Anand Dhwani Music Trust successfully concludes the 6th edition of the Whitefield Music Festival

Whitefield Music Festival

Bengaluru, 8th December 2022: The Anand Dhwani Music Trust staged brilliant performances from World-renowned Indian Classical Music artists, across disciplines of Carnatic. Hindustani, Kathak, Tabla and Sitar will be performing at the Whitefield Music Festival 2022. The festival took place at the Inner Circle Ground, Whitefield.

The event saw a full-house audience with 1000+ attendees making it to the event. Fourteen (14) renowned maestros and artistes from across India performed, engaged and entertained the audience with their performances in five concerts which were scheduled over the two days. Amongst others, performances by world-renowned Carnatic Classical Vocalist Vidushi Bombay Jayashri (Padma Shri) and Tabla Maestro Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri (Padma Shri), one of the doyens of the Lucknow Gharana, took place.

“We organized the event this time in Whitefield, right in the midst of the IT hub, to make it more accessible for this populace to engage with traditional music and the artists. With the blessings of the public and the assistance of musicians, we experimented with novel combinations of art genres, such as the yet-unheard Ajayan and Nadaswaram duet. We believe this resonated very well with the audience” said Mr. Prabir Bhattacharya, Professional Sitar Artiste, President, Ananda Dhwani Music Trust, Bangalore.

In line with the objectives of Ananda Dhwani, Ishita Datta, Trustee & Secretary said, “The Indian Classical Music and Art forms have been losing their essence and there is a drift away from our heritage and culture. Through these events, we have focused on generating awareness about our classical art forms, and thereby making classical music and dance as much a part of our lifestyle, as other genres.”

The Ananda Dhwani Music Trust, Bangalore, a not-for-profit organization that seeks to promote, and thereby preserve Indian Classical Music and Dance. Started in 2011, the trust was formally registered in 2017 and since then there has been no looking back. The primary goal of the trust is to bring forth the joys of Indian classical music and dance, through world class performances, as well as create a platform to nurture upcoming talents in this spectrum.

Improving the Accuracy of Markerless Gait Analysis

Gait analysis systems measure certain metrics to give their results. These results then drive clinical treatment for gait correction. However, detailed gait analysis requires expensive equipment, and a lot of space, markers, time. Measurements from markerless, video-based gait analysis systems, on the other hand, are inaccurate. To improve upon existing systems, researchers have now combined RGB camera-based pose estimation and an inertial measurement unit sensor for gait analysis. This significantly reduces errors in the process.

Markerless Gait Analysis

In people with gait disabilities (i.e., a pattern of walking—or gait—that is not normal), assessing gait speed, stride length, and joint kinematics are essential. Measurement of gait parameters over a period of time is critical to determine treatment effects, predict fall risk in elderly individuals, and plan physiotherapy treatments. In this regard, optoelectronic marker-based three-dimensional motion capture (3DMC)—a gait analysis tool—can accurately measure gait metrics. However, economic and time constraints, coupled with requirements for a large space, extensive equipment, and technical expertise make 3DMC impractical in clinical settings. Alternate methods include inertial measurement unit (IMU)-based motion capture systems and RGB camera-based methods, which can measure gait without reflective markers when equipped with depth sensors. But these have their own drawbacks. IMU-based systems require many IMU sensors to be attached to human body segments, reducing their feasibility, and compared to optoelectronic 3DMC systems, RGB camera-based methods are less accurate in their measurement of kinematic parameters such as lower limb joint angles.
Hence, improved gait analysis systems are needed.

To this end, a team of researchers comprising Dr. Masataka Yamamoto, Mr. Yuto Ishige, and Professor Hiroshi Takemura from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science, and Professor Koji Shimatani from the Prefectural University of Hiroshima, Japan, have developed a simple and accurate sensor-fusion method for accurate gait analysis. “We combined information from a small IMU sensor attached to the shoe with estimated information on the bones and joints of the lower limb, obtained by capturing the gait from a single RGB camera,” explains Dr. Yamamoto, the lead author of the study. In a recent article published in Volume 12 of Scientific Reports on October 21, 2022, the researchers have detailed this method and the results they achieved with it.

The team used single RGB camera-based pose estimation by OpenPose (OP) and an IMU sensor on the foot to measure ankle joint kinematics under various gait conditions for sixteen healthy adult men between 21 and 23 years of age who did not have any limitation of physical activity. The participants’ gait parameters and lower limb joint angles during four gait conditions with varying gait speed and foot progression angles were noted using only OP as well combined measurements from OP and the IMUs. The latter was the team’s novel proposed method. Results from these techniques were compared to gait analysis using 3DMC, the current gold standard.

