Check your heart before you start exercising

Exercise and physical workout instructions

Give yourself time to gradually improve and adapt to increase in exercise intensity. Don’t pack a week worth of activity into a day or two. Try to maintain a moderate level of activity throughout the week. Aim for a total body workout of cardio, strength training, flexibility and balance exercises. Always consult your doctor about any medical conditions which can affect your exercise regime and follow the doctor’s advice.

Dietary advice

• Right food before and after exercise is important
• Not eating enough before a workout can make you dizzy, light-headed, nauseated or lethargic
• A light snack instead of heavy snack is advised before workout
• Time your pre-workout snack right with proper portion sizes
• Rehydrate – High-intensity workout leads to dehydration. Hence, proper hydration is needed
• Post workout – Refuel your body with good amount of carbs and proteins. Do not skip your carbs.

“As a general rule, the heart rate should not cross more than double the baseline heart rate; 10% variation is within the safe zone. If one cannot recognize one’s own heart-beat, then the person should seek help from a doctor. Participation screening is an extremely valuable method to detect and treat pre-existing heart problems. For people taking up endurance sports like marathons, and exercising at gyms, pre-participation screening is very essential. For regular runners, annual screening of cardiovascular fitness will suffice,” explained Dr. J Harikishan, Senior General Physician, Kamineni Hospitals, Hyderabad.

JK Super Cement launches Diwali Campaign- Kare Har Raah Roshan #LightOfHappiness

30th October 2021: A brand with a purpose, JK Super Cement rings in the festivities with a special Diwali Campaign- Kare Har Raah Roshan #LightOfHappiness- by lighting up streets and chowks across eight states in India. This sustainable initiative was done by installing 160 solar-powered lights in different villages across India, impacting over 12 lakh populations.

JKCement identified these dark alleys and bylanes across villages where passersby find it difficult or unsafe to cross those streets due to inadequate lights. The company installed these lights in those areas thereby preventing road accidents and other related difficulties.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Pushp Raj Singh, President Marketing, Grey Cement Business, JK Cement Ltd., said, ‘Toeing on the lines of “Brand with a Purpose” we had put our heads together to think how this Diwali JKCement can make the lives of people a little “happier and shiner”. Upon much discussion, we came up with this noble idea to install these lights in the dark alleys. It is JKCement’s small effort to bring a little bit of happiness in people’s lives.”

Adding further, Mr. Singh said, “The company always has been at the forefront of holistically developing the communities it serves, with solutions that are eco-friendly, cost-efficient and sustainable. The brand had been addressing real issues that are affecting people through a plethora of social, charitable, healthcare and educational initiatives. We have always tried to resonate with our brand value proposition through our campaigns. The campaign Kare Har Raah Roshan is in continuation of its efforts to address a pressing concern by adding convenience and safer infrastructure.”

Earlier this year, JK Super Cement created a record by constructing 251 ramps in various government schools in the district of Jaipur, Rajasthan in a single day.

The cement company to mark this celebration has released a heart-warming 120-second video, named, #LightOfHappiness on their social media handles. (YouTube link: https://youtu.be/izgmb-V1_f0)

The video depicts how people across various villages struggle due to the lack of inadequately lit streets. JK Super Cement has identified and addressed this problem by installing sustainable solar lights in these areas. The video ends with the line, “Har raah ko roshan karta mai yahi milunga, kyunki suraksha ka ye wada pucca hai, irada hamara ye pucca hai.”

The social media film, #LightOfHappiness has been conceptualised by Social Cloud Ventures, a digital solutions provider for social media, mobile apps, and digital business marketing sectors.

Talking about the need for this initiative, Mr. Love Raghav, Head – Branding, Grey Cement Business, said, ‘I would often hear about unfortunate incidents of inconvenience, crimes and road accidents that happen in remote villages due to inadequately lit streets and alleys from my friends. This year with our Diwali Campaign, #LightOfHappiness Kare Har Raah Roshan, we got this opportunity to not only address this problem with a self-sustaining solution but also spread hope, strength, safety and happiness among over 12 lakh people residing in the rural areas of India.’

