Feb 15:In a historic event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first Hindu temple in the United Arab Emirates on February 14, 2024. The temple, located in Abu Dhabi, is a symbol of the cultural and religious harmony between India and the UAE, as well as the growing ties between the two nations.

The temple, which is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, is spread over 55,000 square meters and can accommodate up to 10,000 devotees at a time. The temple complex also features a cultural center, a library, a museum, a food court, and a garden. The temple’s architecture reflects the traditional Indian style, with intricate carvings, domes, and spires.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by PM Modi, UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and other dignitaries from both countries. PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the UAE government for granting the land for the temple and praised the UAE’s vision of tolerance and inclusiveness. He also said that the temple would serve as a bridge between the people of India and the UAE and foster mutual understanding and respect.

The temple is expected to be a major attraction for the Hindu community in the UAE, which comprises about 3.3 million people, or 30% of the total population. The temple will also welcome people of other faiths and backgrounds, as per the teachings of Lord Swaminarayan, who advocated for universal brotherhood and peace.

The temple is a testament to the strong bilateral relations between India and the UAE, which have been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2017. The two countries have cooperated in various fields, such as trade, energy, defense, security, health, education, and culture. The two leaders also discussed ways to enhance their cooperation further in areas such as renewable energy, space, digital economy, and counter-terrorism.

The inauguration of the temple is a historic milestone for both India and the UAE and a sign of their shared commitment to promoting peace, harmony, and diversity in the region and the world.
