IITM Pravartak launches second cohort of Applied Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning programme to accelerate industry adoption

Chennai, Jan 12:  IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation-the Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Madras-has opened admissions for the second batch of the Advanced Certificate in Applied Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning. Designed for professionals who want to lead with data and build production-grade AI solutions, the programme develops core competence in applied AI while strengthening the judgement required to translate models into measurable outcomes.

Deep learning is moving rapidly from experimentation to everyday deployment, reshaping how organisations make decisions and execute at speed. As compute and cloud ecosystems mature and model architectures become more capable, enterprises increasingly use AI to forecast demand, personalise experiences, detect anomalies, automate quality checks and optimise operations across retail, BFSI, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing and government sectors, with growing expectations of reliability, security and scalability in production.

Delivered as a seven-month, LIVE online programme in collaboration with TimesPro, the certificate equips learners to build strong foundations in machine learning and deep learning, apply statistical methods, and manipulate and analyse data using Python. Learners gain practical exposure to industry-standard tools such as TensorFlow and PyTorch. At the same time, the curriculum also introduces MLOps and cybersecurity essentials through hands-on instruction and case-based learning—preparing participants to handle real-world data.

Industry momentum reinforces the urgency for structured capability-building. McKinsey’s latest State of AI survey reports that 88% of respondents use AI regularly in at least one business function, up from 78% the previous year. Separately, a UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report projects the global AI market will rise from USD 189 billion in 2023 to USD 4.8 trillion by 2033, a 25-fold increase in a decade. In India, Fortune Business Insights projects the AI market will grow from USD 13.05 billion in 2025 to USD 130.63 billion by 2032, reflecting a 39.00% CAGR over the period

Speaking on the announcement, Dr. Suchitra Veeravalli, Consultant, IITM Pravartak, said, “Applied AI now demands engineers who can move from models to measurable value. Through this Advanced Certificate, IITM Pravartak connects IIT Madras’ research strengths with hands-on training in machine learning, deep learning and MLOps. Learners will build and validate solutions using Python, TensorFlow and PyTorch, while sharpening responsible and secure AI practices for industry use, at scale with reliability.”

Sridhar Nagarajachar, Business Head, TimesPro, noted, “This programme suits professionals who want to translate AI theory into working solutions. The LIVE format enables consistent practice, guided assignments and feedback loops, so learners build confidence across the model lifecycle—from data preparation to training, testing and deployment readiness. With IITM Pravartak, we’re enabling participants to develop practical capability in deep learning and machine learning, aligned to roles employers hire for today.”

On completion, learners can explore opportunities across industries in roles such as Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Data Analyst, AI/ML Research Scientist, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Engineer, Deep Learning Engineer, and Quantitative Analyst, among others. The inaugural cohort attracted learners from varied sectors—including automotive, banking and mortgage, computer software, customer service, education, healthcare and R&D—with senior profiles such as CTOs, VPs, directors, senior solution architects, technical leads, project leads and general managers.

The programme welcomes graduates and postgraduates in engineering, mathematics or computational sciences, as well as professionals looking to transition into AI-focused roles or future-proof their careers with domain-aligned analytical capability.

The programme follows a Direct-to-Digital (D2D) mode with interactive online sessions led by IIT Madras faculty and experienced industry practitioners, supported by webinars, assignments and a campus immersion at IIT Madras Research Park. Successful participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from IITM Pravartak, Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Madras.
