Eliminating TB Requires New and Quick Testing: Dr. Ashok Rattan

“Eliminating TB Requires New and Quick Testing,” Says Dr. Ashok Rattan as Redcliffe Labs Launches BD MAX MDR TB Test in India on World TB Day

Noida, India –March 23, 2023: Redcliffe Labs, a leading pan-India omnichannel diagnostic company in India, has announced the launch of the BD MAX MDR TB test, which can detect multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in a single test, enabling clinicians to quickly test for TB and multidrug resistance as a first-line test. The test, conducted at Redcliffe Labs in Noida, is the first of its kind in India and will significantly enhance the information available to direct the optimal treatment for patients.

Dr. Ashok Rattan and Dr. Sohini

Launching the BD MAX MDR TB test marks a significant milestone in the fight against TB in India. According to the India TB Report 2022, the country reported a sharp 19% rise in tuberculosis cases in 2021, with 19 lakh incident TB patients notified. With proper detection and treatment, TB is curable, and Redcliffe Labs’ latest offering promises to help clinicians make informed clinical decisions and improve patient treatment outcomes.

With the new BD MAX MDR TB test, clinicians can simultaneously detect bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB) and determine if the bacteria contain mutations associated with resistance to two important first-line drugs – Isoniazid (INH) and Rifampicin (RIF), respectively. This makes TB detection quick and easy and eliminates the need for separate tests for drug resistance against Rifampicin and Isoniazid.

“This new launch is a game-changer for TB detection in India,” said Prof. Ashok Rattan, Chairman of Medical Committee & Quality, Redcliffe Labs. “Antimicrobial resistance has made TB identification more complex, and the BD MAX MDR-TB panel provides a comprehensive solution that is quick, efficient, and accurate.”

“Although TB can affect any part of the body, pulmonary TB is the most typical manifestation of the disease, transmitted through the respiratory route. Cough, low-grade fever, night sweats, and weight loss are the four cardinal symptoms of TB. Anyone experiencing these for more than two weeks should seek medical attention, added Dr. Rattan, a former professor with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) professor and presently a recognized member at Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University.

The recent development of artificial intelligence software for detecting hot spots in the lungs from digital chest X-rays is a promising tool for mass active case finding of TB in the community. Dr. Rattan disclosed that our ancestors’ habit of boiling milk before drinking has helped block the gastrointestinal route from infected cows.

“Present on occasion Dr. Sohini SenGupta, said, “As the long duration of treatment often leads individuals to discontinue it midway, it not only allows the damaged bacteria to recover and continue the infection but also increases the risk of drug resistance
By introducing the latest tests & equipment, we continue to focus on improving the diagnosis of TB so that we can provide clinicians with the best tools for identifying effective treatments for their patients,” she further added

Redcliffe Labs provides diagnostics with a comprehensive portfolio approach, both with routine and specialized test menus, with advanced testing labs all over India. Its digital-first approach with on-demand 1-hour home collection and same-day reporting is disrupting the way diagnostics is delivered today and is thus the fastest growing in India.

The company has served over 3 million Indians and processes over 250K+ test parameters per day. The test portfolio is very broad, including routine pathology tests, advanced genetic screening, and research-based DNA tests in reproductive health, cancer, and wellness/fitness. The easy-to-interpret smart reports provide key health checkpoints, which can help diagnose and treat chronic and acute diseases on time. All the Labs at Redcliffe are enrolled in external quality assurance programs and follow the guidelines of NABL and CAP.

HP and Dell laptops dominate Indian Markets in Terms of Ownership

Bengaluru, 23rd March 2023: HP and Dell laptops have continued their market dominance in India with a sales share 33.2 percent and 23.1 percent, respectively according to the latest Laptop Buyer Insights Survey, March 2023 published by 91Mobiles, India’s number one gadget discovery site. The survey did a year-on-year comparison of laptop ownership for 12 months. It compared the March 2023 data with the corresponding month in the previous year.

91Mobiles announced the pan-India survey recently. Apple, according to the survey, declined in ownership share by a good margin over the past year. Apple’s margin dropped to 2.7 percent in March 2023 as compared to 4.3 percent recorded in March last year. Chinese manufacturer Lenovo too dropped marginally in terms of ownership during the period.

The results revealed that a few brands have gained marginally over the year including Acer, MI, and MSI.

“The survey results highlight that the globalised Indian market offers several options for new-age laptop buyers. Our survey was carried out across a varied group of respondents in the age bracket range of 18 to 44 years. The scenario also presents a healthy picture of the market competition, price offerings and specifications. And brands are ready to take on the challenge,” said Nitin Mathur, co-founder & COO of 91mobiles.

Interestingly, Apple is also the leading brand when it comes to brand loyalty among its users. The brand commands the loyalty of over 77 percent of its current users. It beats Asus, HP, Acer, and Dell by significant margins, the survey added.

