Karting SuperSeries Debuts Big in MumbaiThe City of Dreams lived up to its name for the aspiring motorsport drivers taking part in the Karting SuperSeries where six of them from the Mumbai round are a step closer to bagging a sponsored drive in the 2023 National Karting Championship.

Round 4 in Mumbai of the Karting SuperSeries marked the beginning of the second half of the event. It was conducted in the Ajmera IndiKarting track located in Chembur. Mumbai saw the second highest registrations (to date) after Bangalore with a whooping 172 participants revved up to showcase their racing talents.

Ajmera IndiKarting is a fast-flowing circuit with several hairpins. Turns 1 and 2 are the hotspots for overtaking and close wheel-to-wheel action. Turn 1 is a quick and bumpy corner that tests the driver’s control of the kart and turn 2 is a heavy-braking zone that every driver wants to take advantage of.

The format of the weekend in every round is:

  • On Saturday –

A driver is allocated a time of ten minutes on track. It is a practice cum qualifying session, five minutes each.

The fastest qualifying laps set by the Top 36 would move on to the second day of racing.

  • On Sunday –

The Top 36 qualifiers are divided into batches of four, with nine in each batch, where they race for eight laps in the Heats. The first five finishers from each Heat take part in the Semi-Finals, where again they are divided into two batches (ten each).

The Finals consist of the Top 5 drivers from both the Semi-Finals where they race for 12 laps. Finally, the Top 6 finishers qualify for the Grande Finale that will be held in Hyderabad on 4th June 2023.

Hoshmand Elavia won the Mobil 1 Powered Driver of the Weekend for his P3 qualifying and making it into the Top 10 where he finished P9.

The Karting SuperSeries moves to the city of Delhi for the fifth round on 27th-28th May 2023 in Kartomania – Go Karting.
