Funding alert: Hindustan Media Ventures buys minority stake as part of strategic investment in podcast company Hubhopper

New Delhi: Delhi- based podcast hosting, creation and distribution company Hubhopper has raised an undisclosed amount as a strategic investment from Hindustan Times Media Ventures.

Earlier, Hubhopper had raised over $500k across several rounds of investment from angel investors and institutional investors, including ITI Growth Opportunities Fund, Unit-E Ventures, and more.

Hubhopper will use the funds to continue growing the podcast ecosystem in India by democratising and empowering Indian creators with tools and technologies to create, host, launch, distribute, analyze and monetize their podcasts and audio content.

Further, they will continue to grow their products and podcast distribution network of over 50+ partners and integrations — currently including the likes of Samsung, Spotify, Gaana, Wynk, Paytm, PhonePe, Karbonn, Indus OS, and more.

The deal comes at a time when tech & media giants, both in India and globally, are doubling down to own a piece of India’s rapidly growing podcast market. Just earlier in November 2020, Tencent backed Pratilipi had acquired podcast firm IVM Podcasts — moving towards the consolidation of the podcast space in India, the first of many moves and alliances to come.

Globally, this alliance comes at a time of incredible fervour and activity across the podcast landscape that has been witnessed over the past 18 months, with events including audio streaming giant Spotify acquiring a host of podcast houses and platforms, including Gimlet Media, Parcast, Megaphone, and Anchor.

On the other hand, Amazon has placed its bets in the podcast market by purchasing 4-year-old podcast network Wondery and Sirius XM has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy podcasting companies Stitcher and Simplecast. Most recently social media giant Twitter has entered the fray, acquiring podcast platform Breaker.

Gokul Gopi and his team on the other hand designed a Japanese-inspired concept on “Sanitization of Rooms for Aggregate hotel chains that provide an online booking platform” keeping in mind the need of a post pandemic world – the very theme of the challenge this year. In an Open Design Challenge of choice, IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay allowed a sea of infinite ideas to the participants to present pertaining to sanitation, health and hygiene across industries and fields for a better India.

In their winning attempt, the team displayed a model that could let customers take normal vacations and feel safe back again allowing them to witness live streaming of sanitization of their hotel room prior to check-in! This would help achieve consumer satisfaction, enhancement of tourism and business building opportunities for holiday agencies and organized hotel chain companies.

Amity University Haryana Inks MoU with Taipei Economic and Cultural Center for Teaching Mandarin Chinese Language

Amity University Haryana a leading private university today signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the august presence of Ambassador His Excellency, Mr. Baushuan Ger for cooperation and collaboration between India and Taiwan in teaching Mandarin Chinese Language to the students of Amity University Haryana.

“This is the beginning of the cooperation and the collaboration between the two sides. We shall facilitate the academic exchange between Amity University Haryana and Universities of Taiwan”, said His Excellency Mr. Baushuan Ger, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC) who expressed his delight on visiting the research & innovation driven Amity University Haryana today.

Expressing his profound happiness in inking the MoU with Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, Kulpati Prof P B Sharma greeted His Excellency Mr. Baushuan Ger with a deep sense of appreciation of the hi-tech science and technology research and innovations being carried out in universities in Taiwan and desired that further collaborative ties in areas of great national and global importance be taken up in future. These areas include Artificial Intelligence and automation, Industry 4.0 technologies, Nano Science and technologies and Environmental Science and Human Health.

Prof Sharma recalled his visit to leading Universities of Taiwan when he led the VC’s delegation from India to Taiwan for the University President’s Forum in Taipei in 2018 during his tenure as the President of Association of Indian Universities, AIU.

Taiwan and India both share a common culture and spiritual heritage belonging to the larger Asian philosophy of the Vedic times and thus the people of the two sides have a strong cultural bond to foster a new era of cultural and scientific cooperation and collaboration. Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman joins the leaders of tomorrow at IIM Ahmedabad for an interactive session

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), welcomed Hon’ble Finance Minister of India, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, as she joined MBA students of the globally recognized, premier management institute, for an interactive session on the theme ‘The Economic Rebound and the Indian Economy in 2021 and Beyond’ with its students.

Hosted by IIMA’s JSW-School of Public Policy, was the first on ground event held at the Institute since the pandemic. The session threw light on various aspects of the Indian economy including return of consumer confidence, robust financial markets, an uptick in manufacturing, education sector and the decrease in the budget allocation this year, PSU disinvestment target, health expenditure, skill India, fuel prices reduction, savings and borrowing scheme, upskilling: for automation and gig workers, investment in infrastructure, agriculture and many more.

Acting as co-chairs, Prof. Errol D’Souza, with IIMA students Mr. Arunabh Saxena and Ms. Sonakshi Agrawal, among other points discussed about disinvestment targets of PSUs and government’s approach towards it. They also addressed the concerns of consumers bearing the high costs of fuel today and how is the government resolving these challenges.

When asked about the rationale and steps taken by the government to ensure quality education, Smt. Sitharaman said, “That the desire for encouraging twinning programmes in hopes of getting a world class university certificate and technologically driven tools like optical fibres even at the panchayat level will add to the betterment of education in the country. Hence there has been a conscious attempt in improving the funding of education. I would want to underline the fact that the New Education Policy, the schemes under it, and the long term vision under which the NEP looks at making the Indian education a lot more vibrant has received due consideration in the budget making process.”

