Dr Birbal Jha

Deity of Power: from commoners to politicians, everyone worships for strength and stamina

-Dr Birbal Jha, an author, columnist, social worker and the Managing Director of British Lingua

New Delhi:  Navaratri spanning over nine nights and ten days beginning from 26th September is drawing a close on 5th October this year. This annual expression of reverence and adoration for the deity of power holds a great message for one and all living in this universe. Durga, the Goddess of power in Hindu rituals is incarnated on earth to exorcise demons and eliminate the forces of evil often by which our society is plagued. Such elimination is a social need for a more significant cause.

Great is India where such a series of rituals and festivals following the Indian cultural sphere are held in succession around the year with the aim of advancing the cause of mankind and securing the world as a conducive place to live. Promotions of human values and obliteration of evils have been the central point of such a practice since time immemorial. This gives us a shape of the life cycle, following dharma, more particularly in Hinduism.

Our society always worships the powers that be, whether it is spiritual, political, social or practical life. We remain in awe for any reason whatsoever. We go to the places of worship and pray to God and deities to give us strength and stamina to fight against all the odds and come victorious. It is human nature to seek the power either to endure or rule or lord it over others.

It won’t be out of place to mention that very recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was seen offering prayers at the Mata temple seeking blessings, seemingly for the retention of power and for the furtherance of the project he has embarked on, and expressing his gratitude to the Goddess. This is in line with what dharma and Karma say.

With Narendra Modi coming to power in 2014, what is seen is that the government began to give due attention to the accessibility, upkeep and beautification of temples and places of worship. The Kashi corridor is a case in point. The inauguration of the Ujjain corridor is due this October. The Ram temple in Ayodhya will be open to the public for darshan so soon. The countrymen must take pride in treasuring what has been glorious and defining for our lifestyles. The central, as well as state governments, have taken the initiative in this regard.

Through the democratic process, Prime Minister Modi is empowered to uphold the virtues and weed out what is unwanted around. Good is that Modi is unlike his predecessor who was the power behind the throne. With his leadership personality, he has been able to separate sheep from goats. Under his prime ministerial stint, the surgical strike on the terror camps in Pakistan on the night of 28 and 29 September 2016 is a sign of what power is and what it is meant for in line with the very purpose of Goddess of Power is incarnated as the supreme being to drive away the evil forces. Today, Modi is deified as the protector of Indian spirits and values. However; this author is not the one who worships the ground Modi walks on. He, too, was recently seen offering arti to the goddess Durga.

Close to New Delhi with the corridors of power is situated Kurukshetra in Haryana where in the epoch of Dwapar, Lord Krishna through verses 7 and 8 of chapter 4 of the Gita, says that He comes to earth to destroy the wicked and establish religion wherever there is a loss of religious conviction and the spate of inequality in society. He is there to protect the good-doers and discard the evil-doers.

Thus, we tend to be the devotees of the deity of power that can protect us, our land, our integrity, and our life, keeping the disintegrating forces at bay. Central to the ethos of Indian ways of life is to worship all that ease our existence and make life worthy.

ACKO continues its hyperlocal approach to educate customers in Chennai, Ropes in Ravichandran Ashwin to drive the Brand Proposition of ‘Welcome Change’

CHENNAI: From chariots to cars, we have evolved in the way we travel but have we also changed the way we buy and use insurance? The answer is no, and to change this, ACKO, India’s first digital native insurer, has launched its latest campaign exclusively for the Chennai market, tying to its value proposition of ‘Welcome Change.’

The cost of Insurance can be a huge amount when buying a car. But customers rarely pay attention to the insurance as it gets bundled under other fees and charges and moreover, people are more interested in the new car than the insurance.

Unfortunately, this is where they miss out on huge savings. And this is what ACKO wanted to highlight through this campaign. In some models, the difference between the price from ACKO versus the insurance provided by the dealership can be as high as up to Rs.45,000/-. Just imagine what all customers can do with that savings.

The campaign takes an interesting narrative of comparing the past to the present and moves back and forth in time to enlighten the audience about the necessity of changing with changing times. ACKO has roped in the cricketing sensation Ravichandran Ashwini for the campaign to appeal to its Chennai audience.

Introducing millennials to capital markets and building a community of smart investors

Mr. Prabhakar Tiwari, CGO, Angel One Ltd

There is a significant gap in equity investments in the country compared to the total population. Currently nearly 7% of India’s population has access to equity markets, as against over 14% in China and 65% in USA. With approximately 65% of India’s population residing in non-urban areas, which is largely under penetrated, this forms a large addressable market. This gap can be reduced through active participation of people investing in different asset classes.

In the past few years, the Indian stock market has been buzzing with investments from a wide range of investors. One standout feature of a relatively rapid influx of investors in the stock market investments is the role played by millennials. In the calendar year 2020, Demat accounts in India increased by more than 10 million. Young investors primarily drive the rise in investor accounts.

The overall increased interest of millennials in equity investing can deepen India’s capital markets, as this new cohort diversifies their investment avenues from the conventional low risk, low return yielding assets. With advanced technologies, new-age stock broking companies are building a community of smart investors. Below are the critical factors which are aiding and accelerating community of smart investors:

Millennials are receptive to new-age technologies

In the fintech revolution era, asset management, investments, security analysis and portfolio diversification can be carried out with the help of advanced and sophisticated apps controlled from a smartphone. Due to the receptive nature of millennials towards latest technologies, they have found innovative ways to make their investments work and grow over time at a better rate as compared to their risk-free assets.

Millennials make investment decisions on credible information

Rather than relying on tips, millennials seek credibility of information before making an investment decision. With the availability of sophisticated tools (provided by new age brokerage houses) that offer easy access to fundamental and technical analysis, the overall process of investment decision-making has become faster and more reliable than ever.

The quality of investment services has improved significantly

The entire process of stock market investments has undergone a 360-degree change in the past decade. AI and Blockchain have opened a lot of avenues to improve trading eco-system such as faster settlements, real-time monitoring, improved insights, and enhanced security measures.  In addition, transparency of operations adopted by brokers have ensured that the best quality of services is offered to their clients. It builds greater level of trust with the new age investor.

Research and data related to markets, companies, and stocks is more accessible than ever

The overall availability and quality of information and research have increased at an unprecedented rate due to analytics. Millennials now have unrestricted access to primary and technical analysis and interpretation of such information. Furthermore, a number of third-party services like 1) smallcase: a pre-defined basket of stocks, 2) streak: simplified technical analysis, 3) sensibull: simplified option trading, are now integrated by brokerage houses and offered to the clients to improve their entire stock trading experience.

Overall environmental (economic) impact

The low-interest rate regime, coupled with positive sentiments with respect to the economy’s performance in the long run, is driving the highly-optimistic millennial investors. This class of investors believe in the fundamentals of the Indian economy and have a relatively long-term approach toward stock market investments. Even though there are uncertainties and volatility in the market, millennials can use a wide range of tech-enabled risk management tools to manage such risk.

Summing up

Millions of millennials are piling investments in Indian stock markets through different instruments. This class of investors is far more educated, and better understand the volatility in equity investing. They are eager to further enhance their intellect about the market and make the best use of available technologies for retrieving credible information to make an investment decision. This community of smart investors in the country is expected to positively consolidate the situation of retail investors and create an entire generation of new-age investors with no scepticism towards stock market investments.
