M3M Foundation distributes 2000 blankets to the underprivileged to help them beat the cold wave

Gurugram: As the cold wave grips Gurugram, M3M Foundation has distributed 2000 blankets to the marginalized section of the society at various construction sites and labour camps in Gurugram. The objective of the initiative was to provide relief to the less privileged community from the biting cold and alleviate their hardships. Under the initiative ‘Kartavya’, the beneficiaries comprised the marginalized families of construction workers at Gurugram as well as the M3M’s domestic staff, labourers and their families.

iMpower is the joint initiative by M3M Foundation and Aide et Action. It aims to build a community-led Worksite Upliftment Programme in identified worksites of M3M in Gurgaon district through ensuring their entitlements to basic requirements such as education, health, skill development, women empowerment, financial and social security, legal aid and their access to State and Central welfare schemes.

Gurugram, December 11, 2020: M3M Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the M3M Group, has won Bronze awards at the 7th National CSR E-Summit & awards 2020. These awards were conferred for the Foundation’s exemplary contribution in two categories- education and COVID-19. The objective of the event was to honour entities and personalities who have made remarkable contributions in giving back to the society. Organized by CSR Times, the event witnessed a total of 54 awards (including 4 Editors’ choice awards) in 17 categories such as education, healthcare, skill development, women empowerment, water conservation and management, among others. The award witnessed the august presence of Sh. Santosh Gangwar, Hon’ble Union Minister for Labour & Empowerment, Govt of India as the Chief Guest.

On the occasion, Dr. Payal Kanodia, Trustee, M3M Foundation, said- “I would like to extend my gratitude to the jury members for honouring our efforts to bring about a change in the education sector and for augmenting government efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe in democratic access to education for all sections of society, and we are deploying innovative approaches to facilitate access to education for the underprivileged. We are delighted to see the positive outcome of our endeavours.”

The winners were decided after a two-step process- the screening round and the jury round. The jury comprised renowned personalities from diverse walks of life such as Hon’ble Justice Arjan Kr Sikri, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, Stuti Kacker, Former Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, A K Tyagi, Former Chairman, Mecon Limited, Lov Verma, Former Health Secretary, Dr. Ashutosh Karnatak, Former CMD-GAIL, Member (Technical) APTEL, Government of India and Rear Admiral S K Mital, Member – PESB of India.

M3M Foundation was awarded in the two categories- Education and outstanding work during COVID-19. In the field of education, Haryana government has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M3M Foundation to facilitate online preparation, training and mentoring of students preparing for government jobs. The objective of the MoU is to build and strengthen the partnership between both institutions to enable students to access quality preparation for entrance examinations of government jobs. M3M Foundation has also launched the SAAKSHAR initiative to provide scholarships to students hailing from the marginalized sections of society.

Amid the lockdown, lakhs of migrant workers were stranded across the nation due to the suspension of transportation. At this critical juncture, M3M Foundation emerged as their formidable support system. Foundation was able to retain more than 90% of labourers at Gurugram. Amid the pandemic, the Foundation also launched ‘Kartavya’- a food and nutrition programme to cater to 2 lakh people, including 8000 migrant workers along with their families at M3M worksites. In collaboration with Iskon, it provided lunch to all the construction workers at all M3M sites. Fumigation and sanitization of the camps were also undertaken. M3M Foundation has embarked on a unique environmental initiative to plant one million trees across India in the next three years. Amid the 74th Independence Day celebrations, M3M Foundation undertook a 15 day-long ‘Freedom from Hunger’ campaign to provide cooked meals to 125 underprivileged children in East Delhi.

M3M Foundation embarks on the VrikshArpan initiative; to plant 1 million trees across India in three years

M3M Foundation has kick-started its unique environmental campaign to plant 1 million trees within 3 years. It has collaborated with Plantology, a self-funded organization that is committed to increasing green cover in India, for implementation of this campaign in Manesar. About 25,000 trees have been planted at NSG Manesar. Approximately 15,000 trees have been planted at CISF, Hyderabad, 10,000 at Army Base, Meerut. About 15,617 trees were also planted at Bemta village, Sundargarh district in Odisha in the first phase and around 1200 have been planted in Gurugram.

