Heritage Commission and Katakura Foundation Unite to Preserve Desert Culture

Riyadh, Feb 13th, 2025 – In a significant move to enhance cultural preservation efforts, the Saudi Heritage Commission, led by CEO Dr. Jasir Alherbish, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Motoko Katakura Foundation for Desert Culture, represented by Chairperson Hiroshi Nawata.

This MoU establishes a collaborative framework focused on key areas of mutual interest:

1- Research and Heritage Studies: Joint initiatives in the research and exploration of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
2- Seminars and Knowledge Sharing: Organizing collaborative seminars to highlight the Foundation’s contributions to desert culture preservation within Saudi Arabia.
3- Community Engagement: Leveraging the Foundation’s expertise to actively involve local communities in research and documentation efforts.

In his remarks on this significant partnership, Dr. Alherbish stated, “This collaboration marks a pivotal step in our commitment to preserving Saudi Arabia’s unique cultural landscape. By partnering with the Motoko Katakura Foundation, we are fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of our desert heritage, ensuring it is preserved for future generations.”

This partnership marks a significant milestone towards safeguarding and advancing the vast cultural heritage of the Saudi desert, while fostering collaboration and innovation in cultural heritage sector.