The proposed combination method could measure gait parameters and lower limb joint angles in the sagittal plane (which divides the body into right and left). Moreover, the mean absolute errors of peak ankle joint angles calculated by the combination method were significantly less compared to OP alone in all the four gait conditions. This is a significant development in gait analysis. “Our method has the potential to be used not in medicine and welfare, but also to predict the decline of gait function in healthcare, for training and skill evaluation in gyms and sports facilities, and accurate projection of human movements onto an avatar by integrating with virtual reality systems,” notes Dr. Yamamoto.

With further research, this method can be adapted to clinical settings and a larger demographic.

WinZO becomes India’s first interactive entertainment platform to be featured on mSeva

Mumbai,  December 2022: India’s largest interactive entertainment platform, WinZO, is selected to be featured on the government-owned and developed mobile app store mSeva. WinZO is the first gaming & interactive entertainment platform to be available on mSeva, India’s only indigenously built app store launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The partnership with mSeva is to further the government’s mission of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ as WinZO is available in 12 vernacular languages with over 100 million users from Tier 2 to Tier 5 parts of Bharat. 20% of users make their first-ever digital payment on WinZO.

Speaking about the partnership, Saumya Singh Rathore, Co-founder of WinZO said, “We are elated to partner with mSeva, an app store under the aegis of MeiTY, for the Indians by the Indians. This partnership is in sync with WinZO’s mission to build a world-class game tech product to serve every household in Bharat. mSeva will help us increase our reach multiple folds and give India the gaming experience it deserves.”

The move is also aimed at breaking Google’s monopoly over the selection and distribution of applications and high commission charges. Today, the Indian mobile market is heavily dominated by android with a 95% market share and this leaves developers with only Google Play Store as an option to publish and distribute their apps. It levies a commission in the range of 30% for in-app purchases. This negatively impacts the revenue of the developers and has long-term implications on IP/ content creation in the country because of the lack of viable revenue models.

mSeva, on other hand, does not have any distribution charge for not just delivering government and other public services but also for private players in health, education, agriculture, financial, online payments, social welfare, food, transport, and energy, among others. It has created the digital infrastructure to help businesses set up low-cost and quick-to-build apps that can be built using scalable technology. More than 1000 apps-based services including news, social media, payments, etc are available on mSeva app store. These include MyGov, Paytm, etc. WinZO is also among the early private adopters of the app store and plans to promote mSeva as a way to download the app among its potential users.

WinZO hosts over 100 games from third-party game developers from all across the country. It has a unique micro-transaction-based business model that lets game developers and studios generate 100X revenues through its 100 million user base clocking over 3.5 billion microtransactions per month. The social gaming pioneer also created employment opportunities for a diverse set of sections which includes over 500 translators who are mainly stay-at-home housewives, college students, retired government employees, and 75,000 regional micro-influencers who distribute the app in every corner of the country.

Year-End Real Estate Review and Outlook for 2023

Mr. Kaushal Agarwal – Chairman, The Guardians Real Estate Advisory

The surge in demand for housing in the Indian real estate sector despite the backdrop of uncertainty, looming global recession, and rising interest rates has given an indication that there is a genuine interest in housing and the momentum is expected to continue in 2023. The concept of owning a house, which gained importance in the post-COVID-19 scenario, has only seen a surge in the sale of houses across the country in 2022, especially in Mumbai, which registered record sales. We have every reason to believe that the performance of realty in the New Year is going to be rock steady and robust, especially with the government also stepping in and taking initiatives that support and enhance the growth in the sector.

Real estate developers are also expanding their operations in non-metro cities in 2023. The most recent example is the announcement of the Mumbai 3.0 project by the Government of Maharashtra (GoM). The government is committed to developing Neral-Karjat, Panvel, and the NAINA region in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as part of the project. In fact, numerous infrastructure projects in the city that were stuck due to the pandemic are expected to resume and pick up pace in the New Year. This will change the entire dynamics of the reality here.

2023 will also see the remote working model, which gave way to a hybrid work structure in 2022, change completely with the full-fledged return to the pre-pandemic structure of work from an office (WFO). Therefore, CRE (commercial real estate), which has been on the rise last year, is expected to dominate with Grade-A offices in huge demand as big companies are seeking to expand their operations in the coming days.

One of the biggest game-changers in 2022 has been that of real estate’s re-emergence as the first choice for long-term investment gains; this spells exciting times for investors in 2023 as well.
