SCORPIONS “Rock Believer”

Possibly the most decisive moment in the genesis of SCORPIONS’ brand-new, breath-taking album Rock Believer was captured in a song by Klaus Meine, who penned the album’s lyrics: “Gas In The Tank”. Says Meine: “Before we started working on the new album, we asked ourselves: Is there still enough gas in the tank?”. Does a band whose musical career will span fifty years from the release of their first phenomenal album success Lonesome Crow in February 1972 to the arrival of Rock Believer in February 2022 still have the bite, the toughness, the brute force that it takes to create and record one or two dozen brand-new tracks? Aren’t their 18 studio albums to date, their platinum and double-platinum awards garnered around the globe enough for these relentless musicians? Is there still enough gas in the tank to keep going? One of the quintet’s songs provides the answer to these questions: “Let’s play it louder play it hard, Laid back and a little dark, Give me a dirty riff my friend, There’s gotta be more gas in the tank.”

The result consists of 16 awesome tracks, each one of them a lyrical short story, minimal poems in prose, presented in a lavish sonic guise, featuring the SCORPIONS’ characteristic trademarks from the early 1980s, yet produced from a 2020s perspective. The wealth of inspiration from their longstanding career is an overflowing treasure chest that forges an arc between yesterday and tomorrow. Klaus Meine’s comment on “Roots In My Boots” in fact applies to the whole album: “The new material sees us return to our roots. We simply wanted to reactivate the original SCORPIONS DNA – great riffs, strong melodies. We tried to transport that live feel to the studio with all five of us playing in one room again at last. Having Mikkey Dee in the band is like a shot of fresh energy and real fun.”

The good found in the bad, to borrow from the great philosopher and Stanford professor Paul Watzlawick, was the basis of this extraordinary album. The Covid pandemic put the brakes on public life, travel and work. “We had already started to talk about a new album back in 2018,” recalls Rudolf Schenker. A year after that, Klaus Meine had completed the first lyrics. And then Covid arrived. Touring Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, the band just about managed to get back to Europe in time, and all of a sudden nothing was the same. Concerts were cancelled, arenas closed down. “In a way,” says Matthias Jabs, “the situation was a blessing in disguise for us.” The band had already hired a studio in Los Angeles, but their plans were thwarted by fate. Instead, the musicians found themselves stuck at home, three of them only a stone’s throw away from the legendary Peppermint Park Studios in Hanover, and as soon as travel restrictions were relaxed, Pawel Maciwoda and Mikkey Dee were able to join them from Poland and Sweden respectively, “and everything suddenly felt like it had back in the 1980s, when the five of us rocked together, hanging out at the corner pub in the evenings and talking about our music,” Matthias Jabs reminisces.

The basic elements of rock music have always been the characteristic pacemakers of an ever-evolving society. As singer Klaus Meine sings in the title track “Rock Believer”: “Scream for me screamer, I’m a rock believer like you just like you, Come on scream for me screamer, I’m a rock believer like you just like you.” Meine: “Over the years, we’ve heard people say lots of times that rock is dead. But there are still millions of rock believers out there all over the world to prove them wrong. Our fans are the best in the world … We’ll see you someday somewhere out there, because we’re Rock Believers just like you.”

Those basic elements of our society that make up rock music aren’t always light and weightless as they swarm through space and time. On the contrary: Those atoms push forward relentlessly, often coming across like ancient Norse warriors, bringing chaos and passion, earthy, sweaty, all stomping machines and crude rhythms. As the lead single, “Peacemaker”, goes: “The evil monster is still alive, Even after all this time, It’s been written in the stars, Forever love stop the war. Peacemaker peacemaker, Bury the undertaker. “I was just playing around with those words. Peacemaker bury the undertaker … what’s the meaning behind it? At a time when so many people have died and are still dying of Covid, from devastating wars and other senseless crimes, it makes you feel like the undertaker must be working overtime. In a peaceful world after the pandemic, it will be time for the peacemaker to rule … that’s an image that really appeals to me,” says Klaus Meine.

