TRL launches new road safety advisory service using world-leading iRAP model in collaboration with Gaist

8th November 2022 – TRL has launched a new service in collaboration with Gaist to deliver the iRAP (International Road Assessment Program)- Star Rating service for local highways authorities. Using video footage collected by Gaist for asset condition reporting, TRL will run it through the award-winning iRAP tool to generate fully costed road safety upgrade plans. The prime benefit of the new service is that councils can re-use previously captured footage of their highway network to generate targeted road safety improvement investment plans and save money in the process.

Increasingly, road authorities are looking to adopt a Safe Systems Approach when assessing their road networks. With the iRAP Star Rating service, road authorities can identify cost-effective packages of infrastructure improvements targeted at longer route sections than the traditional reactive crash management approach. It predicts the impact on KSI figures as a result of improving inherent road safety in the high-level schemes it produces. The model is also sensitive to speed and flows of road users across the road sections when calculating the risks.

The iRAP model is all about generating a fully costed road safety investment plan based on features present on the highway and the risks they pose to road users. “The key to improving road safety is not to act after an accident occurs, but rather to fix possible dangers before a collision ever happens,” explains Dr John Fletcher from TRL. “This pro-active approach has been working well for National Highways who began a Star Rating programme for the strategic network six years ago.

Thanks to the collaboration with Gaist, TRL is able to add a quality layer to the new service offering. “The Gaist system provides high resolution (4K) 360-degree imagery in combination with a high-definition (4K) carriageway camera,” continues Fletcher. “These cameras are optimised to supply high quality images of the roadscape at speeds up to 70mph and in a wide range of lighting conditions. All in all, the result is far greater resolution and fidelity than footage captured on an average dashcam system. Plus, Gaist cameras are recording all the time that their vehicles are on the road, so even if a council has not yet commissioned Gaist to capture footage of a particular route, it may already be ‘in the can’, which will save the council time, effort and money.”

By re-using the high-quality imagery and video footage collected by Gaist for other purposes, the overall cost of the iRAP modelling service is greatly reduced. The new service Is costed per mile, depending on how much visual imagery already exists or can be obtained from Gaist’s own stored footage of the route. TRL and Gaist will host a joint seminar for LCRIG on 28th October 2022 to educate local councils on the possibilities of this new iRAP- service. To sign up, visit: https://youtu.be/AhzM5lanboc

Money management should be a skill for life, especially for millennial women!

By Maitry Shah, Founder LakshMe and Wealth Manager, Prudent

Women today are breaking all stereotypes and have been on a roll to break the glass ceilings in their respective fields. From earning at par with their male counterparts or even more in many cases, women of today are ambitious and aim fully. Interestingly, women have always been the magic makers. Whether it is managing their professional life or household chores or anything, women are considered to be the best managers. They have the ability to nurture anything and everything.

However, looking at the way a country like India has progressed over the years, ‘financial planning’ for women is no longer a subject of restriction. Instead, it is considered to be of utmost importance. Well, if we go back to our childhood, we have seen our mothers and grandmothers secretly saving money until now when women are standing financially independent – in both cases, saving is still at the helm of women in our country. But, unfortunately, ‘money management’ or ‘financial planning’ is still at risk.

Two major global incidents can back the need and importance of the same:

  • Firstly, during monetisation, jokes about how the secretly saved money of women now will be all up, somewhere raised a lot of questions. But, it did highlight the fact that those savings could add a major part of revenue to a household in crisis. In ‘Jan Dhan’ accounts it is seen that the average balance maintained by women is 30% more compared to accounts owned by men.
  • Secondly, Pandemic. While a lot of people lost their jobs and many witnessed a major downfall in their businesses, many women came on the roll to start their own business to run the family. Many such house-wives had broken their secret savings to help support their family. In many cases they succeeded to combat the financial crisis during the severe lockdown phases.

Don’t you think if those savings would have been managed in a better way, they would have given much more fruitful outcomes? Yes, surely!

Interestingly, 24% of women – meet the minimum level of financial literacy as defined by the Reserve Bank of India. And, there is a dire need for more women to know their financial rights. She must save, invest and roll her money. Sadly, only 33 percent of Indian women take independent financial decisions compared to 64 percent of men. And, I strongly believe that this mark of 33 percent must be doubled. This is one of the core life skills that need to be inculcated early on in life. Financial literacy is essential as:

  • It provides knowledge and awareness about core money management, which helps you manage your day-to-day life in a financially efficient manner.
  • Provides you with the lifelong gauge to invest in a smart manner and achieve optimal returns at acceptable levels of risk.
  • Enables you to achieve financial stability for life.
  • Ensures that you avoid financial pitfalls such as debt trap, overspending, poor savings, etc.
  • Managing your finances is a transformative skill which can bring a wave of change over the next generations

But How to start with it?

With the advent of digitization the process of getting your hands on being financially literate is much easier and faster. Here are top 5 pillars to know:

Insurance:

Hedging your life and health risk is an important aspect of a stress-free life. The pandemic has reiterated the importance of having sufficient life and health insurance. Insurance is the weapon to combat unfavourable events in your life. It is an effective means to avoid financially stressful circumstances.