Talking further about the initiative, Mr. Raghav added, “The campaign is very close to our hearts as it perfectly blends into our brand’s ideology of ’Build Safe’. At JK Super Cement, our objective has been to undertake various developmental initiatives across the length and breadth of the country and create a better infrastructure that benefits one and all.” he further added.

Need to draw a line between ‘Fact’ and ‘Fake’: Anurag Thakur

Need to draw a line between ‘Fact’ and ‘Fake’: Anurag Thakur

Union I&B Minister addresses IIMC students during Orientation-2021-22

New Delhi, October 29: Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Shri Anurag Thakur, while addressing the IIMC students at the closing ceremony of the week-long Orientation Programme-2021-22, said the nature of media has changed due to mobile, internet and digitalisation. In the changed era today, there is a need to draw a line between the ‘Fact’ and ‘Fake’. You have to protect your source, but also question them with equal vigour their facts and narrative. “Technology has entered every sector, Covid-19 has disrupted every plan in many ways, and we have a chance to make a fresh start, fresh outlook. The world needs those who bring about constructive change. As a media person you will be the custodian of truth and amplifier of information,” he said. Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Chairman of IIMC, Mr. Apoorva Chandra, Director General of IIMC, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, Additional Director-General Mr. Ashish Goyal and Convener of the Orientation Programme and Dean (Academic) Prof. Govind Singh, faculty members from all the centres of IIMC and students were also present.

Guiding the IIMC students, Shri Thakur said during Covid pandemic, communication has taken on new meaning and sharing of information has taken on a new dimension altogether. “The world around you and the media landscape has changed and will change more by the time you enter the market. You will have to fight for the national interest and defend every voice to be heard. So, you have to make a habit of saying and writing very thoughtfully,” he added.

Shri Thakur said the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in the changing time, has been working on a human-centered communication system so that information can be delivered to the common man immediately. He said the government’s plan is to ensure timely information to the last person in society, and the regional media has an important role to play in it.

Correct use of right information is very important: Apurva Chandra

Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Chairman of IIMC, Mr. Apoorva Chandra said earlier only newspapers were the prime source of news, but today everything has been reduced to a mobile phone due to the unprecedented change in digital technology. Today, you have a wealth of information, but which information is important and which is not, it is not known to the common man. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is working seriously in this direction, so that people can make the right use of the right information, he added.

Youth should focus on ‘Innovation’: Prof. Dwivedi

Director General of IIMC Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi said if there is one word that has been the most talked about in the last few years it is ‘Innovation’. Capacity, infrastructure, culture and strategy are key elements for innovation in any organisation. In the coming times, only those companies will exist, which will provide service based on innovation. He said the innovations made by the IIMC in the field of media education and research are an example for other media education institutions in the country.

Social media and TV are complementary to each other: Anurradha Prasad

Managing Director, News24, Ms. Anurradha Prasad, while addressing the students on the topic ‘Future of TV News’ said when we read a newspaper, we get the news of a day old, but in TV and digital media you also get the news of a minute ago. Just as TV channels and newspapers complement each other, social media and television too complement each other. She said when TV channels came, people used to say that newspapers would be closed, but it did not happen. The newspapers, which changed their content as per the changing scenario are still flourishing.

English is not the medium of success: Sankrant Sanu

In the second session, noted author Shri Sankrant Sanu interacted with the students on the topic ‘English for Communication Vs English as Medium’. He said when someone speaks good English, he is considered to be educated, while a person who speaks Hindi is considered to be inferior. When you go abroad, you come to know the fact that English is not the medium of success in any country. Out of 20 most developed countries of the world, only four developed countries use English and that too because it is their own language. In the remaining 16 countries, people use only their mother tongues.

Sense of global connect is in Indian communication tradition: Prof. Adhikari

Prof. in Kathmandu University Dr. Nirmal Mani Adhikari, while speaking on the topic ‘Communication Tradition of Bharatvarsh’, said India has better connect with the rest of the world, despite the diversity of languages, Vedas, and literature. He said people who went to study in other countries from India studied the English language and then copied the same and created India’s education system. Due to this, the dominance of English over India’s education system and communication tradition increased.

