Captivating and Heartfelt: Gopinath Muthukad’s Illusion to Inspiration Mesmerises Kozhikode
Kozhikode, Kerala, August 11, 2025: Renowned magician, motivational speaker, and humanitarian Gopinath Muthukad returned to the stage after four years in Kozhikode on Saturday with a special presentation of his acclaimed ‘Illusion to Inspiration’ show. Held at Providence College, the event was a spellbinding fusion of world-class illusions, personal storytelling, and powerful messages of hope, leaving the audience both enthralled and deeply moved. Muthukad has bid farewell to professional magic four years ago.
Kozhikode holds a special place in Muthukad’s life. It was here that his father, Kunjunni Nair, encouraged him to set aside law school and follow his passion for magic — a decision that would see him rise to become one of India’s most recognised illusionists. The evening began with his mother, Devaki Amma, lighting the ceremonial lamp, adding a warm, nostalgic touch to a night already brimming with emotion.
The performance unfolded as a living narrative, each illusion woven with anecdotes of perseverance, transformation, and purpose. Muthukad’s signature style — combining breathtaking sleight of hand with soul-stirring stories — held the audience captive from start to finish. Moments of laughter, wonder, and reflection flowed seamlessly, creating an atmosphere that was as intimate as it was spectacular.
The emotional high point of the night came when Muthukad spoke of his vision for the International Institute for People with Disabilities (IIPD) in Kasaragod. The proposed centre aims to provide world-class facilities for training, showcasing, and empowering differently-abled individuals through art-based programmes. “The magic that matters most,” he said, “is the one that changes lives.”
Legendary magician P.C. Sorcar Jr., who inaugurated the event, lauded Muthukad’s journey as “a masterclass in using art as a tool for transformation.” Also in attendance were Rajya Sabha MP P.V. Abdul Wahab, MLA Thottathil Raveendran, IPS officer Rajpal Meena, Mathrubhumi Managing Editor P.V. Chandran, and the Bishop of Thamarassery Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, the Bishop of Kozhikode Dr. Varghese Chakkalakal.
As the final act concluded, the hall resounded with applause, celebrating not only the artistry on display but the larger mission it served. For Kozhikode, the night was a reminder that true magic lies not only in illusions, but in the ability to inspire change.
