BIT Mesra signs MoU with Mr. Madan Mohan Mohanka to establish the “Madan Mohan Mohanka Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship”.

New Delhi, September 4, 2025: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mr. Madan Mohan Mohanka, Chairman of Tega Industries (Distinguished Alumnus of BIT Mesra, Class of 1964), to establish the Madan Mohan Mohanka Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the BIT Mesra campus, in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Driven by his deep commitment to advancing innovation and entrepreneurship in India, Mr. Mohanka has generously pledged ₹5 Crores (Rupees Five Crores only) to BIT Mesra. This contribution will support the establishment of the Centre, envisioned as a dynamic hub for startup incubation, research, innovation and entrepreneurial ventures. It will empower students, faculty and the regional youth to transform ideas into impactful enterprises.

The MoU signing ceremony was graced by Mr. CK Birla, Chairman of the CKA Birla Group, alongside Mr. Mohanka, Chairman Tega Industries. Also present were esteemed alumni of BIT Mesra including Mr. Vijay Burman (Class of 1969), Mr. Prem Anup Sinha (Class of 1991) Mrs. Anjana Dikshit (Class of 1986), Ms. Soma Bannerjee (Class of 1996) as well as university leadership – Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor of BIT Mesra and Prof. Shradha Shivani, Dean of Alumni and International Relations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Madan Mohan Mohanka shared his pride in giving back to his alma mater by supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growth of impactful startups at the institute.

“With the establishment of the Madan Mohan Mohanka Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, my vision is to inspire students to dream big and develop solutions that address the critical challenges of our time. This MoU carries deep personal significance, as it enables me to contribute meaningfully to both my alma mater and society,” said Mr. Mohanka.

Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor of BIT Mesra, expressed his gratitude and emphasized that this generous contribution will significantly advance the institute’s mission of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.  “The Centre will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and expert mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs, driving economic growth and job creation. It will also serve as a vibrant hub where creativity meets execution, enabling sustainable development,” said Prof. Manna.

Mr. Prem Anup Sinha, who is the Deputy Managing Director of State Bank of India, stated that the Startup Banking service of SBI will be offering support to the center through mentorship as well as financing of deserving incubates.

This initiative will inspire other alumni to come forward and contribute towards strengthening the culture of entrepreneurship and innovation at the institute. The Centre is poised to play a pivotal role in nurturing startups, strengthening industry academia collaboration and equipping students with future forward skills to excel in India’s rapidly evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem and make a mark on the global stage.