At the concluding session, eminent alumni of IIMC interacted with the new batch of students. News Director of ‘AajTak’ Mr. Supriya Prasad, Editor-in-Chief of ‘India News’ Mr. Rana Yashwant, Public Relations Specialist Ms. Simrat Gulati, IFFCO’s Public Relations Head Mr. Harshendra Singh Verdhan and IIMC Alumni Association president Mr. Kalyan Ranjan shared their experience with the students.

Passion gets new wings – 40-year-old female airlines captain battles breast cancer, ready for take off

A 40-year-old, young female Airlines Captain (Mrs. Sudha Bengani), detected with early-stage breast cancer successfully underwent breast conservation surgery followed by chemotherapy at Max Hospital Gurugram and is all set for yet another take-off. Post surgically, she is medically fit (cancer-free) and has recently applied for renewal of her flying license, and is ready to pilot again.

In the meantime, while she is waiting to put on her wings, she and her spouse have been operating a cozy café known as Café Nautical mile which is gathering rave reviews over the net. No prize for guessing why a pilot chose to keep her café name as Nautical mile.

Being in such a profession that demands high levels of physical fitness due to the responsibility it carries with, the news of being detected with breast cancer, seemingly force landed her career. Attributing to her awareness, strength, and resilience, she fought back to living her dream which was seemingly on the verge of closure. Being self-aware, she was apt to undergo diagnosis and caught it at an early stage to face adversity with grit.

Over the last decade, even though there is a rise in the incidence of breast cancer, but with awareness, access and changing paradigms in cancer care, the mortality rate has come down gradually.

“On the occasion of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we aim to bring about the real-life risk of breast cancer to the forefront and wish to get each one of us talking and get the spotlight on breast cancer. It is the most common cancer in Indian females. The age of onset had gotten younger over the last two decades, however, still we continue to have patients who have chosen to ignore a growing lump in their breasts and or were simply not aware. A lump in the breast, maybe cancer, but the sooner you get it to, the early stage it would be and lesser would be the treatment required. Above all, you will continue to have a healthy life and live your dreams.” Said Dr Bhuvan Chugh, Consultant-Medical Oncology, Max Hospital, Gurugram

Globally, 7% of the population under the age of 40 years is suffering from breast cancer, whereas in India, the rate is double i.e., 15%. And out of which 1% of the patients are male, which put together has the highest count of breast cancer patients from India globally. Apart from being hereditary, many other risk factors like sedentary lifestyle, bingeing on alcohol, smoking, increasing obesity among youngsters, stress and poor dietary intake have been attributed to increase in the incidences of breast cancer among the young Indian women.

“Diagnosing for breast cancer among younger women (<40 years) is difficult as the tissues being denser than older women. And by the time the lump starts to show persistent symptoms, the tumor reaches an advanced stage, where it proliferates aggressively and less likely to responds to treatment. With the recent advancements in the cancer care treatment, mortality and morbidity rates among breast cancer patients have curbed down. Based on the stage and grade of the tumor, the doctor may prescribe combination of treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Hormonal Therapy or Targeted Medications.” Added Dr Chugh

There is a dire need to create awareness among masses to get most breast cancers detectable at early stages, as most women with breast cancer arrive after metastasis (when the tumor has spread to other body parts). In metastatic or advanced stages of cancer, it isn’t completely curable, and the treatment aims to achieve remission (where the tumor shrinks or disappears).

Regular Health Check-Up Essential For People With Comorbidities: Warn Doctors

Stroke Risk 5–30 Times Higher in Patients With Diabetic Kidney Disease; Maintaining Healthy Lifestyle Can Reduce Risk: Doctors

Stroke is a serious ailment because it is the third leading cause of death, after heart disease and cancer. Diabetic kidney disease or diabetic nephropathy is a form of chronic kidney. Patients with diabetic kidney disease have exceptionally high rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Due to poor control of the mechanisms underlying the strong association between diabetic kidney disease and various forms of cardiovascular disease, deaths due to strokes have increased. As per a report published by NCBI journal, the risk of stroke is 5-30 times higher in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially in those on dialysis.

