4 Student teams from GIM make it to the finals of the renowned Aim2Flourish 2022

Making their mark, 4 student teams from Goa Institute of Management (GIM) have made it to the much-coveted finals of Aim2Flourish among 685 participants from around the globe.

AIM2Flourish is an initiative of the Cleveland, Ohio-based Fowler Center for Business as an agent of world benefit at the Weatherhead School of Management-Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Divya Singal, Chairperson, Centre for Social Sensitivity and Action, GIM, expressed her thoughts and said, “Four stories written by our students have made it to the finalist’s list, our students have made a mark this year as well, Last year in 2021, 5 stories from GIM reached the finals and one story on Jaipur Rugs won the Flourish Prize 2021 for SDG 8”.

The four student teams put up stellar stories on pressing matters at hand that are of concern to the globe and in their stories they have come up with unique and ingenious innovations. One team’s story was ‘ Every Drop Counts’ and they tackled the issue of water sanitation, the second story was ‘The Sustainable Bricks’ and covered various SDG (Sustainable Development Goals ) which have the element of sustainability, another team’s story was ‘Avani Earthcraft ’ which revolves around empowerment through innovation and its product was ethical and sustainable clothing, the fourth team’s story ‘Mitti Cool’ was about moulding lives with eco-friendly innovations and was an eye-opener to how business are heading towards the vision of a greener and a healthier planet.

Speaking about their experience, the student team of Sustainable Bricks said, “Aim2flourish has been an eye-opener for our team. From understanding the U.N goals to finding a story that was worth featuring, every step has brought in key learning for all of us. We started with the dream of making it to the finals and we believe that with proper guidance, good intent, and hard work anything can be achieved.”

The B-school has collaborated with Aim2Flourish which is the world’s first higher education program that combines the UN global goals for sustainable development and business as an agent of world benefit.

Using the UN Global Goals as their lens the students had to research and identify a positive business innovation and conduct an appreciative inquiry type of interview about it and prove their mettle among 685 innovative entries received from all corners of the world.

Entries opened in 2021 for the Flourish Prizes, 2022. The 2022 Flourish Prizes finalists include 84 stories from 31 universities in 20 countries under the guidance of 41 different professors. The businesses profiled come from 28 countries and more than 18 industries. Each year AIM2Flourish awards the 17 Flourish Prizes, one for each of the 17 Global Goals, to stories written during the previous calendar year. Last year in 2021, 5 stories from GIM reached the finals and one story on Jaipur Rugs won the Flourish Prize 2021.

 Rated among the top 4 B-Schools for the world in the Positive Impact Rating 2021, Goa Institute of Management (GIM) has been recording high salary packages consistently for the past 5 years. This year the trend continues.

The leading B-school attracted 70 industry leaders and pioneers which made a total of 200+ offers to a talented pool of 247 students from GIM. Despite the lockdown and the dip in the overall economy, the year saw an increase in the total number of companies that e-visited the GIM campus to recruit from its human capital. This has led to extraordinary placements for the year.

  • PGDM BDA (Big Data Analytics): Highest salary of Rs. 30.17 Lakhs per annum which is a new GIM record.
  • PGDM HCM (Healthcare Management): Highest salary of Rs. 26 Lakhs per annum, beating the benchmarks of last year.
  • PGDM BIFS (Banking, Insurance and Financial Services): The inaugural batch itself recorded a median salary of Rs. 11 Lakhs per annum.

Information Technology (IT) and IT enabled Services (ITeS) were the leading recruiters followed by the Banking and Financial Services industry (BFSI).

Said Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM, “Despite continued downward trends in the economy over the last 2 years, GIM’s 100% placement record is evidence of the institute’s high esteem in the job market and the recognition its graduates receive in the corporate world. With almost 3 decades of developing future leaders in its classrooms, GIM has shown admirable flexibility in shifting to a virtual program without dropping any of its high educational standards.”

Even among the turmoil and apprehension of the last couple of years, GIM graduates have received 100% placement across all Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) streams.

This remarkable feat has been made possible by the collective and arduous efforts of GIM’s in-house Placement Cell, along with its faculty and industry liaisons.

