Bangalore Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (BSOG) Hosts International Conference on ‘Woman & Girl Child’ in Bengaluru
In honor of this year’s International Women’s Day, the Bangalore Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (BSOG) hosted an international conference themed ‘Girl Child – Power and Potential, Torchbearer of Society’. The conference included faculty of medical experts and healthcare leaders who gathered to address topical issues and clinical updates in the continuum of care for women across the rapidly changing global healthcare landscape with emphasis on an evidence-based approach to providing seamless preventive and curative care.
The program was inaugurated by Shri. Dr. K Sudhakar, Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education, Govt of Karnataka alongside Dr. S Shanthakumari, President of The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI).
The two-day pre-conference workshops held at Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital on 3rd and 4th March included sessions on the topic of Urogynecology, Cosmetic Gynecology, and Sexual Health which saw participation from a large number of members from the medical fraternity.
The conference on the 5th and 6th of March will address some important issues with regards to women’s health and will include sessions on adolescent mental health, maternal cardiac arrests, CPR, Reproductive aging, pre-marital counseling, STD prevention among many others. A few other topics that will be discussed include the Impact of COVID on women’s health, Violence against women, family welfare, and planning. The program will also include sessions from powerful and successful women who will share their life stories and the challenges they have overcome.
Speaking on the inauguration of the conference, Dr. Padmini Prasad, the President of BSOG said “ We are elated to present this International Conference, which is a platform for professionals of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology fraternity to come together and deliberate on topics that are of utmost importance in our profession. The theme set for this year is ‘Woman’s Wellness and Illness -Speak the Unspoken’, our conference covers topics of prime importance for women and highlights the journey of the girl child from her nurtured entry in utero to dignified exit. We are glad that over xx doctors from across the city participated in this program and contributed to making it an overwhelming success.”
Founded in 1968 by Dr. Rathna Bai Moray, the then Professor and HOD at the Vanivilas Hospital, the Bangalore Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology was the first ObG society to be started in Karnataka and the 24th member society of Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI). Currently, it comprises over 950 practicing ObGyns who have put themselves together to keep themselves updated on recent developments in the field and translate that into positive measures to improve the health status of women.