Diabetic kidney disease is a type of chronic kidney disease caused by diabetes. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease in many countries including India. According to a report about 1 out of 3 adults with diabetes have kidney disease. In India, stroke cases are on rise due to diabetes, hypertension, smoking, obesity and unhealthy lifestyle. A recent scientific paper published in the Lancet Global Health shows that in 2019, stroke caused 7 lakh deaths in India. This trend is alarming in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and could further lead to the country’s disease burden.

“Chronic kidney disease patients are at increased risk of stroke, especially in presence of type 2 diabetes. It has been found to be a big risk factor as due to type 2 diabetes, there is impairment in the way the body regulates and uses sugar (glucose) as a fuel. This long-term condition results in too much sugar circulating in the bloodstream. Eventually, high blood sugar levels can lead to disorders of the circulatory, nervous, and immune systems and stroke is one such complication in kidney patients with diabetes. The risk of cardiovascular diseases, including stroke in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is 5–30 times greater than that in the general population,” says Dr Deepak Dewan, MD, DM (Nephrology), Director Renal Sciences, Regency Superspecialty Hospital.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an independent risk factor for stroke, including both hemorrhagic and ischemic subtypes. Most people with early diabetic kidney disease do not have any symptoms. The only way to know if one has diabetic kidney disease is to get examined by a doctor and get himself/herself investigates. In middle income countries like India, high prevalence of infectious causes of kidney disease as well as rising rates of hypertension and particularly of untreated diabetes are some the factors behind stroke in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Stroke risk due to diabetic kidney disease can be reduced by correcting reversible risk factors. This includes treating hypertension, stopping smoking, controlling diabetes, cardiac disease, regular exercise, adapting a healthy diet and preventing excessive use of alcohol. However, there are some nonmodifiable risk factors as well, these include age, male gender, family history of stroke, and nonwhite race.

Osho disciples recommend immediate investigation and audit of all Trusts of Pune Osho Ashram by a Central Agency

Osho Friends Foundation appeals to Hon’ble Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale, soliciting appointment of an Administrator to protect the Legacies of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh

Mumbai, October 30, 2021: A delegation of Osho disciples from Osho Friends Foundation, a public trust which preserves and proliferates the teachings of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, today submitted an appeal to Hon’ble Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale to urgently institute an Inquiry Commission to audit all trusts of Osho Ashram, Pune and Mumbai as well as stop the sale of Bhagwan Rajneesh’s properties worth over 1000 Crore at the Pune Ashram. The delegation comprised of Osho disciples Swami Prem Geet, Sunil Mirpuri, Swami Chaitanya Keerti, Swami Kul Bhushan, Ma Dharm Jyoti, and Swami Atul Anand among others.

Swami Prem Geet, Osho Friends Foundation said, “We, the disciples of Osho are seeking to protect the legacies of Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh. The legacies of Osho are national spiritual heritage which will benefit several generations to come. Our appeal to the Government of India comes in the backdrop of the Osho Ashram trust properties being siphoned outside India by foreigners and serious offences of money laundering and forgery of Osho’s will, reported against them. We therefore urge the Hon’ble Minister to set up a full-fledged Commission of Inquiry into the operations and finances of all trusts of the Osho Ashram in Pune and Mumbai with their links abroad”.

The delegation contended that Osho’s legacy was being systematically damaged and transferred overseas based on a forged will. The letter presented to the Minister stated that the intellectual properties and valuable articles of Osho have been smuggled outside of India by the present trustees and a handful of foreigners. These being priceless articles for Osho disciples are regrettably being traded in the international market for millions of dollars. Proceeds from Osho’s books, discourses, Osho websites along with cash collected at the Ashram without receipts are being deposited in dummy trusts, private companies of trustees and a handful of foreigners. The letter further mentioned that a court case against the management cites INR 1800 Crore as missing or transferred to private entities.