After Apple, ASUS seems to be the brand with the most loyal users as 64 percent are likely to purchase a new laptop from the brand. It is for this reason Apple is likely to gain a maximum number of new users. When asked about the preferred brand of choice for their next laptop purchase, around 55 percent of the survey respondents will either buy HP or Dell laptops.

The 91Mobiles survey revealed some interesting trends in consumer preferences and choices while purchasing laptops. Most buyers, while making a purchase, see the performance of the laptop, it said. More than 75 percent of the survey respondents consider performance as the most important factor for selecting a laptop brand. Battery life and storage are the other two prominent specifications buyers look at. Form factor, design and monitor display are secondary factors when buying a laptop. On this aspect, almost 70 percent of people consider the processor and its quality as the most important factors while evaluating a laptop’s performance.

What specifications matter?

Approximately 60 percent of the survey respondents preferred Intel-powered laptops. AMD, Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek followed. However, a decent 17 percent of buyers do not look at the processor brand.

Price specifications

More people are buying laptops priced ₹50k and higher, compared to 2022, the survey revealed, indicating that buyers are willing to shell out more for higher specifications and better performance.

However, laptops priced between ₹30,000 and ₹50,000 continue to dominate buyers’ preference. When it comes to purchasing a new laptop, more than 54 percent of the survey takers are likely to pay the full amount upfront, the survey added. Also, people are willing to purchase from online channels if the laptop is priced cheaper.

“The pricing trends highlight the fact that the Indian market remains price sensitive and consumers are often inclined toward buying which is value for money yet gives a quality performance. And laptop brands are willing to meet the customer needs,” added Bharanidharan Viswanathan, co-founder & CEO of 91mobiles.

Heart Treatment: Alternative to stents

– Dr Bimal Chhajer, Director, SAAOL Heart Centre, New Delhi

Dr-Bimal-Chajjer

In the recent days a lot of doubts have been created about stents – excessive cost, unnecessary use and dubious quality. More than 6 lacs stents have been implanted in the year 2021 netting a Rs. 6000 crore extra/ill gotten money to the cardiologists and heart Hospitals. The excess of anything ultimately gets caught. The Government took a decision to reduce the cost of stents by 85%. Even after this it will still make money for the heart hospitals.

The basic question that remains still now is- were these stents needed? Is this a only way to treat heart patients? Why the number of heart disease patients increasing? What may the more appropriate treatment of heart disease?

Heart disease occurs because of excess fats in the food, lack of exercise, tobacco consumption, non control of BP, Diabetes, Obesity and excessive stress. The fats called Cholesterol and Tryglyceries – if excess in blood keep on depositing inside the heart tubes over the years. Heart patients remain unaware about these blocks till it reaches 70-80% stage – because heart requires only 20-30% of its blood supply. By the time the symptoms appear the blocks have reached 80% or more. Then only the heart patients reach the hospitals and cardiologists make the kill and put expensive stents. The patients , even after the stenting, carry on with the same lifestyle and reblock the stents – thus the next stents are put. Then what may be the ideal solution?

The best alternative is Lifestyle training of the heart patients and education of them. Most of the heart patients are medically illiterate – they need to know about Cholesterol, Triglycerides, the correct dose of exercise, stress management skills, Yoga to prevent heart disease, ways and means to control Diabetes, high BP, overweight. If they are in advanced stage they need optimum medical management also.

SAAOL – or Science and Art of living – is one such organisation which has a pan India presence combines a complete lifestyle education program for heart patients along with optimum medical management. For the past 27 years, SAAOL has marked its presence all across India and is now aiming to spread globally. Punyya Life Foundation (PLF), an NGO which is a social venture by SAAOL will take this initiative to treat heart attacks without stents further.

SAAOL’s heart program includes complete education about heart care delivered to the patients and spouse in the form of one day camps. Dieticians, doctors, Yoga experts educate the heart patients one heart disease management by Food, exercises, knowledge and Yoga. SAAOL also controls serum lipids, BP, Sugar by allopathic medications – protecting the patients from heart attack. Drugs are prescribed to thin the blood and reduce angina. The patients return to their work immediately. They also avoid stents or Bypass surgery. SAAOL also provides other alternation treatments from Ayurveda, Homeopathy, ECP and EDTA therapy – all non invasive ways to help heart patients.

SAAOL detox therapy is a mix of Allopathic Detox medicine called EDTA along with all possible ways to remove toxins from our body. It has Ayurveda, homeopathy, herbal drinks, Unani, and naturopathy components too. After successfully treatments many heart patients in the last twenty-six years, we have found that this Detox works much more effectively not only in removing toxins from the body but also helps in the reversal of blockages. The most important ingredient of this therapy is intravenous EDTA- which is an Indian government-approved anti-toxic medicine that helps in the removal of metal poisoning and other kinds of toxins from the body.