Smt. Sitharaman further addressed that the Indian economy was on a rebound and she expects to see an economic recovery in the coming year. While the budget gave a due consideration to the national education policy and its schemes, she also believes that there is a huge potential of digital learning in the country across states, especially for the ones who have lesser access to it. She also threw light on the need for skilling and up skilling across industries and its success rates with a focussed approach.

The institute has a unique model of a convivial combination of the union, state and the business community. IIMA research programmes are the most coveted and prominent in the areas like Strategy, Economics, Finance, Operations and Marketing. Today is a historic day not only for Sri Sri University but also for the world to launch the first of its kind in the globe, Sri Sri School of Cyber Peace and five other Centers and Faculty which will offer 20 programs in the upcoming academic year 2021-22. CyberPeace Foundation and Sri Sri University have joined hands for “Infusing CyberPeace in cyberspace”. The first step towards the goal is the launch of “Sri Sri School of CyberPeace”, a joint initiative of CyberPeace Foundation and Sri Sri University (SSU) in the presence of Poojya Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji. The School is committed to strengthen the global CyberPeace Ecosystem through the research and innovation focused educational framework in sync with the ace initiative from the CyberPeace Foundation. The curriculum for the degree Programmes in the field of cyber security has been conceptualized keeping in mind the Learning Outcome-based Curriculum Framework (LOCF) on the one hand and having 65% plus hands on experience for the students as per the spirit of National Education Policy 2020 on the the other hand. This will enhance their employability quotient as well as entrepreneurial skills so that they are competent enough to start up their own ventures which is a step towards ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

As per the Cybersecurity Ventures, there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs globally by the end of 2021, up from one million positions in 2014. Mr. Erik Solheim, Former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Former Minister of International Development and Environment, Norway said, Water management and environment are the most critical issues of our time. Mr. Solheim pointed out that water is precious for life and he applauded the initiative of Poojya Gurudev and The Art of Living to conserve water. He further stated that water is the most precious and important issue of the global community for climate change, be it melting of glacier in Himalayas and its effects on river systems of India, China, etc., the rise of sea level, cyclonic storm and extreme weather events. He applauded the commitment of Sri Sri Centre for Advanced Research in Water Resources and Environment Management to work in such an important domain to address the issues of water, agriculture and environment.

Government of Ireland announces Scholarships worth €1,500,000 for Indian students

Ireland has become and remains one of the top English speaking destinations for international students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Thus, to encourage students and provide them assistance, the Government of Ireland has announced scholarships worth €1,500,000.

Mr. Giles O’Neill, Director of Education in Ireland while announcing the scholarships mentions, “There are various choices with regards to scholarships. Firstly, the Higher Education Institutes of Ireland themselves are offering merit based scholarships. Besides, Education in Ireland, as a national brand, will be giving scholarships to 10 Indian students on the day of the showcase. Each of the scholarships given is worth €3,000 for fee reduction.”

Education in Ireland, the national brand under the authority of the Minister for Education and Skills that is responsible for the promotion of Irish Higher Education Institutions overseas, to further promote Ireland as an educational destination has announced an additional scholarship worth € 30,000 for Indian students who will be attending the Virtual Showcase.

Further highlighting the scholarships provided by Education in Ireland, Mr. O’Neill says, Under the initiative of ‘Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships 2021’, 60 scholarships will be provided for one year’s education at Bachelor, Masters of PhD levels to qualified candidates. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Paves Way For Mass Deployment of Open RAN in 5G Networks with Industry-First Open RAN Solution Stack

New Delhi – Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE)  announced the HPE Open RAN Solution Stack to enable the commercial deployment of Open RAN at scale in global 5G networks. The HPE Open RAN Solution Stack includes HPE’s orchestration and automation software, RAN specific infrastructure blueprints and telco optimized infrastructure. HPE service management and orchestration software supports telco networks from the core to the edge, reducing risk and allowing operators to seize the benefits of 5G. The HPE Open RAN Solution Stack also features the new HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen10 Plus server – the industry’s first Open RAN (radio access network) workload optimized server.

The HPE Open RAN Solution Stack has been developed by HPE’s newly formed Communications Technology Group (CTG), which offers one of the broadest telco portfolios in the market, and has been created to help telcos and enterprises take advantage of the huge 5G market opportunity with a family of open, interoperable solution stacks. “At least four proof-of-concept exploit scripts for CVE-2021-21972, a critical remote code execution flaw in VMWare’s vCenter Server solution are currently available. We know that the availability of proof-of-concept code or exploit scripts following the publication of a critical vulnerability is a boon for threat actors.

“While some cybercriminals may be adept at developing their own proof-of-concept exploits, threat actors are keen on leveraging what’s publicly available, as evidenced in the Copy Paste Compromises report from the Australian Cyber Security Centre in June 2020 that arrived at the same conclusion.

“There are confirmed reports that attackers are probing for vulnerable vCenter Server systems. According to a Shodan search, there are over 6,700 publicly accessible vCenter Servers.