Rock music, as perceived, written, composed and performed by the Scorpions, can be a chronicle of current events. A complete oeuvre that captures not only the socio-political characteristics of our times, but sometimes even precedes them. Attitude is the appropriate term, attitude as a stereotype of rock culture. Few other rock bands with German roots can tell us as much from their own experience about the world and its dark sides as the SCORPIONS can. There’s no continent they haven’t toured, very few countries around the globe where they haven’t performed. As they say on “When Tomorrow Comes”: “Good morning world how do you feel, You look so sad, The clock is ticking and precious time will fade away.” Klaus Meine wrote the lyrics for that song during the pandemic: “It’s addressed towards the young generation, who will soon take over the responsibility for our planet.”

The genesis of Rock Believer was spawned by an experiment: “For the first time, I’d received lyrics from Klaus to compose music to them,” remembers Rudolf Schenker. “It had always been the other way round, first the music, then the lyrics.” Rudolf Schenker sat alone in his car, listening to the lyrics one by one as he drove through the streets. “I immediately had ideas for the compositions, the words really started to sparkle.” The result is an album which impresses with its frequently harsh, sinister sound. “We basically agreed to do just a few ballads, such as “When You Know (Where You Come From),” says lead guitarist Matthias Jabs, who wrote “Hot And Cold” and “Crossing Borders”. The album was produced by the band themselves with the support of Hans-Martin Buff. All in all, the sessions at the Peppermint took over a year.

SCORPIONS are one of the world’s most important rock bands of recent decades, having sold more than 120 million records to date, played over 5,000 concerts and created a timeless classic in their legendary single “Wind Of Change”, which dominated the international charts and still is the best-selling single worldwide by a German act. Countless awards, a star on the Hollywood Rock Walk of Fame and more hits such as “Rock You Like A Hurricane”, “Still Loving You”, among many others, followed. Their unbroken success impressively underlines the influence that SCORPIONS continue to have on the rock music scene. Their latest album Rock Believer will be out on Universal’s Vertigo imprint on 25 February 2022.

Rock Believer, the credo of their new album, will also be the moniker of their upcoming tour. In March and April 2022, the band are set to perform at the Planet Hollywood Resorts & Casino in Las Vegas as part of their residency, followed by a European tour scheduled to kick off with a number of shows in Germany in June 2022, with more concerts around the world in the pipeline.

Rock Believer is perhaps the group’s most characteristic album to date – a recording by a band at the pinnacle of their musical art.

Amway Intensifies Its Fight Against Childhood Malnutrition In India

New Delhi, February 28, 2022: Around the world, Amway has been taking on the issue of malnutrition, helping thousands of children live better, healthier lives. In India, Amway is fighting childhood malnutrition through its globally renowned nutrition program – Power of 5, helping children under the age of six to lead a healthy life. Stepping up its efforts in nutrition education and intervention, the company has announced the launch of an innovative micronutrient supplement – Nutrilite Little Bits™ –providing daily essential vitamins and minerals to help manage micronutrient deficiency such as anemia.

Over the years, malnutrition has become a silent pandemic across geographies, which is now accelerated by the current health scenario. Talking about Amway’s efforts infighting malnutrition, especially among smallchildren, Amway India CEO, Anshu Budhraja, said, “We believe in going beyond thetraditional ways of doing business. In line with this thought and aligning to the Government of India’s National Nutrition Mission, we initiated a nutrition education program, Power of 5 in 2018that has so far benefitted over 130000 underprivileged people including 36000 children in India. Further, leveraging our expertise in the nutrition and wellness space, we have combined our products, resources, and operations with our values, to develop Nutrilite Little Bits. I am delighted to announce that we will be using Little Bits in our ever-expanding Power of 5 program to help children live better, healthier, and more empowered lives. I firmly believe the goal of economic development cannot be met without addressing social issues such as childhood malnutrition. While the problem requires a multi-faceted approach, we are hopeful that our ongoing nutrition program alongside our strategic intervention with Nutrilite Little Bits will make a significant positive impact. We are focused on channeling our efforts to support and help as many children as we can. Besides increasing our reach of the program to benefit 40000 children, we aim to distribute Little Bits among10000 children under professional supervision.”