CM Pramod Sawant inaugurates new premises of Atal Incubation Centre, at GIM campus; kicks off four start-up initiatives

Hyderabad/Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Honourable Pramod Sawant inaugurated the new premises of the Atal Incubation Centre at GIM (AIC-GIM) at the Goa Institute of Management campus in Sanquelim and simultaneously unveiled four key initiatives of AICGIM aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable businesses in the state.

The new incubation centre will conduct an eight-week ‘GOA INVEST-a-THON’ across Goa to attract investment for Goa-based start-ups, by facilitating access to Founders of start-up ventures to leading Investors.

The four programmes which were unveiled by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant included ‘iMagic’, which will help identify entrepreneurial talent in Goa and harness this talent by offering access to knowledge and mentors in order to cultivate and promote the culture of innovation.

‘(S4S)3’ is a programme aimed at making startups sustainable, scalable and to provide support to social impact startups. 21 such startups are expected to be incubated at the AIC-GIM, which will receive the required value-added services by AICGIM Incuabtor.

The ‘We-nurture’ programme is aimed at nurturing women micro-entrepreneurs with the help of corporate partners and ‘RIVER’, a one-year programme for entrepreneurs in-residence to work on an idea, create startups and make them scalable ventures.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that Goa was well on its way to becoming a preferred destination for startups and the AIC-GIM could play a key role in encouraging and facilitating entrepreneurship as an alternate career option for young men and women.

Said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, “It is wonderful to know that several startups have benefitted from this AICGIM centre and will continue to do so. GIM’s efforts in higher education and contribution to the startup ecosystem in the state has made Sanquelim and the whole of Goa proud. I appeal to GIM to continue to share its knowledge and expertise to aid us in our vision to make an Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goa a reality.”

The ‘GOA INVEST-a-THON’ has been envisioned to cater to a dual purpose of enabling investments in startups in Goa and promoting ‘Startup Investment’ as an attractive asset class. Goan startups looking to raise up to Rs. 1 crore in investment are eligible to participate in this INVESTATHON.

AIC-GIM is conducting the INVESTATHON in association with leading Indian startup investment firms and the country’s top angel investors. Syndicated investment funds were present for the much anticipated ‘Startup Pitch’ event held on the day of the inaugural.

The investathon will also incorporate an eight-week programme on sensitising and educating high networth individuals (HNIs) and investors in Goa about the startup ecosystem and attracting investors to the state.

The slew of novel, exciting activities at the AIC-GIM are being anchored by the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the incubation facility, Rajesh Joshi, who has a vast experience of two decades in the startup industry, as a serial entrepreneur and an angel investor himself.

According to Mr. Joshi, Goa can emerge as ‘the best of the rest’ startup destination in the country.
”Apart from encouraging entrepreneurship in Goa, it’s crucial to attract leading startup investors to Goa. It’s also important that we develop a local investor network. We want to evangelise GAIN (Goa Angel Investor Network). GAIN will lead to build a viable startup ecosystem in Goa. With GAIN, not only do Goa startups stand to benefit, but investors will receive significant GAINs from their startup investment,” he said.

Said Prof. Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM, “Since its inception, AICGIM has served as an active knowledge and resource catalyst for the development of promising entrepreneurs and had aided in accelerating the growth of early stage organizations from ideation to marketplace success. Goa has a progressive startup policy. The state offers all the elements required to create an ideal startup ecosystem.”

He added, “With Rajesh Joshi at the helm of affairs at the incubation centre, we are poised to offer the much-needed impetus to the start-up community in Goa.”

Present at the event were members of the GIM Board and Society, Peter D’Lima, Shivanand and Swati Salgaocar, Dean Menezes among others. Also present were investors and members of NitiAyog.

The AIC-GIM is a sector agnostic startup incubator which was started in 2018. Since then, AIC-GIM has mentored entrepreneurs, assisted, and facilitated startup growth. About 30+ startups have benefited by incubation at AIC-GIM and 50+ startups have benefitted indirectly through various boot camps events, workshops, programs conducted by the incubator facility.
