Swiggy launches dedicated customer support and helpline to address food safety concerns

Sep 07: Swiggy, India’s pioneering on-demand convenience platform today reinforced its commitment to food safety with the roll-out of two dedicated features for enhanced customer support. Swiggy has launched a dedicated 24×7 helpline for customers to report any food safety related concerns. Customers can call at 7948231850 and report concerns. In addition to this, Swiggy also introduced a dedicated ‘Food Safety’ channel within its in-app Help section, giving customers a clear and accessible way to report concerns associated with their orders.

With the dedicated section in the app, customers can share their concerns via a short message and upload relevant pictures. Customers will get a ticket number to follow up on the status of their complaint. Customers calling on the dedicated helpline to report a food safety concern will also get a link on their registered mobile number where they can share additional information and pictures around the issue. In both cases, Swiggy Food Safety Assurance Team will review the issues raised on priority and take the necessary action.

Sharing his view on the initiative, Sidharth Bhakoo, Chief Business Officer, Swiggy Food Marketplace said,

“While we continue to work closely with our restaurant partners on food safety, we are also further strengthening the ways in which customers can raise any concerns they may have. Customer feedback has always been an important part of how we work, and these additional touch points will further help us in identifying and addressing any gaps, wherever they may arise.”

The dedicated helpline and channel on the app will serve as an intelligence tool for Swiggy, helping it identify repeated concerns, detect patterns, engage restaurant partners and strengthen preventive measures across the platform.

Swiggy continues to work with the restaurant partners to encourage the use of high-quality ingredients and ensure that the same is accurately reflected in the menu descriptions. The company also periodically educates its partners on hygiene practices and food safety standards.

Retail Investors Urged to Look Beyond IPO Buzz and Focus on Long-Term Value

New Delhi, Sep 7: With activity in India’s primary market remaining strong, retail investors are being advised to approach initial public offerings (IPOs) with caution and avoid viewing them as a quick route to making money.

Retail Investors Urged to Look Beyond IPO Buzz and Focus on Long-Term Value

The warning comes amid heightened interest in new public issues, with many individual investors closely tracking IPOs in the hope of earning listing gains. Market experts, however, say strong demand for an issue does not guarantee similar performance once the shares begin trading.

Investors should instead assess a company’s business model, financial performance, future growth prospects and valuation before deciding whether an IPO fits their investment goals.

Market volatility has also made it important for investors to avoid decisions driven by short-term trends or market headlines. A disciplined approach can help investors deal with sudden price movements and reduce the risk of chasing stocks simply because they are attracting attention.

A closer look at company fundamentals can help investors distinguish between businesses with sustainable growth potential and those whose valuations may be difficult to justify. At the same time, maintaining a long-term perspective can help investors avoid being overly influenced by short-term market fluctuations.

The strong participation of retail investors in both IPOs and the secondary market has made valuation awareness increasingly important. Investors are therefore encouraged to conduct proper research and consider the risks involved before committing their money.

The broader message is simple: an IPO should be viewed as an opportunity to invest in a business, not as a guaranteed source of quick returns. A careful assessment of fundamentals, valuation and long-term prospects can help retail investors make more informed decisions.

Navanna Ritual at Maa Manikeswari Shrine in Kalahandi on September 22

Kalahandi, Sept. 7 (UDN): The traditional Navanna ritual at the Maa Manikeswari shrine in Kalahandi will be observed on September 22, with the first offering of the new harvest scheduled during the auspicious period from 8.20 am to 9.30 am.

Navanna Ritual at Maa Manikeswari Shrine in Kalahandi on September 22

According to the Kalahandi Rajbati, devotees and members of the public will be allowed to partake of the new rice offering from 10 am to noon on the day.

Navanna at the Maa Manikeswari shrine is deeply rooted in the region’s traditional customs. Unlike Nuakhai, which is observed on Panchami in western Odisha, the Navanna ritual at the shrine is performed on Dashami.

As part of the age-old practice, the first produce of the season is offered to Maa Manikeswari before the new rice is consumed by the people. The ritual holds particular religious and cultural importance in the erstwhile princely areas of Kalahandi.

The announcement comes shortly after the auspicious timing for the Nabanna offering at Maa Samaleswari Temple in Sambalpur was declared. There, the new harvest will be offered to the presiding deity on September 15, marking the beginning of the Nuakhai celebrations.

