Not An Activity But A Necessity- The Alarming Need To Incorporate Exercise Into The Routine Of Your Pets

By Vanya Chandel, Founder, Forfurs

The rising conversations surrounding health have now become a routine part of everyone’s lifestyle. Every day, we as humans come across multiple articles telling us the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle and including activity within our routine. However, we as individuals have become extremely sedentary in our daily life and this may unconsciously influence our pets leading to the same routine followed by them. Exercising your pets is not an activity anymore, it has become a necessity owing to the increasing number of health issues faced by pets due to the lack of routine exercise.

Whether you hit the gym yesterday or a year ago, one is are aware of the adrenaline rush, health benefits and mood amplification felt after an exercise session. How can one forget that this is equally important for our furry pets too in order to keep them healthy and happy? Investing time in exercising your pet is more worthwhile than investing in the worries that come if neglected.

Today, it is the need of the hour to maintain an active lifestyle not just for yourself but also for your furry pets. According to a survey conducted by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 60% of cats and 56% of dogs in the United States were found to be obese or overweight. With the constant rise in such figures, it has become an alarming need for pet parents to turn to physical activities for the purpose of their health. The most common answer to the reason behind their lack of exercise was that they were “too busy”. Today, a number of pet parents are actively involving their pets to be a part of their workout sessions which has led to the introduction of dog gyms and dog parks.

Due to the COVID -19 pandemic and the increasing need to confine pets to remain indoors, there has been an excessive rise in the awareness of mental and physical health of pets. This led to many pet parents to fall into the trap of being lazy and avoiding exercise and has created an ever-increasing need for pet parents to further focus on their pet’s physical activity post lockdown. This boosted the necessity to find alternative means to exercise pets indoors leading to the inception of innovative indoor exercises.

With exercise being the need of the hour for pets, there are a few simple routine practices that can be maintained and followed by every pet parent. To be at the top of the game make sure to include activities like Fetch, Fun with Food, Fun with Toys and Routine Training for your pets. Let your pet’s exercise routine be the motivation behind your daily exercise too as exercise is equally important for the both of you.

The Pet Grooming Industry Is Breeding Into A $358.62 Billion Market

By Vanya Chandel, Founder, Forfurs

The first known instances of grooming pets came from ancient Greece. If you are not familiar with Greek mythology yet, Hades, the God of the dead and the King of the underworld, had a three-headed dog called Cerberus. Greek culture was known to popularise keeping dogs as pets. The history of pet grooming is still vague because the health and well-being of pets at the time were much more of a routine than a priority or requirement.

Today, an increasing number of people are spending lavishly on their pets because they view them as a family member rather than just a pet, prioritizing investing in their overall health. This has led to massive growth in the grooming expenditure among companion animals from a holistic wellness approach, all-natural pet care, pet grooming, retail businesses, subscriptions to personalized services. This industry shows no signs of slowing down. With pet parents growing progressively aware of their food purchases, and accessories, there has been an incline in providing pets with the best quality products.

The global market for pets grooming products is valued at USD 9.9 billion in 2018 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.7% from 2019 to 2025.

With the rise in pet adoptions and humanization, the spending force on various grooming supplies, products, accessories, treats, and foods has drastically increased. With more people being educated about pet health there has been a transition in purchasing better, sustainable, grooming products, with a growing trend of buying organic products which have created a whole other industry of shampoos, conditioners, etc. This has propelled the growth of the pet grooming & accessory market.

As per a report published by Fior Markets, the global pet care market is expected to grow from USD 225 billion in 2019 and to reach USD 358.62 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 6% during the forecast period 2020-2027 while the Indian pet food market is projected to witness a CAGR of 13.5% during the forecast period (2020-2025).

According to The American Pet Products Association, almost 85 million households have a pet and over the last 30 years, pet ownership has gone from 56% to 68% of all households with the pandemic acting as an accelerator to keep individuals company while working from home.

The concept of owning pets and taking care of them is a very urban phenomenon in India. The growth of the market, therefore, is mainly dependent on the pace of urbanization. Sharing a household with a pet has been known to appear as a buffer against mental health problems particularly during the lockdown. As Gen Z’s and millennials have progressed into adulthood they have accepted, embraced, and contributed to the best pet lifestyle to a far greater extent than their ancestors have, accounting for 62% of pet households, whereas Baby Boomers account for only 32% of pet households.