The initiative coincides with COVID-19 that underscored the significance of sustainability and maintaining a harmonious co-existence with nature. The marginalized and vulnerable section of the society has been hardest hit by the pandemic due to joblessness, lack of access to proper hygiene and nutrition and abject poverty.

‘VrikshArpan aligns with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals- 12, 13 and 15 by 2030 and India’s vision of increasing total area under green cover to 33 per cent.

“Tree plantation entails a plethora of benefits for people at the grass-root level and is a key to heralding a socio-economic change in rural India. The initiative will also sensitize the local community on the significance of protecting the environment. As a responsible organization, we are committed to augmenting government efforts to address the challenges of environmental degradation and climate change,” said Dr. Payal Kanodia, Trustee, M3M Foundation.

In the past year, the Foundation has undertaken many initiatives in this direction. It has launched ‘iMpower’ an education and skill-development initiative that aims to build a community-led Worksite Upliftment Programme for construction workers. During the Covid-19 pandemic, it launched a project called ‘Kartavya’ to provide food and essential sanitation items to construction workers and families. To date, it has helped two lakhs of stranded people with ration and other essentials. It is reaching out to 3000 people daily under the project.

In the area of education, its work includes disbursal of liberal scholarships under its project ‘Sakshar’ to the financially deprived students and empowering the marginalized section of the society with basic digital literacy skills. In another initiative called ‘Sarvodya’, M3M Foundation plans to support and facilitate 13 villages of Orissa to become self-sustainable in the next three years.

M3M Foundation has launched a key initiative ‘Saakshar’ to support the students hailing from marginalized sections of society by providing them scholarships. Under this initiative, 4000 children in a year will be awarded scholarships, enabling them to continue education and build their careers. Launched via online platforms, the program covers beneficiaries from primary to higher education levels. These children will also be given elementary digital literacy skills under this programme.

Ms. Abha Singh, Advocate, Social Activist and Former Civil Servant was the Guest of Honour on this occasion. Mr Roop Bansal, Director, M3M awarded scholarships to 45 students in the gracious presence of dignitaries such as Dr. Payal Kanodia, Trustee, M3M Foundation, Aishwarya Bansal, Trustee, M3M Foundation, Mohit Chadha, Managing Trustee, M3M Foundation, Dr. Aishwarya Mahajan, Director – Livelihood Education at Aide et Action International, Smt. Radhika Anand, Founder of Plantology, Ms. Seema Kaushik, Deputy Director, Department of Employment, Haryana, KC Pant, CEO, Raasta NGO, and Prof. Sudhir Sinha, IRMA, Founder Director – CSR Inc, & Founder Trustee – CSR Foundation. All of them shared their strategic insights on the role of education in empowering the marginalized sections and shaping the growth trajectory of the Indian economy.

“Education is a key enabler to holistic empowerment. This initiative aims to support students hailing from marginalized sections of the society by awarding them scholarships, to cover the expenses of their education. Currently, M3M Foundation has identified 300 children to whom scholarship would be provided. ‘Saakshar’ programme also entails a component to impart basic digital literacy skills to these children. As a responsible organization, we are committed to addressing inequality in access to education by supporting the vulnerable section of the society,” said Dr. Payal Kanodia, Trustee, M3M Foundation.

“Right to education is a fundamental right. I would like to congratulate M3M Foundation for this noble initiative. This initiative will ensure that none of these children are deterred from continuing their education on account of financial hardships and lack of a support system,” said Ms. Abha Singh, Advocate, Social Activist and Former Civil Servant.

Shantanu Tyagi, who received a scholarship to pursue M.Tech from IIT Delhi said, “M3M Foundation has provided me a scholarship which has solved significant financial challenges in my career. Thank you M3M Foundation for this necessary support.”

Also under SAAKSHAR, M3M Foundation has donated NCERT Books and 15 computers to NGO-Rasta for 300 girl-children. Moreover, CBSE Books were donated to Guru Nanak Dev Sansthan falls & Jay Gurukool Kids NGOs.