Investments:

Financial literacy starts with budgeting and saving, which eventually brings us to effectively invest the amount saved to achieve optimal returns. It is increasingly important to invest appropriately to ensure that you are able to realise your financial dreams without any stress. Financial literacy will help you invest prudently regardless of your financial status and age.

Estate Planning:

Estate planning and succession planning in India is still a factor that is known and discussed among the elite in India. Registering a will may not be a mandate and hence is not considered important. However, it is an added layer of security for your family. In the event of an unforeseen event, this would come very handy.

Tax Planning:

Just like small drops make the ocean. Tax planning may seem trivial. However, it can add to our long-term wealth creation agenda. You can save up to Rs. 45,000 with section 80C alone, a maximum of Rs. 1.5 lakh can be invested in tax-saving investments if you are in the highest tax bracket.

Retirement Planning:

Retirement planning is an extensive task of determining the quantum of funds required post-retirement to manage your household requirement and lifestyle. There is no one plan that fits all. You need to customise your retirement plan to suit your needs. It is imperative to note that the earlier you start, the higher will be the corpus you build. The magic of compounding tends to unfold over the long haul.

Studies show that women who are financially independent are ready to face challenges. Being a financially independent woman, myself I strongly stand by the fact that ‘financial independence is empowerment’. By default women have the ability to nurture anything and everything and hence, budgeting and saving comes naturally to them without excel sheets and formulas, they indeed are good at it. Therefore, I think hypothetically wouldn’t it be a game-changer if women across stratus and geographies get to learn it in a more significant way, inculcating these tips to make ‘money management’ a skill for life.

Women have always been the magic makers. Whether it is managing her professional life or household chores or anything, women are considered to be the best managers. They have the ability to nurture anything and everything.

About the author:

Maitry has completed her MBA in Finance from New York and started working in the sales team of Prudent Group. It was during her sales meet that she noticed women feeling uncomfortable when it came to money matters. They often took the back seat in the financial planning process and allowed their fathers and/or husbands to take important financial decisions without their involvement.

Being a financially independent woman herself, she believes that women should start integrating themselves in their family’s financial matters. Women should understand that financial literacy and acumen would make them more sensitive to the importance of money and how to make their money work for them. With over 4 years of experience in her kitty as a wealth manager, she started LakshMe – a platform to educate women and guide them to become ‘atmanirbhar’ in all aspects of their lives, especially financial.

Maitry Shah strongly believes that ‘Either make your money work for you or you will always have to work for your money’ and ‘Trust the timing of your life’ and has always tried to inculcate the same in her clients as well as team members. Being at the helm of the diversity of the industry, she loves to read and get updated about: Finance, Women in Finance, Empowerment, Law (women).

Under her leadership, LakshMe has successfully reached out to 10,000 + women and empowered 50% of them across geographies. She has also been pro-actively enabling the BFF (Buddy for Finance) programme amongst the women of our country across Indian territories and across economic stratas. This initiative enables women to get on a 30-min free consultation call with her, wherein she can address all the small and big queries towards financial stability. Interestingly, this initiative has been witnessing 10-15 calls per month. Maitry strongly believes in ‘impacting’ rather than converting. Therefore, her objective is to inculcate the habit of financial security amongst women at an early age.

Being an active speaker, she has been speaking about the same at various platforms via blogs and articles:

A highly motivated and passionate person with good communication skills, strong management acumen with ability to develop new business and enhance relationships, she strongly believes in giving back to society and doing her bit. Her venture LakshMe is a testament of her efforts towards the same. The non-profit organisation simply works with an objective of spreading financial literacy amongst women. Digital gaming marketplace Driffle raises $3.4 million seed capital from BEENEXT, Jafco Asia, Better Capital & others

Delaware (US)/Bengaluru, November 8, 2022: Driffle, the global digital gaming marketplace, today announced that it has raised $3.4 million in its seed round led by BEENEXT and other global investors, including JAFCO Asia, Taurus Ventures, Better Capital and White Venture Capital. Renowned angel investors Kunal Shah, Maninder Gulati, Amit Damani, Archana Priyadarshani, and Arun Venkatachalam, among others, also participated in this round.

With operations in India, the US, and the UK, Driffle is currently looking to add more people across product, engineering, marketing, and customer support in Gurgaon to cater to its growth. The team will invest the funds into hiring, strengthening its tech infrastructure, and product development, thereby accelerating its expansion to newer markets.

Driffle was founded in 2021 by a team of four passionate gamers – Chetan Bhardwaj, Gaurav Kumar Jha, Mayank Chawla, and Abhishek Kumar – whose aim was to create a seamless and safe gaming e-commerce experience after facing several challenges while purchasing games.

The global gaming market, expected to be worth $321 billion by 2026, witnesses a lack of quick, secure, and easy access to games, as well as the missing local payment options to purchase them. To fill this gap, Driffle creates a seamless experience for gamers by being the only digital gaming marketplace where games are delivered instantly in less than 10 seconds by providing an email address and fulfilling the payment process in local currencies via preferred payment methods (such as UPI in India). The platform sells games, digital gift cards, and gaming points for gamers.