The Navanna observance at Maa Manikeswari is expected to draw devotees and members of the local community, continuing a longstanding tradition of expressing gratitude for the season’s first harvest.

Rourkela Coolie’s Dream Comes True as Twin Sons Enter NIT Rourkela

Rourkela, Sept. 7 (UDN): For railway station coolie Sanjay Sahu, years of hard work and personal sacrifice have finally paid off as his twin sons secured admission to the prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela.

Rourkela Coolie’s Dream Comes True as Twin Sons Enter NIT Rourkela

 Representational Image

Sahu, a resident of Gopabandhupali in Rourkela, has been working as a coolie at Rourkela railway station since 2013. His earnings from carrying passengers’ luggage have helped support his family and fund the education of his two sons.

Sahu himself had to give up his studies because of financial constraints. After completing Plus Two in Commerce from Rourkela Evening College, he enrolled in a Plus Three course but was forced to discontinue his studies during the second year to support his family.

He initially took up various small jobs to make ends meet. However, with the responsibility of running his household becoming increasingly difficult, he eventually started working as a coolie at the railway station.

Despite the financial challenges, Sahu remained determined to provide his sons with better educational opportunities. A major milestone came when both his sons secured admission to NIT Rourkela.

Their achievement has brought immense happiness and pride to the family. While his sons have now begun their journey at one of Odisha’s premier technical institutions, Sahu continues his work at the railway station.

Sahu hopes that his sons will successfully complete their studies and fulfil their ambition of becoming engineers.

The story of the family stands as an example of how perseverance, sacrifice and a parent’s determination can help children overcome financial hardships and pursue their dreams.

John Crane helps German sugar producer save more than 6.2 million litres of water during a six-month production season

India, Sep 07: John Crane, a global leader in flow-control technologies and an innovator in solutions for rotating equipment, and a business of Smiths Group plc, has helped a German sugar producer reduce the water required for mechanical seal cooling and lubrication by approximately 80%. Across a full six-month production season, the reduction is equivalent to saving more than 6.2 million litres of water.

Water use has fallen from 8 to 12 litres per minute to approximately 1 to 2 litres per minute on each converted application. Across four pumps, this represents a calculated saving of at least 34,560 litres for every 24 hours of operation and more than 240,000 litres over seven days. With all four pumps operating continuously throughout an 180-day campaign, the savings exceed 6.2 million litres.

In the sugar industry, a production campaign is the seasonal period during which the crop is processed, and the factory operates around the clock. The result demonstrates how targeted changes to industrial equipment can strengthen water resilience without compromising operational performance.

Before the retrofit, competitor seals were failing every three to four months. High heat generation and poor lubrication, combined with abrasive and crystallising media, caused recurring damage and increased maintenance. Several parts of the process also relied on large volumes of water to cool and lubricate the mechanical seals. The customer wanted to improve mean time between repair while reducing water use.

The programme covers four pump applications handling thin juice, thick juice and recirculation or distillation process streams. Operating conditions range from 80°C to 133°C and 1 to 4 bar, with the pumps running at 960 rpm. Each application required a configuration suited to its process conditions, existing pump and seal support arrangement.

John Crane engineers measured the available installation space on each pump and selected Type 587, Type 5620 and SB2 Upstream Pumping seal configurations. The solution set included 65 mm and 95 mm SB2 USP designs, with API Plan 52 or John Crane SafeUnit SFD barrier-fluid support used where appropriate. This allowed the existing equipment to be upgraded without replacing the pumps.

Planning and preparation for the first conversions took approximately one year. John Crane began converting the pumps progressively around seven years ago, enabling the customer to validate the technology in operation before extending the programme to further applications.

In addition to the 80% reduction in water use, the four applications have operated without a reported seal failure since 2019. Seal service life has increased from a previous average of three to four months to several years, and the customer is planning further conversions.

“Saving more than 6.2 million litres of water during a single production campaign is a significant result, but this is also a compelling reliability story. These pumps operate in hot, abrasive process conditions where seals had been failing every three to four months. With no reported seal failures since 2019, the customer is seeing measurable value in water efficiency, maintenance and long-term performance.” said Aziz Sallie, Vice President, Commercial and Service, John Crane.

As pressure on water resources increases worldwide, manufacturers are looking for practical ways to reduce consumption without comprising production. This project demonstrates how targeted upgrades to existing equipment can deliver substantial water savings while improving reliability, reducing maintenance and supporting more resilient industrial operations.