Recently, the Haryana Government inked MoU with M3M Foundation to facilitate students’ online preparation for government jobs. The MoU aligns with the Haryana government’s vision to link one lakh candidates to government jobs in two years. Within a month from signing the MoU with Haryana Govt., M3M Foundation has completed the first phase of the registration process under the initiative “Saksham Udaan”. The registration of remaining 30,000 students will be completed in two batches, by the end of this year.

M3M Foundation embarks on an initiative to rehabilitate Bihar flood victims

Gurugram, 19th September 2020: M3M Foundation, a philanthropic arm of M3M Group, has embarked on an initiative to rehabilitate flood victims in the East Champaran district of Bihar. As a part of this initiative called Kartavya, M3M Foundation, in collaboration with Rise Always Welfare Society (RAWS),
facilitates reconstruction and redevelopment of houses as well as the provision of a gas stove for at least thirty families in the East Champaran district, Bihar. Fifteen houses have already been constructed at Bhaja Tola, East Sareya, West Sareya, Matiarwa, Bankat and Majharia in East Champaran district.

“The rural community in the East Champaran district has been hard hit by floods. As a responsible organization, we stand with them in his hour and are committed to supporting them through financial as well as psychological means,” said Dr. Payal Kanodia, Trustee, M3M Foundation.

Currently, the districts of East Champaran, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Saran are reeling under the impact of floods with all major rivers maintaining a rising trend. The floods have affected 81.59 lakh people across 16 districts besides damaged standing crops spanning across 7.5 lakh hectares. RAWS, a non-governmental organization has been actively spearheading rehabilitation efforts in Bihar. Both M3M Foundation and RAWS have joined hands to extend economic and psychological support to flood victims.

“Bihar floods have severely impacted the population especially the vulnerable section of society. As
conscious citizens, it is our ethical responsibility to empathize and support them in whichever way we can. This initiative will not only help these communities in rebuilding their lives but also exemplify the significance of sustainable living as a prudent way forward,” said Mr. Sarvesh Tiwari, Chairman, RAWS.

These houses are being constructed out of bamboo that is known for its sustainability and resilience as a construction material. The sheets of bamboos were made at one location for constructing the wall of these huts. Later, these sheets are transported to the locations where beneficiaries reside, to be combined with cement sheets.

“We are grateful to M3M Foundation & RAWS in helping us to rebuild our lives after the floods. The
floods amid COVID-19 have exacerbated our situation but this initiative has given us a ray of hope,” said Baleshwar Mishra, a beneficiary in West Sareya.

M3M Foundation embarks on environmental initiative to plant 1 million trees in 3 years

M3M Foundation has embarked on a unique environmental initiative to plant one million trees across India in the next three years. Named as ‘VrishkArpan’, the initiative will be conducted in collaboration with the forest departments of various state government and non-governmental organizations. Until now, 15,617 trees have been planted at Bemta village that falls under the Kokerama Gram Panchayat of Sundargarh district in Odisha, in the first phase. M3M Foundation has also joined hands with the CSR Foundation in this regard. The initiative will alleviate poverty, by planting the fruit-bearing trees and make villages sustainable and boost the local economy.

‘VrikshArpan’ comes amid the COVID-19 pandemic which has hit the marginalized section of the society hard through unemployment, poverty and consequently limited access to health and education facilities. VrikshArpan aligns with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals- 12,13 and 15 by 2030 and India’s vision of increasing total area under green cover to 33 per cent.

“Tree plantation entails a plethora of benefits for the local community. VrishArpan’ is a holistic initiative that will have a major role in transforming India’s rural economy. It will be implemented through multi-stakeholder engagement and grass-root level participation to enable a positive. The initiative underscores our commitment to augmenting government efforts to increase afforestation. The plantation initiative in Odisha involves the participation of the rural population and will facilitate community development. It will enable marginalized people to gain seasonal employment. Trees are planted mostly on private lands which are upland, barren and of no economic value to the landowners. The participants have chosen high-value trees for plantation such as teak, cashew nuts, fruit-bearing trees and hardwood trees.