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 5.2 million children under age 5 die each year from preventable causes, and malnutrition is the underlying cause of 45 percent of these deaths globally (WHO) and 68% in India (Lancet). Deprivation of adequate nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life often leads to stunted growth, poor cognitive development, and low immunity to disease. To address nutrition inequities in children, Amway launched the Power of 5 campaign in India in 2018 and has benefitted over 25,000 children under-five and over 90,000 mothers and caregivers. Aligned with the Government of India’s National Nutrition Mission, the program offers holistic solutions to create awareness and implement educational interventions at the grassroots level. Currently, the second phase of the project is operational with the SRF Foundation, covering 40 villages in Nuh district, Haryana, benefiting 26000 children. The nutrition program – Power of 5 has so far benefitted over 130000 people, including 36000 children in India.

Further, extending its expertise in nutrition to support the numerous burdens of malnutrition, Amway developed Nutrilite Little Bits aligned with WHO guidelines. This micronutrient supplement is loaded with 16 essential vitamins and minerals, customized as per the RDA 2010 guidelines to suit the Indian market targeting malnourished children between the age of 3 – 6 years. When taken daily, Little Bits can help support a child’s health by providing nutrients required for proper growth and development. Amway plans to further expand the program across regions in the years to come. Under the project, Nutrilite Little Bits will be distributed free of cost to the malnourished children through partner NGOs in the existing project locations. This year, Amway India plans to distribute Nutrilite Little Bits to nearly 10000 children for a minimum period of 6 months to 1 year.

Ridge Valley School Students Showcase Brilliant Scientific Innovations

Gurugram, February 27, 2022: Ridge Valley School announced today that two of its students, Ritika Chopra a ninth-grader, and Rishaan Sahgal, a seventh-grader, have been applauded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India for creating innovative scientific models. For their outstanding inventions, the two bright students have been felicitated with the prestigious INSPIRE-MANAK Awards– an initiative designed to motivate young people to pursue science creatively. A cash prize has been awarded to the students so that they can implement their scientific ideas.

While Ritika has invented an Electrolyte Detecting Transdermal (EDT) patch to keep users informed of the electrolyte concentration in their body at all times, Rishaan has developed an inventive helmet with a comfort liner called TURMET for designed for turban-clad Sikhs riding two-wheelers.

Ritika Chopra

In honour of National Science Day, Ridge Valley School will host a Mini Science Exhibition at their school premises. During the event, Ritika will present her health & fitness app through an online presentation in which she will explain how the app will be useful for users wearing the patch. On the other hand, Rishaan will show a small prototype of TURMET that he has created.

Describing her innovative idea about the EDT patch, Ritika explained, “Electrolytes are essential minerals like sodium, potassium, calcium which besides maintaining muscle and nerve functions, also assist in maintaining acid-base and water balance in the human body. The presence of a low electrolyte level in our body can lead to a variety of serious diseases, so we should always track their concentration in order to ensure a healthy lifestyle. The EDR patch lets us do just that.”

While presenting the idea of TURMET, Rishaan pointed out, “As per Section 129 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, Sikh women and men wearing turbans on the highway are not required to wear protective headgear. Thus, riding on the highways becomes quite risky for them. Because I was concerned for their safety, I developed a helmet that can offer protection to the Sikh community. The TURMET’s rigid outer shell is made entirely out of Polycarbonate Plastic. An impact-absorbing liner made of expanded polystyrene is used to absorb impact and prevent sharp objects from breaking the helmet and damaging the skull.” He added, “I am excited and looking forward to presenting the TURMET demo at our school’s Mini Science Exhibition”

Ms. Nidhi Tewari, Principal, Ridge Valley School, expressed her delight at this tremendous effort by her students, saying, “We are exceedingly proud of these prodigies. We are grateful to the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India for recognizing their efforts and I thank our teachers for guiding them in the right direction.”

ABP Network & Ozone Locks set to launch a voting anthem as poll battle heats up

‘Ab Chalegi finger key’ campaign aims to inspire people to vote responsibly this election

Noida, 26th February 2022: In the midst of the much-anticipated assembly elections in Punjab & UP, ABP Network, is set to unleash an intriguing anthem called “Ab Chalegi Finger Key,” in partnership with its sponsor Ozone Locks. The aim behind the anthem’s launch is to remind people that by pressing a button on a voting machine and by casting a vote, they can make a meaningful impact.

