Central Railway and Yatri Strengthen Long-Term Collaboration to Deliver Real Time Information for Mumbai Commuters

Mumbai, Feb 16: Central Railway and Yatri have announced a major expansion of their collaboration, signalling a new chapter of data-driven convenience for Mumbai’s suburban rail network. By integrating live GPS data directly from the source, the partnership aims to eliminate the daily uncertainty of rail travel for millions of commuters and create a smooth, high-precision information system.

In a city where every minute counts, the collaboration tackles the main challenges of the “lifeline of Mumbai.” Beyond just schedules, the Yatri app now offers a clear view of the rail network, providing real-time train locations, delay alerts, and platform change notifications. Unlike crowd-sourced options, Yatri uses official data from GPS devices on Central Railway trains, ensuring unmatched accuracy and privacy.

“We are proud to deepen our relationship with Central Railway,” said Reeva Sakaria, Co-Founder of Yatri. “For millions of Mumbaikars, the commute is more than just a journey; it is a vital part of their day. This strengthened partnership lets us provide trusted, real-time updates directly from the train systems into the hands of users, replacing commute anxiety with confidence and predictability.”

This partnership underscores Yatri’s broader goal of becoming the go-to platform for all mobility-related needs. The Yatri app has successfully integrated a multimodal journey planner. Commuters can now plan trips by coordinating local trains with buses, the Mumbai Metro, and Monorail services, all through a single platform.

In addition to official data feeds, Yatri has introduced community-based features like User Incident Reporting and Yatri Chat. These tools enable commuters to share real time updates, such as sudden disruptions or station announcements, fostering a two way communication loop between railway authorities and the public.

As Central Railway embraces smarter systems, Yatri continues to support its journey towards a more connected and commuter-friendly network. By using GTFS data and GPS technology, both organisations are dedicated to creating a smarter, more reliable transit future for Mumbai.
