Nominations Open: NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards 2022

01 July 2022: National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), India’s leading disability rights-based advocacy organization is proud to announce the 13th edition of NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards 2022 to recognize the champions of Accessibility and Universal Design for people with disabilities and their contributions towards the cause.

NCPEDP has long believed that the foundation of inclusion is accessibility. To this effect, the awards were launched in 2010 in collaboration with Mphasis to recognize the benchmark for best practices for accessibility for all, promoting local solutions with a focus on affordability, accessibility, and scale. Every year, this distinguished honour is given to individuals and organizations who are making every effort to empower people with disabilities by building accessibility solutions, or universal design in the areas of education, work, infrastructure, etc.

NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards 2022

Arman Ali, Executive Director, NCPEDP says “Accessibility means that a person with a disability receives the same information, is able to use the same products and services, engages in the same interactions in an equally effective and integrated manner as an individual without a disability does, but the inherently inaccessible nature of our systems affects the accessibility, rendering it inaccessible for most persons with disabilities.

The first-ever Global Report on Assistive Technology released by WHO and UNICEF notes that globally, over 2.5 billion people require assistive devices but over a billion of them lack the most basic facilities. India holds the potential to lead the assistive technology market by adopting inclusive designs in all products and services. We must incorporate the principles of universal design within our systems. There is a need to overhaul all existing products and services and redesign them in alignment with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016. The need for assistive technologies that enable and promote participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities is urgent. For years, these awards have been acknowledging a few initiatives that are able to follow this principle of universal design – in both theory and practice and are able to bring a meaningful and empowering change in the lives of people with disabilities.”

“Through our partnership with NCPEDP, we aim to recognize and support solutions that enable an ecosystem of accessibility for all, at an affordable and scalable pace. Universal Designs (UD) develops custom designs that work efficiently and empower a diverse group of people irrespective of their age, ability, or gender. It creates a space that is accessible to everyone and can be measured and applied to all design domains across industries. It is therefore extremely important for UD to be part of our laws and regulations to mandate design solutions that everyone can use equally. The Universal Design Awards ensure that dedicated volunteers get their due recognition which plays a critical role in sensitizing the community and inspiring others to join the cause,” said Srikanth Karra, CHRO, Mphasis.

Apex Laboratories launches advanced Supra Bioavailable Itraconazole 65 and 130 mg capsules

New Delhi:  July 1, 2022: Apex Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., one of India’s leading pharmaceutical companies based in Chennai has launched an advanced form of Itraconazole Capsules Supra Bioavailable 65 and 130 mg, a potent therapeutic choice to effectively control fungal infections. Supra Bioavailable Itraconazole capsules deliver a higher percentage (90%) of active medicine to the biological system, at a lesser dose. This advanced preparation also ensures lesser inter-individual variability which might translate into enhanced efficacy in the management of fungal infections.

Fungal infections are causing a huge burden in our healthcare ecosystem because of their worldwide distribution and person-to-person transmission. Fungal infections are broadly classified as superficial, deep and systemic (circulate throughout the body). Their effects range from superficial infections of the skin, hair and nails to scattered infections of the brain, heart, liver, lungs, spleen and kidneys.

Superficial mycoses of skin, nails and hair are among the common fungal infections and World Health Organization (WHO) reported their prevalence rate as 25% and it varies for occupational groups, gender and age groups.

Itraconazole capsule has become an oral treatment of choice for superficial fungal diseases. Itraconazole is widely considered even for the treatment of conditions such as Blastomycosis, Histoplasmosis & Aspergillosis.

“Although Itraconazole is an effective agent for fungal infection, studies state that, it has limitations such as poor absorption and variability in its blood concentrations, and for any medicine to produce a desired clinical effect, its absorption should be optimal with minimal inter-individual variability,” said Mr. Vishagan, Director, Apex Laboratories Pvt. Ltd.

Supra Bioavailable Itraconazole 65 & 130 mg capsules

The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has approved the SUBA (Super Bio-Available) preparation of oral Itraconazole 65 mg and dosing regimen of 130 to 260 mg. In India, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) also approved the similar formulation of Supra Bioavailable oral Itraconazole 65 & 130 mg capsules for the treatment of conditions like Blastomycosis, Histoplasmosis & Aspergillosis.

Supra Bioavailable Itraconazole 65 mg & 130 mg capsules is prepared by Top spray granulation technology which is used to improve the dissolution rate of Itraconazole. It contains a solid dispersion of Itraconazole in a uniform non-pellet formulation. This novel technology enhances the bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs. The Technology utilizes a solid dispersion of drug in a polymer to improve the absorption in the gastrointestinal tract to achieve “super bioavailability” compared to conventional preparations.

Studies also suggests that, Supra Bioavailable Itraconazole can be taken with or without food and can be co-administered with medicines that lowers stomach acidity without causing any reduction in the absorption of Itraconazole.

Manipal Hospitals’ latest campaign showcases the importance of trust in their profession

Mumbai/Bangalore, 1st July, 2022: This Doctor’s Day, Manipal Hospitals, through its latest campaign, highlights the real reasons behind doctors doing what they do best — care for us, even though they are judged for their decisions. The campaign is based on a recent survey which highlighted that more than 90% of Indians don’t trust the healthcare system. The film showcases what a doctor has to go through, to help the patients, while fighting the doubts of the patients and their family members around the treatment.

This campaign, which has been conceptualised and executed by the creative agency, Social Panga, is an extension of last year’s campaign — Happy Doctor’s Day, REALLY?; which highlighted violence faced by Indian doctors and questioned the sentiments of the public. This year, the slight change in the narrative highlights the patients’ trust issues, changing the perspective to — Happy Doctor’s Day. REALLY!; no more questioning, rather acknowledging the sentiments of the larger masses.

Mr. Karthik Rajagopal, Chief Operating Officer, Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., says, “Nowadays, people shower us with their frustration more than praise and gratitude if we extend their time in the hospital by a few hours or give them a long list of tests and medicines. They associate it all with having to shell out extra money instead of considering that it is advised out of care and concern. It is time a doctor’s profession was shown due trust for what it is known to do best — save lives. The Social Panga team has done a wonderful job in making it easier for us to send this message across via the Doctor’s Day film.”

Gaurav Arora, Co-Founder of Social Panga, sheds light on the campaign saying, “For Manipal Hospitals, we believe that deep-rooted insights work best to bring out the most powerful campaign while ensuring it is relatable for the audience. While doctors are respected for what they do, we expect this campaign to serve as a wake-up call for those who do not give the profession the trust it deserves.”
