Discover Kayastha cuisine with a culinary workshop at École Ducasse India in collaboration with Chef Pin

13th September, 2022: India’s first École Ducasse campus is all set to host its culinary workshop on Kayastha cuisine at its world-class institute in Gurugram. The masterclass, presented by École Ducasse India in collaboration with Rocky Mohan’s Chef Pin, will be held on Saturday, 17th September at the ISH campus. The five-hour workshop is for all those keen to know about Kayastha communities through cuisine, and discover the authentic history of their food. The menu for the day has been specially curated by the founder of Chef Pin, food connoisseur and author, Mr. Rocky Mohan.

Known for its distinct cooking techniques like bhuna, dum and dhungar, Kayastha cuisine is an interesting blend of Mughlai, Afghani, and Turkish food with a subtle colonial influence. The workshop will be conducted by ISH alumnus and expert home chef, Shipra Mathur and features recipes to represent the true culture of her people. On the menu are an array of vegetarian and meat dishes including a rich keema aloo tikki, dal sultani and Nargisi kofta. The engaging workshop will be followed by an exquisite lunch of mutton yakhni pulao, paneer lajawab, Shahi malai murg, ajwain paratha and some sweet malpua.

While preparing their food, participants will learn to add whole spices and bring out subtle flavours in each dish. They will be taught to cook with cashews, almonds and pistachios and turn them into delicious pastes. Members will also learn to identify quality produce, work with fresh ingredients and prepare them in the best ways possible.

Similar to the programmes taught on campus, the workshop is designed around immersive learning experiences. Participants will gain insight into professional work settings while improving their cooking skills. The session will include all the ingredients, utensils, and equipment and shall be conducted at the campus’ professional training kitchens. At the end of the workshop, members shall be presented with a Certificate of Participation by École Ducasse India and Chef Pin. Along with this, they will take home a complimentary bag of delicious goodies, a branded apron and recipe notes from the chef.

Paytm Foundation and United Nations Environment Program join hands to establish Air Quality Action Forum

Mumbai, 13th September 2022: Paytm Foundation in partnership with United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)  set up the Air Quality Action Forum. The forum, through stakeholder consultations, will highlight the efforts undertaken to mitigate the impact of air pollution in India. 

The launch of the AQAF is a step to facilitate an inclusive approach to curbing air pollution in India. In a step toward the same, effective implementation along with collaboration between all the stakeholders, including the government is key to achieving the desired objectives under it. 

While addressing one of the consultation meetings, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder, and CEO, of Paytm, said, “We all must come together to mitigate the impact of air pollution in India. The Forum will work toward creating corporate champions. The air quality meters should become part of the Production Linked Incentive scheme.” 

“There is a need for the inclusion of a clean air initiative as part of “Swachh Bharat Mission” with a ranking of states and cities on the basis of air pollution levels,” he added. 

In line with the objectives of the AQAF, consultation meetings were organized across all six stakeholders, aimed to identify everyone’s views on various issues concerning air pollution in India, and the possible solutions that could lead to its reduction. 

Some of the solutions that came out of the consultation meetings are:

1)   Need to create an ecosystem for innovative solutions and products

2)   Promoting pilot studies/ projects to understand the efficacy and scalability of local solutions

3) Integration of health aspects in the current framework for air quality management and standardization of air quality measurement parameters

The feedback and suggestions from these discussions have provided critical inputs to draft a report on understanding the challenges, gaps, needs, and synergizing solutions. The report will be released at the Forum Convention soon. The Centre of Excellence for Research in Climate Change, (CERCA) at IIT-D is being onboarded as an implementing partner. Much other public and private sector organizations and well-known academic institutions like DTU participated and contributed to the success of the consultation meetings.

During the consultations, Shri. Arvind Nautiyal, Member Secretary, Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas, Mr. Sudheer Chintalapati, Joint Director, MoEFCC, and Dr. Prashant Gargava, Member Secretary, CPCB also provided useful insights on the initiatives that the government is undertaking for air pollution mitigation.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma has been named as the UN’s environment patron for clean air. This initiative is part of Paytm’s commitment to advocating UN Environment’s global BreatheLife campaign by generating awareness about pressing social and environmental issues and alleviating them through collaborative partnerships.