As the Pet grooming industry continues to evolve, adapt, and grow Forfurs and many other brands like it want to help these pet parents choose the right products for their pets. Using only the finest raw materials each product is handcrafted in our workshop by skilled artisans.

Sensitising the Society to the Adoption of Pets, Forfurs initiates a Social Awareness Campaign #Adoptdontshop

Forfurs, a premium pet-accessory brand, has initiated their #Adoptdontshopcampaign across social platforms including various influential personalities as well as your girls and boys next door, showcasing heart-warming adoption stories of their pets.

The Adopt, Don’t Shop movement took form in India in the year 2008. The main objective of this movement was to rescue and foster or adopt orphaned animals giving them a safe place to reside in. It reminds us that in a world where there are so many precious animals hungry for love, it may be better to cater to the abandoned animals before opting to purchase animals through breeders and other sources.

ForFurs is avidly working towards this cause. Their new campaign #AdoptDontShop urges people to come up and tell the world the story of how they met their furry friends. The motive behind this campaign, according to Vanya Chandel (Founder of the brand), is “As a society, we must ask ourselves exactly why we want to own dogs, cats or any other domestic animals? Is it because we truly enjoy their companionship and love them? If the answer to this question is yes, then it should not matter which breed becomes a part of your family.”

Vanya, a successful businesswoman in the pet industry, fell in love with dogs after being terrified of them her entire life, due to the inclusion of her bundle of happiness, ‘Hugo’, in her family. Her passion and love for these furry friends, along with the search for premium pet products for Hugo, is what led her to start ForFurs.

The ‘#Adoptdontshop campaign, which has been live on Instagram since the 14th of December 2020, has garnered various eyeballs. People from all over the country sent in their stories about how they first met their pets, whom they proceeded to adopt. With giveaways for the best stories sent, ForFurs chose the most inspirational stories sent by their followers.

Sherrnavaz Sam Jijina from Mirzapur fame quoted “Brownie, my dog was abandoned near my building but since the time we took him in, he has absolutely been a blessing. It’s really sad to see how people just leave their pets on the road, because they are ill or cannot take care of them. Especially during difficult times like these, all we need is a reminder that even animals need our love and compassion. So, thanks to Forfurs for taking this up seriously and encouraging people to #Adoptdontshop.”

With an increasing amount of people becoming aware of the ill effects of animal breeding, we still have a long way to go. With around 35 million dogs and cats left unattended and to the mercy of the streets, the number has grown by 17 percent since 2016. The majority live tough lives, scavenging for food among garbage and fighting every day to survive while they sleep on the cold bare footpaths. It is our responsibility to make sure we reduce this number and give these helpless and abandoned animals a home they deserve. Next time you think of getting yourself a companion, rethink your decision of visiting a kennel, and head to your nearest adoption centre, because what’s better than giving a homeless and helpless animal a roof over its head?

Treat your fur balls with brand new accessories this Diwali

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”- Mahatma Gandhi.

Diwali, the festival of lights is right around the corner. The preparations for the festival seem to be a little extra zealous this year given that this is one of the first festivals we will get to celebrate in 2020, while still maintaining regulatory norms. The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown had made celebrating festivals dangerous and almost impossible. However, with certain relaxations coming into play, families and loved ones will have more access to meeting one another on this auspicious occasion.

The lockdown has been difficult on everyone but according to Science Daily, most pet owners say that their pets helped them cope emotionally with the lockdown. Now that things are opening up during Unlock 4.0 and we can finally meet our friends or loved ones again, our fur babies have taken a backseat.

Founder of Forfurs, Vanya Chandel adds, “Most pet owners know that making your pet happy is not an uphill battle, they are happy with a little extra food or an extended playtime, and as pet parents, we want the best for our furballs of happiness.”

Forfurs has a range of products that could show your fur baby how much they mean to you. Forfurs uses the finest raw materials and each product is handcrafted in their workshop by skilled artisans. It is a smart, sustainable, and stylish gift for your pet.

This Diwali, Forfurs has a few special offers to help you pamper your pet:
1) 10% discount on Martingales
2) 15% discount on Leash
3) Buy Collar+Leash together and get a 10% discount