The anthem is penned by International Indian Film Academy Award winner for best lyrics, Mr. Manoj Muntashir, sung by India Idol finalist Ashish Kulkarni, directed by the famous duo Anshith & Kallol and produced by Manoj Muntashir Entertainment. ABP Network wishes to emphasise through this song that it is a common misconception that powerful people always get their way. The ultimate weapon, however, is a common man’s finger. It is through the use of the finger that a common man can have a say in how his government makes decisions. As a responsible news organisation, we recognise the power that resides in the hands and fingers of ordinary people, and we wish to reiterate the same.

The Anthem is called “Ab Chalegi Finger Key,” which is the slogan of the anthem’s sponsor, Ozone Locks. The development and airing of this anthem is supported by Ozone Locks. The anthem will also emphasise that, just as a finger can help safeguard a democracy. When it comes to voting, a single finger has the power to lock or unlock your wealth and fate.

Commenting on the launch of the anthem, Abhishek Aggarwal, President- Strategic Operations, Ozone Overseas, said: “‘Ab chalegi finger key’ is not just a brand tagline, but a philosophy which highlights the power given to us by the constitution to restore faith in democracy in every election. Our association with ABP Network was to showcase that when we use a finger to exercise our right & protect democracy, the same finger has the power to protect our homes, too. This brilliant connection between the fingerprint locks & safes and electronic voting gave birth to the idea of ‘Ab Chalegi finger key’ campaign.

In continuation with our association with ABP Network, we are proud to partner with renowned poet & lyricist Manoj Muntashir, to evoke the emotion and bring in the sense of responsibility of protecting democracy through an anthem.”

Vaishali’s Milan Fashion Week show also marks the global launch of Vaishali S.’ prêt-à-porter line and with this launch, the designer continues to position Indian hand weaves at the top of international luxury, through unique global silhouettes.

In addition to the models who walked the ramp for the event, global fashion icon who is also known as the ‘Face of Indian Fashion’, Masoom Minawala, graced the runway as the showstopper for Vaishali S. An ardent admirer of Indian craftsmanship and handlooms, Masoom is the first Indian personality ever, to walk the ramp at Milan Fashion Week to support Vaishali and her ethereal prêt-a-porter collection.

Speaking about showcasing at Milan Fashion Week, designer Vaishali S. said, “showing in Milan takes a designer’s journey to another level of maturity and self-awareness. Not only do you need to be extremely creative, but it is also essential to strike a perfect balance between paying attention to the final customer’s needs and being able to express your creativity through a language that is well understood by international buyers.”

Mr. Alessandro Giuliano, Director and Advisor to Vaishali S., added “it was a special evening for the brand and me. When I met Vaishali two years ago I immediately realised her immense talent and sincerity. Showcasing in Milan, my native city and the world’s fashion Capital was truly very special. 250+ people from media and lots of long-time friends, including the who’s-who of Milan, were treated to this special fashion show with glasses of Prosecco, in a stunning location of our friends, EDRA and Simone Vago, with models from Milan society and make-up from Astra.”

Vaishali S. with Masoom Minawala

The show took place at Milan’s iconic and historic Palazzo Durini, which was commissioned in 1645 and is one of the greatest examples of seventeenth-century architecture in the city. The breathtaking location is filled with history and features several well-preserved frescos from past centuries. The palace is now the showroom of acclaimed Italian furniture brand, Edra, whose stunning pieces adorn the noteworthy interiors of the palace and acted as the perfect backdrop to Vaishali’s showcase. Simone Vago – nephew of vanguard artist Valentino Vago – and Paola Amerio hosted the show attendees and guided them through this incubator of emotions, thanks to multigenerational experience in crafting the best mansions across the globe with a high-end network of luxury workshops specialised in liveable art. The sprawling space at the palace where the show took place featured four huge rooms and glamorously accommodated the 250+ guests – which included some of Milan’s top journalists and VIPs – that attended the show, bearing COVID protocols and social distancing in mind.

