With Delhi-NCR grappling with rising AQI levels and deteriorating air quality, Bajaj Foundation, TECNO and YuWaah UNICEF came together to organise a tree plantation drive at the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, reaffirming their commitment to ecological restoration and climate resilience.
The initiative reflects a collective effort towards restoring fragile urban ecosystems through sustained,on-ground climate action. V olunteers from these organisations planted 700 native saplings across the sanctuary, a critical wetland ecosystem that supports rich biodiversity and acts as a natural air purifier for the region.
Shohini Dutta, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Bajaj Foundation, stated: “At Bajaj Foundation, we believe climate action must move beyond conversation and take root on the ground. With Delhi-NCR grappling with alarming air quality levels, nature-based solutions like plantation and eco-restoration are no longer optional—they are essential. Through this plantation drive,we aim to involve citizens, especially young people, as active partners in restoring green cover and building cleaner, healthier cities.”
The Foundation has previously undertaken similar ecological restoration efforts in regions deeply affected by environmental degradation, reinforcing its approach of working across both urban and fragile ecological zones. TECNO’s spokesperson added, “At TECNO, we believe that corporate responsibility extends beyond technology; it’s about the air we all breathe. We want the next generation to inherit a world where they can step outside and breathe easy, with access to the clean air and water they deserve. In a city battling pollution, this drive with the Bajaj Foundation is a tangible step toward that future. The drive also sought to inspire young people and local communities to become active custodians of the environment, emphasising that long-term climate solutions begin with small but intentional actions.
