Kathakar 2022: India’s Unique Story-Telling Fest to be Held Nov. 25–28

New Delhi, Nov 23, 2022: The art of storytelling in India has many forms and utilizes many mediums. Despite differences in settings, genres, or cultures, all stories ultimately aim to convey something universal. They serve both an educational and entertainment purposes for audiences. It’s clear that different sections of India’s culture has its own distinct approach to storytelling. Puppets, dance, or even musical instruments are used as props to help the narrator make storytelling more impactful.

Hence, Kathakar, the sole celebration of India’s rich oral storytelling tradition, which was started under the umbrella of Ghummakkad Narain Travelling Literature Festival was launched in 2010.

This will be the 15th edition of Kathakar as the annual event is inaugurated in the premises of Sunder Nursery in Delhi with added attractions at Central Vista at India Gate. The festival will showcase in its pristine physical form amazing stories and music by Indian and International storytellers from seven countries—United Kingdom; Australia; Mongolia; Israel; Sierra Leonne; Korea; and India.

This year’s edition of festival, Kathakar 2022 will start on November 25 and its goal is twofold: to ensure the conservation of oral storytelling tradition and increase its popularity. This year’s Kathakar will feature big names and events, including:

Kathakar 2022—a marquee event to revive the traditional style of storytelling in a world dominated by hi-tech gizmos and gadgets—will thus feature professional and passionate storytellers from the country and abroad who will showcase their mesmerizing craft to underscore the fact that storytelling cuts across all boundaries of language and culture.

The festival will be inaugurated by Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Mrs Meenakshi Lekhi.

“Stories emerging from villages are very powerful as life is totally different there… I love folk songs and stories that are connected to our lives. Whenever I meet filmmakers, I urge them to make movies based on stories from villages,” says acclaimed filmmaker, writer, and producer Imtiaz Ali, who will be part of the event Kissey, Kahani aur Guftagu on November 27 at Sunder Nursery, Nizamuddin.

Mohit Chauhan, who is the patron of the festival and also the Cultural Envoy of Mongolia in India, reminisced over how he would listen to “travelogues and ghost stories” which are narrated in the Himalayas. During his free time, Chauhan recalled, he would sing folk songs and cherish folk tales. During the festival, both Imtiaz Ali and Mohit Chauhan will be sharing some anecdotes from the making of the most popular songs and incidents of college days.

Mohit Chauhan, Patron of the Festival said that “This festival was started by the Gahilote sisters, Rachna, Prarthana & Shaguna in 2010 under the aegis of UNESCO to preserve and promote the ancient art of storytelling. I have been associated with it from the very beginning and have seen how this festival has evolved. Today, storytelling has become a thriving art form and has reclaimed a niche audience. It feels wonderful to have helped revive an art form and contributed my bit in preserving our ancient Indian culture.”

Paytm Payments Bank Supports UPI Market Cap — Maintains Its Leadership as a PSP and Issuer Bank

India’s homegrown Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) today shared that it supports and welcomes the proposed implementation of the National Payments Council of India’s (NPCI) UPI market cap. With this, the UPI ecosystem in India will see further growth in a democratized manner, encouraging wider participation and ending the market concentration risk.

PPBL, which owns Paytm UPI, is NPCI certified PSP (Payment Service Provider) and Issuer Bank for UPI transactions, and not a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP) and won’t come under the purview of NPCI’s market cap. The Bank is an Issuer and PSP Bank in itself along with being an acquirer of UPI transactions on its own platform and serves the customer end-to-end in a transaction.

The Bank continues to lead UPI payments as the largest beneficiary bank and a leading remitter bank. According to the latest report by NPCI, as a beneficiary bank, PPBL has registered over 1,614 million transactions and as a remitter bank, it registered more than 362 million transactions in October 2022.

Paytm Payments Bank Spokesperson said, “We believe the proposed implementation of UPI market capping will be hugely beneficial for the UPI ecosystem. This move by the NPCI will bolster the growth of digital payments and democratize them for the citizens, ending market concentration risk. With this, UPI will become even more accessible and enable further digital adoption.”

The Bank is now enabling users to make transactions across all UPI payment apps with just the mobile number, and even if it is not registered with Paytm. With this, users can receive and send money instantly to any mobile number with a registered UPI ID across platforms using the Paytm app. This further deepens Unified Payments Interface (UPI) interoperability and roots for the adoption of mobile payments.

Carrier works with United Way Delhi, which partners with other non-governmental organizations to organize events for schools, corporations, and resident welfare associations (RWAs) to increase awareness and facilitate change. United for Air has engaged more than 60 RWAs and 20,000 students through engagement activities involving street plays, musical mobs, and cyclotrons. At these events, garbage boxes for waste segregation are provided and plantation drives are conducted.

In collaboration with Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, Carrier has installed air quality monitors across 17 different locations in Gurugram. The air quality monitors connect with LED boards that display real-time PM2.5 and PM10 levels, along with recommendations such as “Go for an evening walk” “Do yoga outdoors” when conditions are good, and “Wear masks” and “Avoid strenuous activities” when pollution levels are high.

Carrier ensures regular calibration of air monitors based on continuous comparisons with PM readings from government Beta Attenuation Monitoring (BAM) devices maintained by the Centre of Pollution Control Board. Carrier plans to install additional air monitors and LED display boards to continue to make real-time data accessible to more residents of Gurugram.

United for Air mobile apps for Android and iOS devices, which are free of cost, also provide real-time PM2.5 and PM10 levels, along with the temperature and relative humidity. The apps are a single source of weather and air quality information.

The United for Air program supports Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals of positively impacting communities through continued investments in initiatives that promote sustainability through education, partnerships, and climate resiliency programs.

Mumbai was the winning project, having received thousands of fan votes. I’m incredibly proud to contribute to the development of my community and make a positive difference in the lives of young people through my experience with the Water Heroes Academy.”