Vaishali’s new collection, named Srauta – a word taken from ancient Vedic texts and meaning ‘sacrifice’ in Sanskrit – is centred around the theme of sacrifice. It represents the flow of energy that connects everything in nature and how it sacrifices itself in one form to come to life into another form in a seamless flow that is the secret of life. A demonstration of this flow is the metamorphosis that a strand of hair or fur from an animal goes through in its journey – the hair becomes part of a thread, which gives life to a fabric, which is finally transformed apparel – to ultimately being a part of a garment in Vaishali’s Srauta collection. The designer has studied this flow of energy carefully to ensure that the flow is as seamless and sustainable as possible, ensuring the message of love is carried forward.

The collection of around 40 garments featured not only embroideries but full-fledged haute couture design and fabrics in a fresh prêt avatar, that shone the spotlight on hand-woven Indian textiles. As with all Vaishali’s collections, the Srauta collection too emphasises excellence in workmanship, with sustainability, zero waste and has circularity at its core. To ensure continued support and positive social impact on craft clusters, Vaishali has employed weaves used in the past in this collection as well.

With the aim of pushing the boundaries of her commitment to sustainability, Vaishali has used blockchain technology for this collection, which will guarantee the technical traceability of garments’ history, thereby ensuring not only that sustainability is the focus throughout all processes, but also guaranteeing that clients can trace the journey of the hair fibres of the goat – in case of Pashmina – to the final garment, with a quick scan of a QR code. The implementation of this technology removes all possibility of faking or altering the journey of the fibre, as each minute detail – down to the area in which the animals grazed – is thoroughly documented through photographs and certificates of authenticity, which are made available to the customer.

Additionally, at each stage of the process, the blockchain technology keeps track of how much material has entered and exited the stage, with the leftovers being utilised in Vaishali’s signature cording, engineered deconstruction and texturing techniques, which allows the designer to expand her creativity and create seemingly improbable silhouettes that are the mainstay of this collection of Autumn-Winter garments.

The continued partnership with VIBRAM has also brought a winter collection of sustainable products. VIBRAM, the Italian world leader in sole manufacturing, has made a serious commitment to sustainability. By cooperating on their project “Component – the innovative sole system by VIBRAM”, the shoes for the collection have been developed with the leftover fabrics of the prêt-à-porter collection on a 96% recycled sole. Furthermore, the easiness of detaching the upper part of the shoe and creating your new one with old clothes really takes circularity to a deeper level. The inception of the partnership was during the Paris Haute Couture Week and has been continuing to flourish.

Employing her unique flair for effortlessly blending traditional weaves and techniques with dramatic silhouettes, Vaishali’s Srauta collection, amongst other fabrics, extensively explores the use of hand-woven Merino wool from Bengal, and Pashmina from Ladhak, both of which will keep the wearer warm in colder seasons and surprising cool in the warmer months.

Known widely as ‘wearable art”, the collection is comprised of jewel tones such as deep aquamarines, ruby reds, shimmering amethysts, pearly whites, jade greens, and slate greys, all of which are very well suited to the Autumn-Winter season. The garments all feature the designer’s researched approach to blends and weaving and a deeply creative process along the seamless journey of Vaishali’s self-expression.

The Vaishali S. brand was born out of designer Vaishali’s deep-seated love for classic Indian weaves and textiles. Working with authentic hand-woven fabric and perennially telling a culturally rich tale about India’s rich textile heritage, the brand has endeavoured to celebrate Indian handloom since its inception in 2001. As a strong believer of the “ESG” stamp, Vaishali S. is dedicated to zero waste and circularity with tangible social impact across several states in the country and redistribution across the whole chain of the ecosystem. Additionally, Vaishali is the winner of many prestigious awards, including the Elle Decor International Design Award (EDIDA) for fabric design (in 2018), the Designer of the Year (International Fame) by India Fashion Awards (in 2021), amongst others.

No stranger to the international stage, Vaishali has previously shown at Paris Haute Couture Week, New York Fashion Week and her collections are stocked at high-end boutiques in both London and Milan.