Visteon gives back by distributing prosthesis, calipers, wheelchairs, walkers, tricycles and hearing aids to local community members13 September 2022, India: In support of a longstanding commitment to uplift the communities in India, Visteon Corporation, a global technology company serving the mobility industry, has provided supplies to support the mobility needs of over 400 people across 10 districts in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The company, along with its NGO partners, organized donation camps in Kolar, Vijayanagara, Bagalkot, Belgaum, Gadag, Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Ratnagiri. The donations included prostheses, calipers, wheelchairs, walkers, tricycles, and hearing aids.

The employees in India also stepped in to support this initiative and volunteered their time and efforts by actively participating in these camps. Along with the NGOs, schools, and Panchayats, they screened the individuals, assessed their needs, measured and estimated the size of the required artificial limbs, and worked with the vendor to fabricate the same. Beneficiaries were also trained in handling the prosthesis, thus ensuring proper rehabilitation.

Commenting on the initiative, Aashish Bhatia, Vice President and General Manager, Visteon, said: “I’m proud of our CSR team. In the future, we hope to have a broader reach across the nation. Tips to Stay Healthy with Menopause

Menopause affects every woman differently. For many, this transition is marked by symptoms like irregular periods, hot flashes, sweating, sleep disturbances, mood swings, irritability, joint and back pain and more.

“Indian women typically go through menopause early, at the average age of 46.2 years, five years earlier than in western nations.[i] Hormonal changes begin even earlier during perimenopause or the time around menopause, which lasts four years or even up to a decade.[ii] During this period, 80% of women are affected by menopausal symptoms. Maintain a balanced diet 

Good nutrition is a game changer for managing menopause symptoms from hot flashes to bloating. Foods to include and to avoid in your diet are:

Include 

Fruits and vegetables: These are full of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants your body needs. You cannot go wrong with seasonal vegetables and fresh fruits.
Fibre-rich foods and foods rich in calcium & vitamin D: High-fibre foods like leafy greens, kidney beans, and whole grains can also support better health. Dairy products and foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids are good sources of nutrition.

Avoid

Fatty meats & processed foods: Fast or fried foods, processed snacks and meats are high in sodium, making you feel bloated. These foods can also affect cholesterol levels or increase your risk of heart disease. Also, spicy food may trigger symptoms like hot flashes.

Yoga: Yoga poses – from restorative and supportive to power yoga – are also a good source of targeted symptom relief, helping relax the body. Paired with meditation or breathing exercises, these can also prompt relaxation and mindfulness.

Mental Health

Hormonal changes during perimenopause or menopause can impact emotional and mental health. Women going through this phase may experience symptoms such as lack of sleep, anxiety, lack of motivation, fatigue stress or depression. Most of the symptoms can be managed through lifestyle changes. BENGALURU, India – September 13, 2022 – Samsung is celebrating the fourth anniversary of its iconic experience center, Samsung Opera House, which has become a hub of technology, art, and culture since it opened in 2018.                                                               
Over its anniversary weekend, Samsung Opera House organized a captivating K-fiesta, a Korean-pop-themed cultural and music festival where hundreds of young K-pop fans from across schools and colleges in Bengaluru, including Samsung Members, grooved to K-pop songs by Indian K-pop bands. The young audience enjoyed K-pop concert screenings, movie screenings, dance performances, a cosplay competition, and an exquisite Korean cuisine workshop.

Bengaluru, September 13, 2022: Silver Oaks International School successfully hosted a pop-up for the needless through the global platform ‘The Street Store’. It saw participation from families of their students who came forward to donate used/ unused articles which was showcased in a store-format pop-up held yesterday. The event was made accessible to all those in need from nearby areas of Sarjapura.

This campaign was initiated on the occasion of Teacher’s Day with the aim to bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots.

At Silver Oaks, their mission is to build students’ values along with imparting knowledge. This activity aligns with its mission and helps to achieve the larger goal i.e. Character before Competence. When children are taught the ‘art of giving’ from a young age, it imbibes within them and becomes a natural practice.

Speaking on the event, Ms. Sailaja Vittaldev, Principal of Silver Oaks Bengaluru said “Street Store is our initiative to respect others’ needs and share materialistic things with those who truly require them.