Hema Baweja, Osho Friends Foundation said, “Hon’ble Minister Athawale has accepted our appeal and we are optimistic that his intervention will bring justice to the Osho Community and public at large as well as prevent the loss of revenues of the Government of India in millions of dollars every year. We hope that a thorough investigation of all evidence by a central agency probe may be initiated along with an Administrator who would protect the Legacies of Bhagwan Rajneesh. The disciples of Osho are now looking up to the Central Government, seeking justice and an end to the criminal infiltration upon the heritage properties and invaluable assets comprising of the teachings of their beloved Osho Rajneesh”.

What all you need to know about Breast Cancer

by Dr Meenu Beri MD (Path)Lab HOD, Haematology, Cytopathology, Clinical Path, Lifeline Laboratory

What is Breast Cancer?

All cancers are characterized by an indiscriminate proliferation of cells at the rapid rate. Breast cancer occurs when this cell proliferation begins in the breast. A leading cancer among women in India, it is second only to cervical cancer, but reassuringly, it is also the most treatable of all types of cancers, if detected at an early stage (stage I-II). Post-menopausal women (over 55 years of age) are more vulnerable. However, its prevalence among younger women is on the rise. Preventive screening every 2 years is imperative, especially if a first- degree female relative in the immediate family (grandmother, mother, aunt or sister) is diagnosed with it.

Although it is a rare occurrence, men too, can get breast cancer – ductal carcinoma and lobular carcinoma being the most likely types. The symptoms are more or less the same in both genders.

Symptoms

Symptoms may be latent or blatant, as they may manifest differently in different women. They may appear long after the cancer has already developed, or there may be no apparent symptoms at all. The following symptoms are, however, common in most cases:

• Any lumps and inflamed or swollen lymph nodes on or around the breast, armpit and collar bone must be subjected to a doctor’s screening without delay. Every lump may not necessarily be a cancer – but it could be a cyst, blocked milk gland, abscess or fibro-adenoma (a smooth, rubbery and benign lump of fat deposit which moves upon touching).
• ‘Orange peel’ appearance or dimpled appearance of the breast.
• Thickening, flaking, scaling, discoloration or bruising of breast skin.
• Rash or irritation.
• Watery or bloody discharge from nipples.
• Changes in the breast shape.
• Retracted, pulled in or inverted nipples.
• Pain and tenderness in or around the breast area.
• Lumps tend to develop more commonly in the left breast.

The presence of certain risk factors may indicate a higher breast cancer risk:

• Family history of cancer, and if a first- degree female relative (grandmother, mother, aunt, or sister) has got breast cancer.
• Post-menopausal women above 55 years are at high risk.
• Early onset menarche (beginning of menstruation before 11-12 years) late-onset menopause (cessation of menstruation after 55 years).
• No past history of breast feeding.
• Smoking and alcohol consumption.
• Overweight or obesity can also increase the risk.

Signs of metastatic breast cancer (cancer which has spread to other parts of the body), of which one may not be aware, could include general weakness, headache and nausea without any plausible reason, trouble breathing, jaundiced eyes, skin pallor, swelling in abdomen, weight loss, etc.

Preventive care

The most significant fact to remember is that preventive screening is of utmost importance in the presence of one or more of the above symptoms and risk factors. There are some unalterable risk factors like family history, but some risk factors can be controlled with adopting a healthy lifestyle.

– Take a balanced diet with whole grains (go for complex carbohydrates like multigrain atta and bread, porridge, oats, muesli), fresh, dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, mustard leaves, fenugreek leaves, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, kale, and fruits like banana, apple, pear, papaya, strawberries, etc. Include nuts like almonds, figs, and walnuts in the diet.

– Plenty of physical activity will keep you fit and prevent muscles and bones from going lax. Take a 45-minute brisk walk daily and take up light weight training to stay fit and active.

– Quit smoking and avoid excessive alcohol intake.
