Workers face health risks in the world’s most polluted city

India is amongst the most polluted countries. The construction works, burning fields, and constant moving vehicles are the reasons. Every person residing in the country pays for working in this madness. The Bhiwadi city in Rajasthan is the most polluted in the world. Bhiwadi, an industrial hub, has air quality and this was concluded post conducting the surveys. The city’s air is 20 times more polluted than the World Health Organisation’s recommendation. The maximum level of tiny airborne particles is considered PM 2.5. The degraded quality of air penetrates deep into the lungs and cardiovascular system.

As per doctors, the polluted or degraded air causes health problems related to lung cancer, asthma, and many other problems that cause irregular heartbeats, chest pain, palpitation, and tightness.

The industrial area has polluted air accumulated in the area. Even if nutritious food is consumed, the negative impact on health continues due to degraded air. Dozen of outdoor workers such as sweepers, construction labourers, and street vendors experience the problem but are not aware of the air pollution issues. Due to the air pollution problems, the workers continue to wear masks. Though this helps to reduce the impact, the consequences continue to affect health.

Ashwin Bhadri, CEO, Equinox Labs says, “Indoor Air Quality affects the health of the people. The conditions can be improved by implementing a few measures. The degraded air quality causes a negative impact in the long run. The measures are already implemented, yet the impact or the effects that can be experienced are limited.”

Equinox Labs is a leading FSSAI Approved and NABL Accredited Food, Water, and Air Testing Lab with 16+ years of experience. With a PAN-India presence, they are also Industry Leaders in Food Safety Auditing and FoSTaC Training.

He added, “When it comes to Indoor Air Quality, it causes a negative impact on overall health. Air pollution not only impacts health but negatively affects the environment. The overall impact can be well maintained by following certain measures, yet the government needs to ensure about the measures taken into consideration to improve the conditions.”
