
New Delhi, Mar 14: Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang chaired a preparatory meeting with the Sikkim Anglers Association, along with officials from the Fisheries, Tourism, Roads & Bridges, Forest, and Sports departments at Samman Bhawan on Thursday afternoon.
The meeting focused on exploring the potential of developing Sikkim as a premier angling destination. Discussions centred on promoting the practice of catch and release angling to ensure the conservation of fish while showcasing the State’s pristine lakes and diverse aquatic species.
Chief Minister also deliberated on promoting angling as a sustainable sport, with an emphasis on conserving aquatic life and encouraging responsible fishing practices. The initiative aims to create awareness about sustainable fishing while simultaneously supporting the local economy through nature-based tourism.
The Chief Minister further highlighted that with its rich biodiversity and scenic water bodies, Sikkim holds significant potential to develop angling tourism in a manner that balances recreation, conservation, and community participation.
