which is useful and relevant for the current times.

Dr. Judith Angelitta Noronha, Dean and Organizing Chairperson – MINRC, MCON, MAHE, Manipal presented the welcome address and introduced the Chief Guest Dr. Punitha Ezhilarasu and presiding officer of the conference Lt. Gen. (Dr.) VenkateshDr. Mamatha S Pai, Professor & Organizing Secretary – MINRC, Department of Child Health (Paediatric) Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal elucidated the overview of the conclave.

The inauguration program was concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi K, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. The event was hosted by Ms. Edith Jovita Bangera, Assistant Lecturer, Manipal School of Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.

The conclave started with the plenary session on “Translational Research” by Dr Anice George, Professor, Department of Child Health (Paediatric) Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. She highlighted the roadmap of translation research, phases of clinical research, translational spectrum and the various models and barriers and enablers of translational research.

The Manipal International Nursing Research Conclave will be having scientific sessions by leading speakers from across the globe on all the four days including Oration and paper & poster presentations.
