Six start-ups in Oncology and Digital Health to receive grants of 65 lacs each under Pfizer’s INDovation Program

Delhi, September 12, 2022: Program partners Pfizer LimitedAtal Innovation Mission (AIM)NITI AayogSocial AlphaFoundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT-Delhi and AGNIi, with UN Health Innovation Exchange (UNHIEX) as the knowledge partner, today announced the six winners of the first edition of Pfizer INDovation incubation initiative for healthcare start-ups. The focus is on oncology and digital health, because of the increasing burden of cancer in India and the emerging use of digital health to ensure better patient outcomes.  The six winners who will be given a grant of Rs. 65 lacs each will receive incubation support from AIM, NITI Aayog and IIT Delhi. Pfizer will provide the grant as well as mentorship and technical assistance to the start-ups and Social Alpha will provide program acceleration support. 

This incubation program, launched in April 2022, which will run for two years, will help to accelerate the lab-to-market journey of these winning startups. Apart from the grant, this support will include product engineering and development services, clinical validation guidance, regulatory advisory, identification of market access opportunities and catalytic cross-industrial collaborations.

The winners under “Digital Health” category include BrainSight Technologies Pvt Ltd.’s Voxel Box that uses an AI-based computational engine to extract brain connectivity and activity patterns, and hard-to-understand structural features, as well as temporally dynamic symptoms. RAMJA Genosensor provides a rapid, easy, and cost-effective novel paper-based device to detect microbial infection and antimicrobial resistance in less than 2 hours. AI Health Highway India Pvt Ltd.’s Ai-Steth is a smart stethoscope to screen, detect and predict heart and lung disorders using artificial intelligence and machine learning. 

Under “Oncology”, Oncophenomics Life Sciences Pvt Ltd. has developed a tumour-informed liquid biopsy CGP test that helps circumvent the issues of non-approachable biopsy regions. Pragmatech Healthcare Solutions Pvt.’s CERVICHECK™ Kit provides a clinically conclusive and comprehensive solution for effective preventive cervical cancer screening implementation in a low resource setting, by addressing India-centric challenges of low-recall and drop-outs. Tera Lumen Solutions Pvt Ltd. has developed a non-invasive imaging device that can detect accurate cancer margins intraoperatively and rapidly (within ten minutes of surgery). 

The INDovation program received applications from over 200 start-ups in the country. Each of these went through a rigorous vetting process by the jury before the final selection was made. The evaluation criteria was exhaustive and included the potential impact of the product/solution, technological innovation, unique value proposition, competitive advantage, financial and operational scalability and clarity on the future roadmap.

AIM and NITI Aayog will provide the six winners access to their entire network of incubators and facilities through co-incubation and will also give them technical and strategic advice. The winning start-ups will get customised incubation support across India, through IIT Delhi, the principal incubation partner, other major technology institutes and the incubation network of Atal Innovation Mission across India.

MRG School organises a blood donation camp in collaboration with Rotary Club

MRG School organised a blood donation camp at its school. The student’s parents came forward to donate blood to help those in need. It was a mark of voluntary and active participation by parents, which drew praise from teachers and administration alike. It was done in collaboration with Rotary Club.

The blood donors were first examined properly, and only when they were deemed to be physically fit, they were cleared out to donate blood. The doctors gave proper instructions as to what they should eat and drink after blood donation. The medical staff explained the importance of donating blood and how it could help human society.

Cleanliness was taken care of, and proper hygiene was maintained at the site. Rooms were properly washed and cleaned before the blood donation camp was set up.

The parents expressed their deep regard to the school for giving them an opportunity to be a part of a noble initiative. Children also pledged to donate blood after seeing their parents’ benevolent step.

BITS Pilani collaborates with Coursera to launch first online B.Sc in Computer Science from top ranked engineering institute in India

September 12, 2022, | Kolkata: Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani, an Institute of Eminence and a globally acclaimed Indian institute in science, engineering, and management domains, has collaborated with Coursera, one of the world’s leading online learning platforms, to launch an online Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Computer Science.

Designed to serve Indian and global audiences, BITS Pilani’s B.Sc degree will expand access to high-quality computer science education. The programme’s job-relevant curriculum, designed with inputs from various industry partners, will empower learners to develop advanced skills in software development, data analysis, and core systems, alongside leadership and soft skills.

With 28 million new technology jobs projected to emerge in India by 2025, there is a growing need for technical talent. A recent Nasscom-Zinnov report estimates a shortfall of 14 to 19 lakh technology professionals in India by 2026. Ambrane Glares have built-in hidden speakers that can be controlled via multi-functional touch controls mounted on the temple of the glasses, a MEMS microphone, and HD surround sound that is water resistant thanks to an IPX4 rating. The eyewear integrates audio technology that connects to a smart device via Bluetooth 5.1, so that sound can be transferred to speakers that sit beside the ears. The speakers in the glasses eliminate loud ambient noise, allowing for a fully immersive acoustic experience. Glares promise up to 7 hours of battery backup on a single charge.

The smart glasses feature instant pairing, smart style, and a unique Hall switch technology that connects as soon as the temples are opened. The Glares provide connectivity up to 10 meters away. The eyewear has touch controls that can control a variety of features such as accepting and rejecting calls, controlling playback, and using the voice assistance. The smart glasses are UV400 certified and have interchangeable blue-light filtering transparent lenses. They have an IPX4 rating for water resistance.

The glasses are 99.99% UV protected that reduces eye fatigue and protection from eye strain when in use.