Headquartered in Delaware and Bengaluru, Driffle currently is available in over 100 countries spanning South East Asia and Europe and accepts over 100 different currencies. This feature will continue to be an integral part of the platform as Driffle expands to new emerging markets.

Chetan Bhardwaj, Co-founder, and CEO, Driffle, said, “With the ever-evolving digital transformation, today’s customers expect relevant content in relation to what they’re doing anytime, anywhere, and in the format and on the device of their choice. While some people still enjoy the physical shopping experience, many have embraced the simplicity of digital marketplaces which are faster, more convenient, secure, and many a time, more affordable. This shopping model is especially popular among gamers who transitioned from physical to digital media and are enjoying the shopping experience at digital marketplaces like ours at Driffle.”

“Being a team of gaming enthusiasts, we thoroughly understand the existing gaps in such marketplaces. At Driffle, we enable instant delivery of our goods digitally, with simplified payment processes, overcoming the complications of payment fraud and cross-border distribution. We are thrilled to have reputed investors backing us as we expand our presence globally with the aim to make gaming more secure and convenient like never before,” Bhardwaj added.

“Being a startup built by avid gamers, the Driffle team has identified a significant whitespace within the gaming industry. With their deep passion for problem-solving, the team is addressing customer experience, for buying digital goods, which has not been worked upon so far. Driffle offers the industry-demanded revamp and better customer experience for buyers and sellers internationally through their truly global model of business. We are very excited to partner with Driffle and thrilled to witness the exciting products the company has in the pipeline, including their peer-to-peer in-game assets trading marketplace, which has a large market globally,” says Anirudh Garg, Investor, BEENEXT.

“Emerging trends such as the growth of gaming as a category, the rise of digital payments, and the consequent rise in online fraud create a potential white space for a digital goods marketplace like Driffle that has real-time fraud detection in its DNA. With Chetan’s track record and Driffle’s current foundation in place, the co-founders are well-equipped to democratize the gaming experience for many through their 10-second check-out option and local payment integrations.” said Supriya Singh, Director & Head of South Asia Investments at JAFCO Asia.”

The gaming world is also plagued by digital fraud, data breaches, leaked information, and other such issues. At a time when reports suggest the suspected digital fraud rate for gaming grew globally by 68.6% between 2019–2021, Driffle brings security to gaming transactions. It is built in such a manner that there is little to no scope for fraud and highly minimised delay in the gamers getting access to the games they want. With their fast-moving goods, Driffle has limited the risk of payment fraud in digital goods.

MX Player’s Dharavi Bank trailer highlights the clash of two titans

Mumbai, 8 November 2022: An unending stretch of narrow dirty lanes, open sewers, and cramped huts – a place that more than a million people call home, Dharavi is deep enough to shelter a sea of secrets. Opening a window to one such power-packed story from the gullies of this cluttered maze is MX Original Series – Dharavi Bank. Highlighting the clash of two worthy adversaries in a thrilling chase, all episodes of this gripping thriller will stream on MX Player, from 19th November onwards.

Suniel Shetty, who marks his digital debut with this show, will be seen as Thalaivan – the unattainable kingpin of Dharavi Bank. Determined to take this empire down is JCP Jayant Gavaskar, played by the versatile Vivek Anand Oberoi. The trailer gives us glimpses of a vast crime nexus operating within the walls of Dharavi and a thrilling chase to finding an unimaginable financial empire worth Rs 30,000 Crores hidden in those 30,000 lanes. For each of them, this is a fight for family, honor, power, and for duty – but who will have the last say?

Watch the high-octane action trailer here: https://bit.ly/DharaviBankOfficialTrailer

Speaking about essaying Thalaivan, Suniel Shetty said, “I believe respect must be earned and Thalaivan is the perfect embodiment of how this is done. He is powerful, and ruthless and is also the most giving to those he considers his family, the people of Dharavi. His mantra, ‘Mere family ko touch Nahi Karne kaa’ really resonates with me as a person as well. Through the making of the show, I realized how OTT allows you to really deep dive into your character and Thalaivan made for the perfect digital debut for me.”

Speaking about why he agreed to play this badass cop, Vivek Anand Oberoi added, “Dharavi Bank is a complex story that goes beyond just bringing down a crime empire. It shows how far one can go for family, for one’s duty, and tests one’s morality. Playing JCP Jayant Gavaskar needed me to find that right balance because he journeys from being the ideal cop to being manipulative, he patiently bides his time like a tiger on the hunt and believes that the end justifies the means – that stood out for me since the lines were so blurred and this character was so fascinatingly layered for this unconventional cop.”

Directed by Samit Kakkad and produced by Zee Studios, the series also features a stellar cast comprising Sonali Kulkarni, Luke Kenny, Freddy Daruwala, Shanthi Priya, Santosh Juvekar, Nagesh Bhosle, Siddharth Menon, Hitesh Bhojraj, Samikssha Bhatnagar, Rohit Pathak, Jaywant Wadkar, Chinmay Mandlekar, Bhavana Rao, Shruti Srivastava, Sandhya Shetty, Pavitra Sarkar and Vamsi Krishna in key roles.
