New Delhi, 1st August, 2022: Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai hosted its first Corporate Day event for the academic year 2022-23 at its Chennai campus on 28th July 2022.

Corporate Day, a unique concept conceived by the Corporate & Career Services (CCS) team along with the Placement Committee, aims to bridge the gap between the industry and academia through corporate collaborations. The focus is not only to groom students in their chosen field of specialization but also to broaden their horizons and equip them with required skills that will help them excel at any organisation that they join. Bain Capability Network is the first company to visit the Chennai campus as part of this initiative.

The event commenced with a welcome address by the placement committee members followed by the invocation song, lamp lighting ceremony and the Ponadai ceremony.

The event saw dignitaries from the company engage with the students through a round of discussions and business case simulations.

Mr. Manish Goyal, Vice President, Bain Capability Network shared his insights about how to pursue a career in consulting and addressed all the questions posted to him via students.

Dr. Balaji, Group Director, Corporate & Career Services, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, while addressing students said, “The problems that you will encounter are not designed to be brainteasers, but rather to reflect the challenges that clients face. This sort of an approach is better as we discuss and come up with solutions based on the clients’ work. Case study learning is a substantial method through which we can have an experiential learning.”

The event was spearheaded by two Great Lakes Alumni working with Bain Capability Network – Mr. Deepesh Dua, Director and Mr. Ashish Prasad, Senior Manager, Consumer Products & Retail. They helped students understand the significance of strategic approach during case studies and how to arrive at relevant solutions.

The session was followed by a Q&A where the speakers answered all the questions raised by the students in the areas of consulting industry, life at Bain, challenges and hurdles faced along the way etc.

SVKM’s NMIMS School of Pharmacy & Technology Management, Shirpur Campus bags NBA Accreditation

Shirpur, 1st August, 2022: SVKM’s NMIMS School of Pharmacy & Technology Management (SPTM), Shirpur Campus has won accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for its Bachelor in Pharmacy (B Pharm) undergraduate education program for a period of five years.

Now, the students enrolling for a four-year B Pharm degree course from the current academic year onwards will get an opportunity to complete one more year of education to get an NBA accredited certificate. This signifies that B Pharm degree students at NMIMS Shirpur Campus are accredited by the NBA. This accreditation means the campus follows certain norms as outlined by the regulator and provides a quality education in pharmacy.

In case students are willing to apply for a post graduate program overseas, this NBA accreditation will help them get priority in the selection process against the non-NBA accredited students. Also, the degree accredited by the NBA helps improve employability with chances to get a higher package than non-NBA accredited students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Akshay Malhotra, Director, SVKM’s NMIMS Shirpur Campus, said, “With this accreditation in place, the students enrolling for the B Pharm programs would be considered as NBA accredited degree holders. This accreditation will be valid for students taking admission for the B Pharm course from the current academic year.”

The major benefits of this accreditation include the recognition of the highest quality of education available at this campus which will strengthen consumers’ confidence and employers value degrees the most. Also in addition to enhance employability prospects, it will facilitate transnational recognition of degrees and mobility of NBA accredited graduates, and demonstrate accountability to the public, commitment to excellence and continuous quality improvement.

The NBA is a process of quality assurance and improvement whereby a program in an approved institution is critically appraised to verify that the institution or the program continues to meet the norms and standards prescribed by the regulator.

It is a tool that stakeholders use to monitor, assess and evaluate the standards and quality of the education students receive at a college, university, or other institution of higher learning. The purpose of the accreditation by the NBA is to promote and recognize excellence in technical education in colleges and universities. The NBA accreditation process benefits students, institutions, employers and also to the public at large in external quality assessment.

Dr Malhotra further added, “The credit for this accreditation goes to the SVKM’s NMIMS administration along with the entire faculty and staff members of the School of Pharmacy & Technology Management, and also all stakeholders who put in their constant efforts to achieve this milestone.”

This milestone was achieved through constant guidance and encouragement from Shri Amrishbhai Patel, Hon. Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS; Dr. Chandrakant Bonde, In-Charge Associate Dean, SPTM; Shri Bhupeshbhai Patel, Joint President, SVKM; Mentor of Shirpur Campus Shri Rajagopal Bhandari, Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Vice Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS; Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar and Dr. Meena Chintamaneni, Dr. R. Doctors At Gleneagles Global Health City Perform Bilateral Hand Transplant…

Mumbai / Chennai, July 2022: Doctors at Gleneagles Global Health City, a leading tertiary care hospital in Chennai, successfully performed a life-changing bilateral hand transplant (below elbow) for a man hailing from Kancheepuram for whom the hand was air transported from Ahmedabad. The team of doctors from Gleneagles Global Health City was honored by Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu, His Excellency Hon’ble Vice President of India.

A 24-year-old male from Kancheepuram had lost both hands due to high voltage electrical burns in 2018 and required his mother’s support for routine chores. Despite this challenge, he was very confident and optimistic about having a hand transplant and leading a normal life. He also registered with the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) for a hand transplant.

Living with this disability for over three years, he breathed a sigh of relief on 28th May 2022 when we received an alert from the NOTTA and TRANSTAN about a prospective hand donor from Ahmedabad. With the support, swift action, and timely clearances of NOTTA, the respective state governments, TRANSTAN, and DMS, the hand was flown from Ahmedabad to Chennai, covering 1800 KM, and brought to Gleneagles Global Health City.

The patient was wheeled in for a 14-hour marathon procedure, and our expert specialists performed the transplant successfully. Dr S. Selva SeethaRaman (Director & Senior Consultant – Institute of Plastic, Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery), 8 plastic surgeons, 4 orthopedicians, a vascular surgeon, 4 anaesthetists, a nephrologist (transplant immunology), and 30 paramedical personnel comprised the team.

Speaking at the felicitation, Hon’ble Vice President, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, His Excellency Hon’ble Vice President of India, said: “It gives me a sense of pride that the country is blessed with such remarkable and dedicated Doctors across states. From my understanding, the process indeed has been strenuous, and the doctors have taken a very meticulous approach in achieving this as a team. The progress of Gleneagles Global Health City Hospital has been remarkable over the past few years, and their contribution to organ transplantation is noteworthy. This case is a great example to motivate people to step forward and donate organs, especially hands of brain-dead patients, and provide a good quality of life to the disabled.”

Elaborating the case, Dr S. Selva SeethaRaman, HOD & Senior Consultant – Institute of Plastic, Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, said, “Handling a case of hand transplants requires the highest levels of precision and medical expertise. With this case, we are happy to have recorded this rare feat of bilateral below elbow hand transplant in the state of Tamil Nadu. The state of Tamil Nadu has been a forerunner for organ transplants in India. I want to thank the Government departments for the excellent coordination and support in achieving this milestone.”

Congratulating the team on the success, Dr Alok Khullar, CEO, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai said, “We are extremely proud of our multi-disciplinary team led by the Plastic Surgery Department for performing this life changing procedure and carving GGHC’s name in history in line with our theme of “Care for Good”. I extend my hearty wishes to the entire team of doctors, nurses and salute the donor’s family for their noble gesture.”

The uneventful procedure was performed on 28 May 2022 and has been 60 successful days since the transplant. The patient is doing well and is on a road to recovery with intensive physiotherapy.
