Helping Hands of Kolkata a city based Social Impact Group to Organize Store of Happiness in Sundarbans on December 06,2020

Helping Hands of Kolkata (HHoK) – a social impact group set up by individuals from the ‘City of Joy’ – are organizing a “Store of Happiness” at Sonajhuri village in Sundarbans. The Sundarbans have always played a role of a shield for the rest of Bengal when it comes to cyclones, same was the case in Amphun too which lashed the state earlier this year, but this also takes a toll on the lives of the people from the region. With the ongoing pandemic and the lockdown that has been imposed because of it has impacted the lives of the people of Sundarbans in a major way. Through the “Store of Happiness” HHoK would like to bring in some joy in the lives of the 150+ people living in this village.

Many of us are privileged to be able to purchase what we want and when we want it. But same is not the case for the underprivileged sections of the society. Through HHoK’s “Store of Happiness” we would like to take all our rarely used and unused items, which are in perfectly good condition, and make them available for the people of Sundarbans. We started collecting items from the network of our patrons, contributors, friends and family, and have received items weighing over 500 kg. The collected items include clothing, footwear, stationary, books, utensils, gadgets and other household items. We will be setting up a mall-like store in the middle of Sundarbans, maintaining all social distancing norms and precautions, for the people to come and pick up an item they want from what is available.

As mentioned earlier, the people of Sundarbans face a lot of hardships over the years. The pandemic has just multiplied that, so HHoK decided to bring some happiness to their lives first. Moreover, HHoK has conducted some ration distribution drives in Sundarbans earlier and sponsored the education of two girls from the region. So, it is one of the first regions that HHoK has picked to spread some happiness. The social impact group also has plans to take the “Store of Happiness” to other regions soon.

Koushik Dey Founder and Secretary of Helping Hands of Kolkata said “Helping Hands of Kolkata was accepted on the basis of trust and commitment. Trust, which our donors have is a commitment to the beneficiaries that we will always stand by them. Our focus is primarily on education and hunger eradication projects which are long term in nature. We have several initiatives in the pipeline and we want to reach out to more and more geographies, bit for that we need support. Individuals as well as Institutions, both need to come forward and collaborate with us for us to make a meaningful impact”.

HHoK is a foundation incepted by a group of individuals from the ‘City of Joy’, who have embarked upon a mission to join their helping hands to bring joy to those who have been deprived of it. The Kolkata-based foundation has been involved in social impact projects since 2012, which embrace the old who has been forsaken by her family, the young whose dreams needs to be inoculated, the less-fortunate who also deserves economic independence and self-sustenance, the specially-abled who only needs unconditional love, the less-fortunate who requires food and medical care, and mother earth without whom our existence is implausible.

The Loox Experience Centre in Ahmedabad offers just that. Over the years, we have realized that there is a fair bit of educative convincing needed when it comes to furniture lighting concepts, here in India. Although the use of lights in furniture is gaining popularity gradually yet decisively, it is still a concept that doesn’t come organically in the process of designing furniture. We believe that with a state-of-the-art experience centre like ours, we will be able to realistically convey the many benefits (in form, function and design) that lighting offers to the constructive use of different furniture units. We plan to open 2 more experience centres like this one soon – one in Surat and one in Indore.

The Loox Experience centre at Ahmedabad, showcases all types of furniture and linear light applications including Horizontal and Vertical Wardrobe lights; drawer, cabinet and under-cabinet lights in kitchens, Pop-up boxes, TV back panel and showcase lighting in living rooms, bed-board, skirting and ceiling lighting in bedrooms; niche lighting and integrated sound & light vanity mirrors (the Aquasys range) in Bathrooms; together with a complete range of profile collections and other solutions. Customers can also enjoy a host of services at this experience centre like Light planning and designing, try-and-buy (Mock ups) services, free installation guidance or installation services at nominal charges.

Joint Commission International Accreditation is the Gold Standard in healthcare which demonstrates a commitment to provide world-class patient care and safety as also evidence-based clinical practice

Dr. Parag Rindani, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, South Bombay said, “It is a proud moment for Wockhardt Hospitals South Mumbai to be granted JCI accreditation for the second time. We are elated as the hospital has got the JCI accreditation after surveyors minutely evaluated the quality of our treatment, the training of our doctors, nurses and paramedical teams and high-end clinical patient care equipment. Stomach ulcer & piles cases increased due to wrong & self medication in Lockdown period

Mumbai- COVID is killed by heat! That is why our bodies create fever to fight it off, if you drink Turmeric powder (Haldi) regularly you will never be corona positive and many such remedies and social media post you must have heard during lockdown period but side effect of all wrong remedies are now troubling a lot of citizens in town. As per observation by Terna Speciality Hospital & Research centre from Navi Mumbai there is 20 to 30 % increases in cases of acidity, stomach ulcer and also constipation and piles due to various measures taken by people in lockdown period without consulting doctors like immunity boosters and other self medication. These medications actually don’t prevent corona as per medical study but it generates a lot of side effects on the human body.

Giving more information on this Dr. Nitin Tawte, Laparoscopic, Endoscopic and Piles Surgeon from Terna Speciality Hospital & Research Centre said, “The various medications taken by patients without medical supervision are having harmful effects on the body. I have seen increased cases of stomach ulcer and acidity in the lockdown period and even now. There are cases who present with bleeding through rectum because of irritation of inner skin and formation of piles and ulcer, they have burning in the stomach and in the chest which gets relieved with antacids. Many patients have required endoscopy who didn’t respond to medicines. Stomach ulcer and internal injury to stomach and intestines can only be diagnosed with upper or lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Many covid patients have stomach and intestinal manifestations like loose motions and pain abdomen. So it is very essential to report to your surgeon or gastroenterologist to get the condition evaluated and to differentiate between covid and non covid stomach problems.“

Corona is a disease which spreads by respiratory droplets and to those who come in close contact with an infected person. So speaking from my experience it is better not to take any medication without doctor’s supervision and follow a strict and healthy dietary schedule. Covid will not go away so fast. So everyone has to take precautions to protect himself and his family by social distancing, wearing proper masks and avoiding crowded places. Make sure your doctor knows about all the medicines you take. This includes those prescribed by other doctors, as well as vitamins, supplements, herbal remedies, and over-the-counter drugs you use every now and then, added by Dr. Nitin Tawte from Terna Speciality Hospital & Research Centre, Nerul Navi Mumbai.
