Council forHigher Education of Israel Announces Study in Israel Virtual Showcase for Indian students on March 7th

New Delhi: The global higher education sector has demonstrated resilience during the challenging period of COVID-19. In Israel, theCouncil for Higher Education together with all Israeli universities and institutes have invested significant energy to prevent the pandemic from disrupting education and to enable students to continue to engage in excellence. Efforts have been focused on ensuring that studying in Israel remains accessible, welcoming, and safe for international students and researchers.

In this respect, the Council for Higher Education of Israel is organising a virtual fair for potential international students who are interested in furthering their education and looking for the best academic program for them. Scheduled on 7thMarch 2021, the virtual fair aims to provide potential students the opportunity to learn about the distinctive and engaged approach to education that Israel offers its students and to speak directly to university and college representatives about their options. Information will be shared about the various programs, fields of study and institutions in Israel.

Marissa Gross Yarm, Head of International Student Affairs, Council for Higher Education, Israel, said, “The Study in Israel Virtual Fair aims to be a highly interactive experience. The fair is the perfect opportunity for students to interact with representatives from Israeli academic institutions, as well as current Indian students from various Israeli universities, to learn about the programs offered, scholarships and financial aid available, student experience, safety, visa processes and other travel and Covid safety information.”

Israel has a total of 61higher education institutions, including nine world-class universities, 32 colleges, and 21 teacher training colleges. Out of the nine universities in Israel, seven were featured in the 2020 U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings. The universities offer hundreds of Bachelors, Masters, PhD and short-term courses in English.

The country is currently home to over 1200 Indian students and has been actively encouraging students from India to Study in Israel. Even during the pandemic, Israel issued student visas and enabled international students to commence their studies in the beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year. A special chartered flight from Mumbai to Tel Aviv brought 100 returning and new PhD and postdoctoral researchers at all eight research universities in Israel during the pandemic. International students in Israel, Indians included, are also currently benefiting from the country’s rigorous vaccine drive.

This virtual fair will help participants gather knowledge about opportunities that Israel offers by attending detailed webinars, info sessions, initiating live chats with university representatives and receiving advice from the Council of Higher Education.

Council for Higher Education, Israel announces the Ph.D. Sandwich Scholarship Program

The Council for Higher Education, Israel is pleased to announce scholarship program for international Ph.D. students to study in Israel for a duration of up to one year as part of the doctoral studies – a “Ph.D. Sandwich Program.” This will provide outstanding international Ph.D. candidates the opportunity to further their doctoral research through a unique academic experience in Israel, while collaborating with leading scholars and scientists.

Through this initiative, Israel seeks to attract top young recent Ph.D. graduates to take on a postdoctoral position with leading scientists and scholars in Israel on cutting-edge research in all fields of science, social science and humanities.

Program Outline:

  • The program is intended for Ph.D. students completing a “Sandwich program” of up to one year at each of the eight universities that offer doctoral programs: Ben-Gurion University, Bar Ilan University, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Technion, Tel Aviv University, Weizmann Institute of Science, University of Haifa, and Ariel University.
  • The university will publish a public call for this program and conduct an internal selection process which will ensure high academic quality of scholarship recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified by the university by February 15, 2021.
  • The annual scholarship will be 80,000 NIS per year (Rs. 17 Lakhs approx.). If a scholarship recipient is in Israel for less than one year, the scholarship amount will be determined based on the actual time the scholarship recipient studied in Israel. Scholarships will not be awarded to doctoral students who spend less than three months at the host university.

Eligibility: To be considered for the scholarship applicants must be:

  • Enrolled in a doctoral degree program at an accredited institution of higher education overseas. The program will be open to students from all countries and in all academic disciplines.
  • The student should have completed their first year of doctoral studies successfully.
  • The student should not be a citizen or a resident of Israel.

Application Timeline: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the current call for applications is open for candidates who plan to arrive in Israel beginning of Spring 2021.

Application Process: Interested candidates must apply directly to the relevant Israeli university.
